My truck is an offroad truck, with a leveling kit and bfg all terrain tires. I took off the running boards to increase breakover angle, and it surprisingly help a lot. Plus it makes the truck look higher

This pic was taken in scottsdale, AZ after on of the wettest winters ever. Made for lots of great mud! Nice change from the usually dry terrain out here.

I usually drive around puddles that the lawn sprinlers make. I hate any dirt on my truck. Its not made to get dirty

i respect you having a street truck (both of witch you did a very nice job with), but my Titan is a truck, it wants to get dirty and i can't to much to stop it.

p.s. YOU're my hero, 2 titans...i love it.

Hey Mav, That water level is AWEFULLY Close to the Intake! You NEED a Snorkel!!

Mavryck
06-12-2005, 09:22 AM
Nah, the intake was about 10 to 12 inches above the waterline. However I'm still cleaning the engine compartment from all the mud that was spreyed up by the fan

I took my 2004 SE King Cab 2WD off road with a bunch of 4x4 guys...I made it almost all the way through the trail until we got to a hill where the trail turned right near the top off the hill. The trail was set into the hill so we had about 3 foot dirt burms on either side of the hill and because i had 2wd i did what i had been doing all day long, which was just floor it up the hill and try and slide the read end around the corner. Only it didnt slide, all four tires got traction and the truck turned right into the burm causing some nice sized dents onder the rocker panels.

So...$1300 in body work later its gonna go 8" in the air with 35" tires before it goes back out again.

I have pics of the aftermath on my phone so as soon as i get them into the computer ill post em up if youd like, and of course pics after its in the air.

Anyone have the 8" CST kit and have any reviews on it? most people here have the 6" from what ive seen. Also thinkin about goin with the 17x8 Robby Gordon wheels with the black bead locks.

Sounds like you need a "Paultinator"!!!
...or, maybe an off-road shield!

i always liked trail climbing and water forging more than mud! those mudding pics i showed were part of the trail. it took forever to get rid of the smell. hot mud in the brakes smells like burning hairspray.

Hello All!!

I am new to this forum and it's awesome! From looking and reading hundreds of posts... killer people in here!

I have a late '04 Titan, really low miles and it's pimp'd! Leather, Nav system, DVD (the shut the kids up in the back) sunroof and everything you can think of.

My question is, it has the VDC, Tow Package, but from what I can tell, doesn't have the rear locker. I got it with every single option available... shouldn't that be on there? I called the local Nissan dealer in N. Ca and asked them if I should have the locker and they told me the VDC was better. What's more confusing is, I have the off-road package, shocks, tires, skid plates and all that stuff....

Does anyone have any information on what VDC does, how it makes the 4x4 act differently and if I'm going to get it stuck up to the windows on the first mud puddle I hit?

Thanks for all the info!

THe rear locker comes with the offroad package...BUT it was not avalible for the very first 04 trucks. So do you have the OR package and if so you might have one of the very early titans that the locker was not on. As for the VDC its vehicle dynamic control (?) or something like that. Its a traction/stability control system. Its gonna try to limit your power if your tires start to slip. I dont have it on my truck so im not sure how it responds. try offroading with it on, then turn it off and see what you like. The rear locker is going to give you better traction for crawling over the VDC

I've got an early '04 4x2 w/OR and VDC.
It's great for traction control on the streets, but I'm not sure about mud.
I Do take mine off road, and I have traversed a few steep loose dirt hills with minimal slippage.

Unfortuneately, the only way you're gonna know is, "If at First you don't succeed, don't try it THAT way again!!" lol

I had an 04 Titan w/o locker or vdc and never had any problems in mud. I now have an 05 Armada (then all have VDC) and with the VDC/TRAC on its usless in the mud. Once I turn them off, I can go anywhere. I had an 04 Toyota Tacoma with their stability/traction controls systems, and you couldnt turn them off! I hated that part of that truck. It was stuck in 2" of snow. The traction control would kill all power. My 300ZX would do better in the snow than that Tacoma did!!!
