: how often to bring for service?
evre1buggin 07-01-2007, 06:53 PM i have had the titan now for 2 years and 3 months...i have been bringing it to the dealer for its regular scheduled maintenance but now it seems that they are suggesting more and more work to be done every time.. i have 23000 miles on it and use it to drive to the train station 2 miles away m-f and then regular travel on weekend.... dealer says im due for 24 month service or 30,000 miles... they say its $750 (which i think is crazy). it includes replacing alot of things and also inspecting alot as well...it lists everyting in a booklet that they gave me... is it really time for this maintenance and should i bring it somewhere else rather than the dealer.... any info much appreciated ...
float_test 07-01-2007, 07:04 PM I dont have my manuel in front of me but i cant see paying that kind of money. I had a full 16qt tranny flush last month (24000 miles) and that cost me 200 which is about right but checking fluids etc shouldnt be that much unless something is broke. Id try another dealer, and any shop can change your oil and check fluids for 30 to $50 my guess.
Conkatruck 07-02-2007, 08:18 AM my "new" dealership tried to gouge me for approx $800 around 30,000 miles. they even tried to sell me on replacing the in-cabin filters, telling me mine were in bad shape. here's the catch... my truck didn't even have the filters in it, as i had removed them the day before to clean them and hadn't put them back in yet. who knows where they found those decaying ones they showed me and tried to pass off as mine?
PuvMan 07-02-2007, 10:38 AM i'd follow the mileage for service, not months.
I'll take my titan to the dealer for service at 30k, and that too, i'll only have them do what i dont feel comfortable doing at home (tranny flush, maybe coolant flush, brake fluid, etc).
07 Nissan Titan 07-03-2007, 09:34 PM $600 is what they wanna charge here for the 30K service... $250 for the 15K service...
KING TITAN 07-05-2007, 08:52 PM 30,000 is normal warranty/service work work. Keep your warranty valid!
evre1buggin 07-10-2007, 07:16 PM thanks for all your help... im going to try to do most of the work myself and then just have them do the rest at 30,000... im gonna ask them if they like ripping people off when i go there.... ill let you know the response... thanks again...

thats what Im doing. My Trucks at 4000 miles right now and I did the first oil change and checked everything else just like they would do if I had brought it in. I will take my truck in on the major services, but thats not until 15,000, 30k and so on.
Gyrate 07-11-2007, 04:20 AM My truck has never been back at the dealership for service except for a few tire sensors and the camber bolts.
The only thing i have to bring it in for is the transmission fluid down the road
shailey 07-11-2007, 07:10 AM They cannot deny you warranty if you are changing your oil regularly. If there are maintenance records, you are fine.
I overmaintain my truck and did the coolant and tranny change every 30k. Now tranny flushes are about $170 here and radiator flushes are $75.00. So yes, $750 is ridiculous. But you are better off having the dealership do your tranny flush. That way if the wrong stuff is used or they mess up, it will be on them for the $3400 transmission.

Exactly, these days with the trucks as complicated as they are, your better off taking it to the dealer instead of some little shop because, chances are, the dealer techs are more familiar with your truck(I've heard horror stories of seriously messed up trucks all in the name of saving money somewhere else). As far as the maintenance, use your own judgement, I did my own 15k service cause, the only real work you'll get for $279 is the oil change, tire rotation, and door hinge lubrication, the rest of the list consists of "replace if needed" observations from your tech. I'm still working on how to execute the 30k maintenance. I don't wanna pay $500 - $800 for my 30k maintenance.

just curious, where in NY are you from? What dealer is trying to beat you up like that? Also, We're planning a little shindig @ Robert Moses in late August if you're interested! See the North-East section of this site for more info.

NO WAY!!! Oh, man...I would have had a field day if they showed me "my" in-cabin filters and I had just taken them out the day before! Dealers are thieves and crooks! (some of them are not though)
