Looks cool but I would be afraid of it comming open while playing in the woods or somthing. I will save my $$ and use a wrench.

Agreed. The angle of the engine oil drain plug is such that adding an extension could put the end of the extension below the level of the skid plate that protects the oil pan. I seriously considered putting in this replacement valve but the possibility of it getting hit made me think twice.

If you change you oil once a week or something, go ahead. Otherwise, you are only saving a minute or two off your change.

I have this at work, on some generators, and it works well. I'm getting it for my Titan, but I never go off road so have no concerns like those above. Nifty thing to have, but, I understand an off roader not trying it.

It has OEM status fom dozens of Mfg's, best valve of its type, anywhere. :)

I'm going to get it for my '05 Honda Odyssey, was considering it for my Titan until you all pointed out the off road issue, and I like to play at times. It should do good on my van.

If I thought it would clear obstructions I would get it in a heartbeat. Being able to put a hose on the end of it would make oil changes sooooo much easier and cleaner.

I had it on my previous vehicle, but the it's just the angle that it would be at on the Titan that scares me.

Maybe that will bring us to the remote mounted oil filter, as it might be better positioned to avoid such a mess. :)

Oil filter????

We don't need no stinking oil filter. It was hard enough getting the factory one off. :D

If people are looking to keep their hands clean druing an oil change than I say take it to jiffy lube. We are men we are expected to have dirty hands. Plus I love mixing my blood with dirt and oil from me smashing my hand off of somthing while underneath my truck. Its like my truck and I are blood brothers.

I was changing oil in both my truck and van this weekend. The oil change for my truck went good. As far as my van, while removing my filter it slipped from my hand and fell into the waste oil bucket. Let's put it this way, I took a oil shower from when it splashed in the bucket.

Actually, it might not be as easy to flip that thing open as it seems. I'm a diesel mechanic and alot of our over-the-road trucks have these valves installed. The lever needs to be pushed out of a notch first and then twisted to open. I never researched it but now that I see that they are made for regular auto's I might just consider one. Oh, and by the way, these do not save you time just labor. They do not drain faster than the OEM drain plug.

I order one a while back after I just changed my oil. Changed oil today and instilled it. It doesn't hang down pass the skid plate. We had these on our farm equipment with no problems and I see no problem with the Titan. I have pictures but don't know how too post them here. I can e-mail them too one of you who can post them if anyone wants too see what it looks like.

I could not post them directly from my computer....for some unknown reason so I had to create an account at photobucket, resize them then post them. It was a long three hour headache. At least I know how to do so know.
Just curious; anyone have a part number for this valve....for a Titan?

Thanks HRTKD for doing this. It's hard to tell I know but it doesn't hang down past the skid plate. Actually it's only 1/2 inch longer then the head of the oil pan bolt. The funnel is real handy for putting your oil in, fits in there perfect, comes from Wal-Mart. The bottle drain is an B.O.B. (bottom of the bottle) you be surprise how much you get after they drain over night. The part number is F-103. The part is made by Fumoto.

I don't think the nipple well hang below the skid plate ether. There was about 1 1/2 inch's from the valve to the plate.

I have a Fumoto valve on my 07 with the O/R pkg and it doesn't hang below the skid plate. My valve doesn't have a nipple. The best part about the valve is that you can change your oil when it's hot and you won't get hot oil running down your hand or arm, and that's the best time to change your oil, when it good and hot. The valve is top notch quality, I have no worries about mine.

Thanks! Guess I could make one out of pvc if i wanted. I bought the safety clip with my valve also. Dont think I will use it 'cause the lever (valve) is pretty stout. Takes a lot of force to move it and I dont go off road. My truck is for hauling the toys and wife's fronty is for hauling arse and off roading. LOL

Mine finally shipped yesterday, anxious to add another gadget to the toy.

It's a fuel line clamp, same thing I carry at the shop. Any cycle/atv shop well have one. Probably auto parts well have them too.
This is the web site http://www.fumotousa.com/, they show the safety clip also if you want one.

I have had this on my 04 titan and my wifes minivan for 2 years. This is top notch and there is nothing to worry about it disengaging and opening. There is also no issue about it hanging down or its position. I was so paranoid, I kept re-testing it for hours with that lever. I bought the one without the nipple and a clear plastic tube still fits over the nipple for draining into an empty detergent container. The one that has the longer nipple wont make any difference. It does come out at a slower rate than just taking out the oil screw, but no mess. I have done many oil changes in both vehicles and it does still stand up to the challenge without a doubt. I even go inside the house for 10 minutes or so and let the oil drain entirely or do other things around the garage. It is personal preference, definetely a good investment for me. I will replace the washers and inspect the lever/opening and if that starts to go in time i will just re-order new ones. Not the case so far.
Hope I could of been some help to the TITAN lovers out there.

I have had one on my Titan since late 06 and love it, the best way to change your oil is when it's hot and this keeps you from getting burned from the hot oil. I have the Fumoto valve without the nipple and it does not stick out below the skid plate. The lever you have to move is very stiff, and you have to push down then over to to release the valve. You CAN"T bump it open. I love mine.

I too have one on my truck and I have never had any issues with it. I love it, don't have to worry about eventually stripping the plug over extended use. Never had it come open. I recommend doing it if you change your own oil.

Got to use the valve recently. Pretty darn handy. Cool thing is if you put too much oil in you can let a little out at a time. Not that I have ever done that. Funny, though I had the valve I still crawled under there with a ratchet. Habit I guess.

After a weekend of hard off-roading with a group of Titans where I blew out my rear shocks, scraped the frame and acquired a few new wounds to the skid plates, I did not damage the Fumoto drain valve. Mine is the one with the nipple on it so it sticks out even further than the non-nipple version.

The new web site for the valve is http://www.fumotousa.com/.

Looks pretty handy. Do any of you who have it take it off every few oil changes or so to make sure it doesn't get stuck on like some old bolts? I don't think it would really be a problem but I was just curious.

HRTKD
02-23-2009, 05:50 PM
I haven't had it on long enough to consider taking it off. I think it came with a fiberglass type filter. I'm not sure exactly what it's made up of but it wasn't metal.

TitanBlue
02-23-2009, 07:35 PM
I wouldn't worry at all about it being stuck, thread wise. It is soaking in hot oil! So don;t bother taking it off, no need to unless changing the oil pan.

As for cold weather, I do my oil changes right after I get home from work, and popping that valve is so easy to do without getting burnt. But, I'm in a work uniform, no fancy duds. And I have a homemade trapdoor to access the Oil filter!

Drain Oil, Check Titan Sites, Change Oil Filter. That's how I do it.

Still need to get one for my wife's car. :)
