Great... it would be nice to meet up and do some trails. The area has the western xterra 4x4x club and they do some wheeling, we could do the same. My 07 just rolled over 10k its time to get her dirty and buff out some scratches....smallones i hope. Its almost fall a great time to get off the highway. Let me know.

I'll let you know that I've been looking for places to offroad my truck more often. I too like trails that are wide enough for our trail whales. I love to get my truck muddy, but I want my paint and body to stay intact.

Im not originally from Pittsburgh but have been living here since 99. I dont know about the rest of you but Id love to go off roading somewhere. Ive heard of an old mine road in Connellsville, and some place down in Fayette county called the blue lagoon, or blue something, not sure of the name. Anyone know of these places?

If nothing else we should just meet and greet some place, have a cold beer, and talk about our trucks.

Stay focused and lets make a plan.

September and Labor day is just around the corner. Let me suggest that we try and meet up that weekend if everyone is going to be in town?
I will contact the local Xterra club and see if they can tell us where to go off roading. Lets get some input for a meeting place and drink a few cold ones.

Here is a site map I picked up from the western Pa Xterra club site. Anyone know of this trail or been on it?

I asked a member on the Xterra site to give me some places to run.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1st+st+and+McCormick+Ave,+Casparis,+Connellsvill e,+PA&sll=39.989139,-79.586678&sspn=0.00753,0.021501&ie=UTF8&ll=39.989714,-79.587536&spn=0.00753,0.021501&z=16&om=1

I think the trail goes up the Casparis Run Road as shown on the map.

Ok we will plan something for after labor day in September. I talked toa guy from the western pa Xterra club who recommended Hawkins Hallow. He said its not very brushy so no scratches.... said we can google the name and find out where it is. We have time to plan so maybe some other 4x4 Titans will join in from our area. sounds like fun.

I do not know too many spots to take our trucks... We used to be able to get in the pipe line out in west deer but it is hard enough to get my quad back there now, I do know there is an ATVnpark up in slippery rock and on Saturdays they have mud bogs and that good stuff... even if no one wanted to go threw a bog we can go watch mud fly and drink beer.

this is their web site....

Found this as i was lookin its called Creek Falls

From Pittsburg, take I-76 southeast to Exit 8 then RT 119 south then RT 819 southwest into Scottdale. In Scottdale, take SR 3002 west about 1 mile then go left on Creek Rd.. Follow Creek Rd. about 3 miles to Chaintown. At the bridge in Chaintown, there begins an unmarked gravel road that goes west along Jacobs Creek. (NOTE: there is no TOWN to Chaintown. The bridge is a railroad bridge on a secluded country road. Don't expect any stores or a post office). This road gets very rough and is passable only to off road vehicles. At one point the road fords the stream. You can park and walk up the road or you can follow the railroad tracks. The swimming hole is about 300 yards downstream after the tracks cross the stream the second time.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=decimal&latitude=40.10722&longitude=-79.67806 Also some info on Hawkins Hallow
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=decimal&latitude=39.9871&longitude=-79.4724

Its a start. These look like swimming holes but the first one sounds interesting. What do you think?

Lets shoot for the 15th a Saturday.

hey choppaboye are there any good places near the ohio pa line... I know you got the scoope out there.

Most of the places I go right now, my jeep can barely fit through. the only exception is Wellsville(yellow creek). theres plenty to do there!!! Illl be there the with my club on the 26th of August. Im sure if anyone want to tag along youre welcome to. theres bypasses for most of the hard stuff. If its your first time there, you really need to be there with someone who has been there a few times. Its huge and you can get lost easy.

Wellsville, isn't there a glue factory there or something? A few of my friends have gone riding quads there before. The place they went became some type of "sportsmen's club" or something of that nature with reserved camping spots and such. Non-"members" had to pay a tad bit extra to go there for the weekend or something? I've never been there, so I'm not sure of the specifics, but that was what I got out of it. They did say there was a ton of riding out there, some crazy hillclimbs, and big pond or creek to swim in I think??

sleazymatt

choppaboye
08-14-2007, 08:45 AM
Not sure about the glue factory thing, I thought the factory close to the river was a cement plant. but yes there is an entry fee.....if the guy is around. its kinda weird that way. I think the land is county owned but theres only a couple ways to get in, so you pay them. there are campgrounds. miles of powerlines and hillclimbs. during holidays theres easily over 1000 vehicles there. Mostly cycles, quads, rail buggys, jeeps, truggys, trucks

well that is my b-day and i work nights that weekend... beat! my buddies went there 3 weeks ago on there quads, I just fixed mine last week so i didnt go, but they said its awsome, I want to go camping and riding there for a weekend. and then there is a special kind of bar i think called kamakazi close by that if u go before 9 pm...... well i cant discuss it on a family forum but its fun!

