: Service Engine Light Soon!!! What??
pinoytitan 06-03-2007, 07:46 PM Ok, today as i was leaving my sisters house i noticed the "service engine light" lit up a few mins after i left. Before i arrived at my sisters house that light was off. I do not notice a change in the engine, but what i have noticed is that my truck is running a little high on rpms. Or, is that just my inexperienced mine. I do not know what is wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong? I hate bringing it into the nissan dealership, cuz of the high price they charge people. Its the first time that light came up and I VERY worried.
anyone know what to do?
PuvMan 06-03-2007, 10:47 PM if the light went off, dont worry about it
over the winter my light was on for about a week, and i didnt have time to get it scanned. It went off on its own, and the truck has been fine.
I did try to scan for it sometime after the light went off, but the computer doesnt save the trouble code...
If it comes back on, you can always goto a pep boys, autozone, etc and they will scan the trouble code for you. Post up the code here, and there are many people who have the manuals and can tell you what the code means.
pinoytitan 06-04-2007, 03:29 PM well went down to pep boys and checked it. it was becuase i did not tighten my gas cap. the code is p0442. I feel a whole lot better...:D

I had this happen before on a car I previously owned. It scarred the crap outta me at first because the car was brand new. When I realized it was my error after looking through my manual I felt like a dumbass.
Cars / Trucks these days are way, way too smart! Glad it was nothing serious!!
KING TITAN 06-05-2007, 11:04 PM Mine does that alot. Had it checked 3 times and itwas from the gas cap not sealing.

It will go away after a few ignition cycles.

Maintenance light and SES (CEL) are two different things. The maintenance light can be turn off, the process is usually a little easier. What kind of vehicle does she have?
pinoytitan 06-06-2007, 03:44 PM an 07 toyota yaris.
baseballfanz 06-06-2007, 03:54 PM Try this
Make sure your trip computer is in the "Trip A" mode. Turn the key to off, hold the trip reset button down as you turn the ignition to on. Watch the odometer, you will see 5 or 6 flashing bars that will disapear one by one. After all are gone, it will flash all 0's, then go back to your mileage. That's it, you're reset. Remember, don't let go of the odometer reset button until everything is all done.
pinoytitan 06-06-2007, 04:21 PM sweet. Thanks, that was really bothering my wife. How did you find out how to do it?

Mychael101 06-07-2007, 04:19 AM I get the gas cap code all the time.
baseballfanz 06-07-2007, 11:34 AM I get the gas cap code all the time.
That code is for evap gross leak, yes most of the time it's the gas cap not sealed properly but it could be other things causing it.
pinoytitan 06-07-2007, 03:02 PM so ill be losing gas?
KINGMADE 06-07-2007, 03:12 PM fumes atleast... gas evaporates like most liquid.
pinoytitan 06-07-2007, 04:19 PM So thats why i lost a 1/4 tank in like an hour...
Mychael101 06-19-2007, 06:59 AM That code is for evap gross leak, yes most of the time it's the gas cap not sealed properly but it could be other things causing it.Wonder what else could cause it. If it get too troublesome I'll just put it back to stock, sell my performance parts, and get me a TBSS. I don't need a 7/8 passenger vehicle. A midsize SUV with a vette engine for under $30 grand with AWD is pretty tempting.
Conkatruck 07-02-2007, 08:12 AM the only time i've seen the "service engine" light was when i was due for the 30,000 mile sscheduled maintenance. went on at 30,012 and turned itself off at 30,040. truck was fine so i ignored it, figured it was nissan's way of tricking me into paying for all the $H!T (approx $800) the dealership told me i needed done as "preventative".
