Question about the electronic limited slip(ABLS??). When I got my truck, I was amazed how well this worked. I drove once in snow, and got nothing but TRACTION. In the dry, making a left turn, I would get on the gas hard, immediatly get a double or triple flash of the SLIP light, and I'd be gone. I checked the marks I left back then and I'd get a dark mark about 30 ft long from the inside tire, and a lighter mark from the outside tire, the same length. Now, with 3500 mi on the truck, if I do the same thing, the SLIP light lights up and I spin 1 tire for 2 or 3 seconds, then the brake clamps down on the spinning tire hard and kills the acceleration. It's like the system is reacting too slowly and getting behind. It was much better when new, almost like a true posi. Now, especially in the rain, I find myself lifting to keep it from spinning. Any ideas? anyone else have a similar experience.

I didn't have the same experience, my '04 rear went at 3500 miles (It would spin a lot) then they put an '05 rear in with new brake assemblies. I drive easier now and it doesn't spin as much.

It was suggested and I tend to believe, that once you get a little wear on the back brake pads it will spin easier. Now how do you adjust for that ? I don't know.

Maybe the wear shouldn't matter if the proportioning unit (front to back brakes) for line pressure is working the same then all wheels should still be getting the same pressure as when new.

I think I just talked myself in a circle

:D :D :D

If no one helps, call some dealers on the phone for a likely cause maybe.

Hi rex, I'm not sure why your system has changed since new. My system reacts just like yours does now unless I turn off the VDC, then it will not cut the throttle, but the ABLS is still clamping the brakes trying to prevent my tires from spinning. Do you have VDC?

No VDC. I may have to talk to the dealer, I guess. It just seemed to react faster when new. It would keep both tires going close to the same speed, even when spinning, but now one has to really spin up before it kicks in.

The brakes being a little worn maybe your path, I am assuming you don't use the Emergency Brakes much, which have an auto adjuster built in to them, Try using it a few times to compress the brakes against the rotors, and build a history on the calipers.

Hey Jersey, the e-brakes are a seperate drum unit that rides inside of the rotors. A very good design that eliminates warping of the rear rotors when applied hot.

But they also have a spring fly that attaches to the caliper, hence the setting of pads against rotor, just not applied as a stopping measure.

ahhh, I think you may be getting the Titan confused with perhaps other Nissan vehicles jersey. The e-brake system is in fact entirely independent of the caliper system. I bet you're thinking about the maxima..

well, i always use the e-brake. i don't like to trust my truck to a sliver of metal jammed into the flywheel 8O Looks like I need to bring it to the dealer. Just started getting a little bit of the dreaded "brake judder" so I need to bring it in anyway. 3700 miles on her, and I thought I might be feeling the beginings if a problem last week. Now I'm sure. I'm hoping the dealer will order the parts and do the real fix so I don't have to waste time bringing it in a bunch of times.

Let them know you don't have the time to waste and also tell them everything you already know about this problem (high occurance rate, etc) and hopefully they won't lead you around. I know when my truck goes in it's a big hassle for me and I really can't afford 'do overs'. Unfortunately for me, the guys at my dealership are very polite and accomodating, but pretty tight-lipped or just plain dumb, not sure which.

Hope It Goes Smooth for ya' RexRacer,
