When my dad was hooking his trailer to my truck he shorted something out and now only the brake and the turn signals work and no running lights. We checked that it isn't the trailer it is definately a problem with my truck. We hooked it to his truck and all the lights work? Any help is appreciated. Maybe a relay? I checked the owners manual but found nothing. HELP ME PLEASE!!!! :crying: :sweating: :crying:

Its much more likely a fuse than a relay. Do all the lights on the truck work? If so it might have separate fuses for trailer lights but I'm not sure. Wish I could help more.

All the lights on the truck work, This is very confusing. I checked the fuse box but I found nothing related to trailer running lights. I saw on the net you get two relays with the towing hitch if bought without the towing package. I'm thinking one must have been damaged. HELP ME

The fuse for those lights is not in the fuse box at the right of the dash. It is in a box under the hood at the rear on the drivers side. I think it is a 10 amp fuse.
Look at attached drawings.

I should have known Nissan was clever enough to fuse the trailer light circuit separately if they had the relay box integrated already too! :) I love this truck more all the time.

I went through this one once myself. Had a tire cap on the road rip my trailer wires out and it shorted. Had no ideal there was a box under the hood. Just could not figure out why I couldn't get my lights back on. But ofcourse CT steered me in the right direction!!!

I had the same problem. I tow my boat with a Jeep Grand Cherrokee (5.9). I pluged in the titan and blew the fuses. After changing them I noticed on the plug cover is the wire code that Nissan uses. It is not standard wiring. I made an adapter so I can tow anything with the large light plug and not worry about fuses. I did not want to cut/splice the factory harness. Cost 18.00 for the female 7 pin @ wal-mart and 8.00 for the male plug. I had trailer lighting wire left over from changing to LED lights for the boat (0.00) 10 minutes is all it took and no problems with lights for anyhing I tow. This is what I used. Hope someone can use this info.

I joined the club just today when I found it looking for help with my lighting problem as well.
My Titan, a 2004 Crew Cab 2x4 DID NOT come with the trailer towing package, so I bought a class 3 receiver hitch, and a plug in harness that has both the 7 pin and the common 4 pin connector for various types of trailers--well I had and still have the same problem even after carefully reading this post-I went and checked for this 10amp fuse found it in its correct position checked it to make sure it was good and still have NO power going to the end of the factory plug on the truck for the running lights-I have signals, brakes and hazzard lights--any other suggestions?? Thanks!! & GREAT SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an 04 SE I installed my hitch as well. I used a test light grounded to the frame. While I had my wife turn on lights turn signales and hit brakes. I figured out wich wire was wich. I then cut and spliced the plug I needed for my camper Have towed the thing about 6,000 miles and have had 0 problems.

I wish I wrote down what colors did what but I did not sorry.

I only wires for lights no power brakes on camper.

Maybe they put the relays in my truck before I bought it?

I also purchased aftermarket hitch. My problem came when i rented a U-Haul trailer. In order to get the running lights for the 4-pin you have to tap into the lic. plate wire. I'm not big on jerry-riggin' stuff. But i was in the process of moving and didn't have the time to do it right. The fix was quick and the black tape is still doing its job. So i guess overall i saved lots of money on the hitch plus i didn't have to buy the relay everyone talks about.

I have been lurking for about 2 months, I bought my titan used 3 months ago. It had an aftermarket hitch already installed. I am blow the fuse everytime I tow my trailer and turn on the park lights. What is this relay? What do I need to ask for when I go to the dealer? My build date was 09/04 SE KC 4x4.

Hey guys, I just received a letter from Nissan about a voluntary recall and it has to do with the wiring harness on the tow package and it shorting out. You may want to call your local dealer and ask them about it.

If your truck did not come with hitch from the factory you have to get two relays from Nissan. They go in a black box under hood, passenger side, marked trailer tow 1 & trailer tow 2.

Nissan currently has a recall for replacement of the bcm wiring that will probably help your situation. I recently received the recall letter and had the work done at Napelton Nissan. It takes about an hour to complete.

Its a relay, you have to go to your nissan dealership and order the relay. Everything is going to work on the trailer except for when you put on your lights and the trailer lights dont turn on. Go to ur dealership and buy a relay

Like a few have already posted, I too had an aftermarket hitch put on my Titan. The hitch place was aware of the issues w/ Titan's lights so he told me before the install that I would need to go to the dealership and get these 2 RELAYS: Tow 1 and Tow 2, they go in a relay box under hood on passenger side.

I had the same problem on an 07 Titan without the tow package. I had to go buy the relays from the dealership. I found out that on an 07 Titan there are 3 relays that are needed for trailer lights. Problem is now resolved thanks to reading the forum. This was more help than the service manager at the dealership.

I have no left turn/brake light on the trailer but the truck side is good.
Dealer says the BCM needs to be changed - huge bucks!!
Dealer also says tapping into the truck turn/brake light wire to steal a signal for the trailer will cause the BCM to sense a current increase and it will "report me to the authorities or blow up"
Any words of wisdom on this - is there a fuse I missed?
Thanks
