: A little news
I found out this morning at work they are making cut backs. So far I still have my job where I've been working for the last 12 yrs. But my hours are getting longer the pay is not increasing and my start time is changing as well. I will be on here as much as possible but with the longer hours I will be in here less. At least I still have a job though. One guy came in to work yesterday and they told him to go home. I got news for you if I ever have to drive all the way to work and get told to go home I will be making some rearrangements at work. I am going to start looking around for a new job but after 12 years in Trucking Industry I am ready for a change. I have been a manager for the last 4 years before that a supervisor for 5 years. If you have any job hunting tips I could use them I have been at the same place since I got out of High School. I dread searching for something new.

firecracker 11-02-2004, 09:45 PM :x Man, Josh, I HATE to hear that!! THere's almost always some kind of talk around my work about "layoffs" and such....So far, {knock on wood!}, I'm pretty safe being the QC.
Good luck, and keep your head UP!
k9mrussell 11-08-2004, 09:42 PM Hey Josh,
Just trying to catch up on the board here and saw your post. Sorry to hear about the instability at work. Any further developments? If you are still looking for a new job, you might want to try Monster.com.
Thanks yeh I have been looking at monster.com nightly from work. Hoping that someone in MIS will say something so I can go off on the manager. LOL
BiXLL 11-09-2004, 05:43 PM WOW Josh! I knew you were having some problems at work, but I had no idea it was this bad! So sorry to hear this news. Not much I know to say except keep your head up, and I wish you the best of luck in what ever you decide to do!
I had it out with the boss today. I mean really had it out. I walked off the job this morning then an hour later the boss calls and asks if everything was ok. Long story short I explained it wasn't in my best language and manners(of course....NOOOOTTTT) anyway he says he will somehow make things right and even out the work load. Doesn't want me to leave. The thing that was the kicker was today is my wife's birthday and I wanted to take her out this evening for dinner. Well I asked that I could get off work after about 10 hours instead of 12 or 13 like I been workin. Needless to say it wasn't happening so I walked off the job this morning. I was very upset. After all was said and done the boss called me several times. The last conversation was take your wife out somewhere nice and bring me the bill tomorrow. We will see what happens tomorrow I guess. The ball is in their court now. I told them they had to the end of the week to even out the workload or get me more money. If one or the other isn't done by Friday they can find another man.
k9mrussell 11-09-2004, 09:41 PM Holy crap!!!!
Josh, I hope all works out for you. Go take Mrs m4ck out for a nice dinner, relax and spend some quality time together. Don't let your day get you down.
IT WILL ALL WORK OUT!!!
Sounds like they need you A LOT more than you need them!!!!
Keep us posted.
Ps, Tell her happy B-day from the Russells!
firecracker 11-09-2004, 09:42 PM I hate that for you, man...hope all works out! But, what I've always told people was, "I had a job before I came here. Make it worth my while."
Keep up posted!
ETTitan 11-10-2004, 02:45 PM I agree. It sounds like they need you more than maybe you need them. This is what I tell my boss occassionally; "I was looking for a job when I found this one". Enjoy your night out, like you said, the ball is in their court.
Caltitan 11-10-2004, 04:46 PM m4ck, sorry to hear about your problems with your boss. Hopefully things will work out and you had a nice birthday with your wife (and Happy Bday to the Mrs). I commend you for putting your family first. I'm fortunate that I have an understanding employer when it comes to taking time off for family functions or my kid's doctor/therapy appointments. In return, when he asks if I can go the extra mile on a project, I do it. I wish more employers had that same attitude and hopefully your boss has now learned that you and his other employees have a life away from the job and he should support his employees when they need reasonable family/personal time.
BiXLL 11-10-2004, 04:55 PM So how did things pan out? I admire you for deciding to stand your ground! It is tough to do that these days with nothing lined up to fall back on. I hope your night went well, and wish mrsm4ck a happy birthday for me!
Thanks guys I was outa work after 10 hours today. He made it a point to come up and relieve me himself. Maybe they will do whats right. I sure hope so at least.
silverx 11-11-2004, 05:32 PM Sorry to hear your having such A big work load and no extra pay. I have been in such jobs and I have quit A few by just walking out. It really feels good to just walk out but thats only temporary satisfaction.Reality sits in and you realize that you no longer have work and now your forced to find another job ASAP. Take your time and look around before you just up and quit. I am sure you will be able to find something much better soon and when you do you will look back at that ol job and say "Man why did I work there for so long"
Good luck to you Josh and say happy b day to the mrs for me :D
