Hi Ron, tell me a little more about your idle problems. Like, was there a problem before you installed the intake and or exhaust?

Well Thats the problem is i dont recall if i noticed it before or after..im fairly sure it was before though.

The idle after warming up truck in Park is about 600rpm which seems a bit low to begin with I figure it should be about 700rpms or so. but when in Drive like at stop lights after a period of about 30seconds to 1 minute the idle will feel like its struggling and drop to like 450 or so then immediately jump right back up to 600. You cant really time when its gonna happen but you can feel it coming from the vibration of the engine.

Let me know if theres someting I have overlooked. Thanks

Ron

600rpm is right within specs for idle while in park, which of course will be a little lower if you're sitting there in Drive with the brake on, so you're fine there.

As far as the drop goes after a few seconds, it sounds like it's trying to compensate for a leak in the intake somewhere. Have you checked to see if there are any codes stored? That would be the first place to start, if none exist we can go from there. There's a how to on checking the codes, let me know what you find out.

JetTech,

Would you still store codes even if you do not get the CEL or SES light?

Rdawg06,

Here is a link for an Idle learning procedure that may help your problem...

Im not getting any error lights if thats what you meant? no ses light or anything..just the idle prob

actually i just went back out and took it apart and checked again and that thing is tight as possible and cant figure out where air could be leaking in...is there some kind of sealant i should have used anywhere..none came with kit and nonting about sealant was meantioned in instructions...

kinda lost on where air is leaking ..could there be something else causing that prob?

Ron,

There is no sealant except for the two little o-rings Volant supplies.

By any chance is the rpm dropping when the A/C compressor kicks on?

How can I tell if the compressor is kicking in?

You should be able to hear it kinda like a click. did you try that idle learning procedure yet?

rdawg06

Yeah Tried that with stop watch and not hearing any improvements..

as fas as the compressor I dont hear anything clicking but that could be because the banks exhaust and how loud it is.

If it in the compressor would it continually do this over and over? and is there a remedy for that incase its that...?

Try running with the A/C turned off and see if your RPM's stabilize

The AC is off the whole time, i havent run with AC on duringthis time..so if AC isnt on then thats not the prob correct?

TheGoose

correct... however when I meant off I also meant by shutting off the fan... btw.. I sent you another pm.

Rdawg, which K&N system did you install? I am running the 77-series, and I have not experienced the surging that you have noticed. You said that you double-checked all of the connections; if you installed the 77-series, you may want to ensure that the rubber elbow that fastens to the throttle body isn't defective (has a crack or tear in it), and also that the rubber coupling located just before the heat shield flange is also defect-free. If those are okay, check to ensure that you didn't install the MAF backwards (I think that if reversed, the screw holes will still line up on the intake tube). If that's okay, then make sure that all of the HVAC controls are turned off. If you have the selector set to the defrost position, that will cause the A/C to cycle, which will cause you to see the surge in RPMs. If all of that is cool, then I'd let the dealer check it out. You may have a faulty throttle position sensor or something similiar.
