Hi All,

I have some plastic chrome plated addons on my truck from one of our sponsers.. mirror covers, handles. fog light inserts.
I wash and wax my truck regularly. I also wax the chrome pieces. However I have these (what looks like rust) spots on the handles and mirror covers. it was so bad on the fog light inserts I had to remove them. its not everywhere on them just mostly where water sits if it rains. My question is: should I be treating these surfaces with something other than wax? I am using a carnuba wax (Meguires) on them right now. it takes quite a bit of rubbing and the spots will go away only to come back in a few days. I dont want to hurt the plating on the surfaces.

any help?
thanks
Mike

TexasGiant is the man to ask about this. Someone else probably has an answer also. Pm if you don't get the info you're looking for.

Try some Mother's Chrome polisher. I use them on all my chrome including add on parts and work great.

thanks BBF, Ill try that. I wanted to try a chrome polish but was afraid it would be too harsh for the plastic. Jason Burtman thinks it may be a residue from acid rain. I have also noticed I have the same rust looking spots on my license plate light covers.
Hmmmmm.