I suggested the 15th of September, but i really dont care what day it is just that its a Saturday. Ive done some google earth shots of Conellsville, and Indian Creek. The Xterra club said WE could do Conellsville fairly easily without lots of underbrush across the trail. Hickory Hollow looks to be off route 711 which runs out of conellsville so we can try either one if we meet down that way somewhere. If all goes well we can plan Wellsville in early October or whenever. I was reading about another site by Wellsville called hammondville so we have some options either way. Lets set a date, a time to meet and a place and lets just do it. My stock Titan is whinning to go out and play.

@#*damnit i tagged a honda accord this morning with my pasenger side front bumper. Broke the plastic cover and pushed hte bumper out of alignment. Now im looking for a heavy duty winch style bumper. Anyone have any ideas or know who makes them for our rigs? I hate the idea of replacing the bumper with a replacement. Its amazing what a soft 2 mile pr hour bump can do and honda just has a permanent tatoo of my tow hook.

This shouldnt keep me from running on the 22nd. Have we found a spot to meet yet?

I posted in the general forum and got a great site for Kennesaw Mountain Accessories. They have what im looking for and the price is outstanding.

See WWW.Kenmtnac.com/titan.html (http://www.Kenmtnac.com/titan.html)

And should hopefully have it here and installed by the time we meet but if not your right i wont have to worry.

Its amazing what 100 mph tape will do for your bumper. In case you dont know what 100 mph tape is, I'll explain. The eskimos of Alaska use it to hold their snowmobiles together so they can go 100 mph, better known as duct tape....:thumbsup-big:

Ok here is what i found. I suggest the mcDonalds off 119 at the Pittsburgh Street exit @10AM, as we will go south on Pittsburgh Street to the jump off point. I went some of the way up Casparis Road in 4lo and locked, found it rocky and steep in just a few places. Road is narrow but to the point I stopped I didnt have to contend with brush scrapes. It was one hour from my house in squirel hill and I went down 51 to 201 in Connellsville, about 45 miles. It should be a nice run, found the road wet, some small mud holes but a nice drive. Harder coming down than going up. See everyone next Saturday at McDonalds.

Looks fun, I hope we do not have to use the E-Locker at all. because I do not have one LOL. someone better have tow straps and a winch. LOL.... I hope there are some good flat mud holes to go blowing through.

Stang it looks like you captured some great moments, nice pics. Titanse05 hope you can buff out those scratch marks.. I bought some scratch polish by KIT and used a high speed buffer and all mine came out nicely. Let me know how it goes. You are welcome to come by my house and use the buffer, just let me know.
We will have to find a more open area next time, maybe Wellsville, Ohio after the October meet.

titanse05

I went over the entire truck with a fine cut 3M polish and my tree scrathes are still there. However, I believe that if I get a little coarser cut compound and and then do the fine cut again that it can be fixed. If I had a good buffer it would go quicker.........I have a el-cheapo buffer from walmart.

And to top it all off......nobody got a video of me going through the real mud pit?

I want to thank all you guys for coming out it was a blast. Next time we will get some wider trails and maybe some better holes. I looked over my truck and didnt get any serious scratchs. Hey I will remember to bring the high speed orbital for the meet on the 20th to remove any other big scratchs you guys have. Good pics Mike and Marc I hope everyone is able to get into mine!

Thanks, Matt. I might have to do that.

I had one dude today who said he could hit it with 1500 - 2000 grit wet sand paper! I ain't letting him touch my truck.
Another guy said he has a high speed buffer. He's gonna bring it over this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out.

That was a lot of fun though. I can't wait for the next trail ride with you guys! Maybe less trees and more mud!?!?!

The pic's look great Matt. Ill see you at the meet in October. I contacted Nemacolin woodlands today. I found out from a neighbor that they have an off road park there, lol for toyota cj's and hummers, check out their web site. I sent them an email asking for a price if we brought in some Titan owners. My neighbor said my truck wouldnt make the course...I told him we pull out stuck hummers for breakfast...we'll see. But definately we need to bring everyone together after the October meet. Marc check on Wellsville, Ohio.

I already told chopaboye that after the 20th we want to go to wellsville and we are going to work around his schedule so he can go and show us around. he also said he may be able to make it to the meet on the 20th too. and as for the scratches I am not even attempting to get any of them out. I talked to the guy that details my truck today and he said he will try and get everything out for me. only on scratch scares me, the rest should come out.... except for the ones in the black plastic... does anyone know how I can get them out? they are bad. I was under my truck with the pressure washer today in my swim trunks LOL. boy it was muddy

I hear that Nemacolin Woodlands trail is pretty tough. I parked next to an H2 at a Penn State Game last year. He had BFG M/T's and a big winch mounted on the front. I started talking to him and he said that he goes down to Nemacolin to run the course there. He said he uses the winch almost every time he goes there. He had several stickers on the back window about it too.

Here is the website: http://www.nemacolin.com/DRIVINGACADEMY

And it appears as though it's "Driving Academy", and it's not cheap: $300-$400 per vehicle!!!!

It does state this though:

Group Events/Owner Excursions
The Off-Road Driving Academy is a prime location for group off-road and corporate events. Special events can be customized to meet the needs of any group. Bring your own vehicle and have our instructors guide you through our course situated in the Laurel Highlands. You will learn how to properly use your vehicle while navigating through specific off-road conditions. Trips are also available for the experienced off-road enthusiast.

I have emailed them and asked what it would cost if we had 5 or more Titans gather at their site. I havent heard anything yet but you are right im not paying some millionaire $300 to play in his mud hole.....we shall see. Wellsville sounds great and im sure there wont be any tree sctaches there. Boy I hope we get some deep snow this winter we can have some fun then.
I use back to black by Mothers on all my black plastic. My door pillars took a direct hit but with the back to black they dont lool too bad. MY black mirrors also got a good scratching and again the back to black seemed to make them look much better. Just wipe on and wipe off grasshopper.......

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort
Off-Road Driving Academy

The Activities Team at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort believes that innovative ideas originate when groups of people play together. As Plato once said, “You can learn more about an individual during an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

Off-Road Driving Academy Duration: 2 hours

The Off-Road Driving Academy at Nemacolin Woodlands has the only courses in the country constructed solely to show off its impressive off-road capabilities. You’ll crawl up 22-inch vertical steps and inch down rocky descents. Power up 60% inclines. And see for yourself why the military chooses these vehicles for the rigors of every day use. With three instructional courses, and 20 miles of terrain situated on 600 acres with every type of obstacle imaginable-muddy ponds, logs, precarious side slopes, rock crossing, steep inclines, and vertical ledges –you are sure to have a memorable experience!

Experience “The Rock”, “The Crater” and “The Trails”.

Additional Information for Group Excursions

- The trip will begin on “The Rock”. The Rock is the crown jewel of instructional courses; this course is designed to demonstrate the capabilities and introduce you to proper driving techniques. Here, training will take place on our two-story observation deck as well as behind the wheel. Key elements may include: 60% incline, 40% side slope, vertical steps, water fording, clearance demonstrations, rock crawls and a log crossing.

- Next, the group will move onto “The Crater” portion of the program. Designed to challenge and entertain drivers of all skill levels. The Crater is a seven-acre, mile-long course encompassing several water fording ponds, multiple climbs, awkward descents, moguls and much more. The Crater picks up where The Rock left off, by using the skills you obtained and putting them to use in a larger, more elaborate off-road course with varying degrees of difficultly.
-
- Your trip will continue on “The Trails”. The Off-Road Driving Academy boasts over 600 wooded acres with about 20 miles of terrain including beginner, intermediate and advanced trails. The entire group will experience all three of these abilities. This is where all of your experience comes together, enabling you to conquer terrain once considered impassable.

- The Off-Road Driving Academy is offered 365 days a year. Comfortable clothing and outdoor footwear are recommended, as some time outside the vehicle should be expected.
- All vehicles are operated at speeds of 5mph or less.
