: My heater quit blowing hot air!
LasVegasTitan 10-04-2007, 12:53 PM Ive read numerous posts where people complain about how hot( or should I say lack of heat) the heater in the titan gets and I always thought to myself "man mine gets hot, sometimes too hot." Well now mine blows "luke warm" instead of hot like it used to. I took it to the dealer and they had to keep it all day so I had to rent a car because I cant be without transportation all day. The call me at 5 to say its done. I drop off the rental car and my girlfriend takes me to the dealership. I drive around for about 20 minutes to let it get completely warmed up and what do you know the heater still blows barely warm. They said they replaced the thermostat housing, thermostat, and coolant. Then they bled and refilled the coolant system because there was an air pocket. I drive back immediately after I discovered it still wasnt working correctly and they have a tech come out and check it, he says they are all that way, I call b.s. and ask if they have a titan we can compare against but he said there wasnt any we could check it in. I love this truck and this isnt that big of a deal because it doesnt get that cold in Vegas but the point is it should be working. I also hate the service at the nissan dealerships, they wont even give me a damn loaner car. Sorry for the long rant.
Can anyone get a temperature reading with their heater on full blast? I just checked mine and the hottest it would get is 82 degrees and that took about 25 minutes to get to that temp
KINGMADE 10-04-2007, 01:41 PM Hmmmm the only reason i would be able to think of is low coolant levels... but they checked that.... dunno man.
Predator 10-04-2007, 03:06 PM I'm in vegas and can check mine. How did you test it? Blowing hot air out the main vents (not the floor)? Temp set to max. A/C off. Blower on max?
and did you just hold a thermometer up next to the vent?
LasVegasTitan 10-04-2007, 03:26 PM I bought a little thermometer for heating/cooling systems at autozone, you just stick it in the vent, it looks like a little meat thermometer. I turned the fan all the way up and the heat all the way up and put it on the main vents only. Its not that big of a deal here in vegas, it doesnt get that cold but its the priciple. What dealership do you use predator? I have had horrible service at both desert and planet nissan, they just dont care about anything.
erikf 10-04-2007, 03:29 PM This is just a thought... and it's probably a long shot... but have you changed your cabin filters? If you have an SE or LE there are micro filters behind the glove box that can get clogged, exp. in dusty environments.
Here's the link on how to change / check them.

Just curious... is your air blowing cold still? That would seem to be more inportant in LV.

I just changed the in cabin filters about 2 weeks ago. Thanks though.
Yeah the a/c is cold. Everyone at work had the same comment about taking my truck to the dealer "what the hell do you need a heater for?" lol. Like I said its just the point, this is my first new vehicle and it just aggrevated me that I had to go through all that trouble and nothing got fixed.
Rossi 10-04-2007, 03:41 PM What did you do???? Kick her out of the car?

I hear ya. I had an issue with the AUX fan right after I bought my truck and it took my dealer two visits to figure it out. I am suprised they wouldn't give you a loaner car...
Good luck... I'll be interested to hear what the resolution is.
wakeboarder2186 10-04-2007, 03:53 PM mine died on me a couple weeks ago and im waiting on the dealer to get a part now. the problem with mine was some valve in the heater, im guessing one that allowed the coolant water to circulate through. so that could be the problem with yours.

My dealer wont bother to check anything like that, they just keep saying its perfectly fine. Oh well, I suppose its fine as it is.
wakeboarder2186 10-04-2007, 05:41 PM oh, mine completely died, and my dealer is good about fixing things. hope you get it fixed, not sure about your warranty status but mine is almost up so im getting everything done i can before it runs out
Predator 10-04-2007, 05:49 PM I'll try it out when I go to work later. Hopefully I'll post your answer by 9pm.
What was the outside temp when you took your temperature?
Did you have recirculate on?
I am impressed fairly well with Planet Nissan. They messed up a rim when repairing my axle, but they took full responsibilty and replaced it.
Definately avoid United Nissan...that's where I bought it and would never go back.

Not sure of the outside temp
no recirculate.
I checked a few vehicles at work and my girlfriends car and the air coming directly out of the vent was 130-140. I know these arent the same cars but it should be somewhere around there, definitely not 80.
So I went back to planet nissan and talked to the service advisor I usually deal with, he wasnt there yesterday when they worked on it, and he felt it realized something was wrong and had me drive into the shop. One of the service techs looked at it and figured out that it was the valve that lets the coolant into the heater core, it was only partially opening. I feel a lot better now, I was just pissed because they kept trying to make it sound like I was just making crap up.
Predator 10-04-2007, 10:55 PM I didn't take out a thermometer tonight, but all I can say is with the heat on, it got so hot I had to pull my hand away from the vent. I'll try to get the temp tomorrow.

Like I said I got it figured out so its not a big deal. But the cars I tested all got to about 130-140 inside the vent. I just gotta wait for them to get that heater valve part in. It should get cold enough here to need it for another month anyways.
Predator 10-05-2007, 12:21 AM I guess I should read before I post...I didn't read your last paragraph about you finding the problem.

Yeah, thanks for your help though. I was beginning to think I was crazy and just remember it being a lot hotter last time I used it. 2 different dealerships kept telling me that so I started to think it might be true lol.
wakeboarder2186 10-05-2007, 10:01 AM glad to hear ya got it fixed. that was the same problem as mine

Yeah me too. It was never that big of a deal until the dealership tried to make it sound like I was just making crap up and complaining just to complain. I love this truck still though.
red_rider_elsinore 10-15-2007, 11:48 PM I was at the dealer today because I felt the heater wasn't warm enough. He called me and told me the heater was working fine. We put a thermometer inside the vent duct and it reached 110º. The things is when it's cold outside, 60-70º, the warm air doesn't feel like 110+. I feel dumb telling him it doesn't work then it heats up to over 110 in the shop. Any suggestions?

I hear ya on our dealerships I had mine in Douglas Nissan in the Valley Automall 6 times before they fixed my problem.... I have been to Planet Nissan and thier service seems better but i could be wrong knowing where you brought yours! All that is left is United Nissan...
Also noticed this thread is old!

Well now that mine is working properly again it gets up to 150 right inside the vent so I would think yours should be the same.

WHat problem were you having? I hear united nissan is the worst. I have had decent luck with planet and Ive been having good luck dealing with desert now that they are in a new location and have some new employees.
rdnajera 10-26-2007, 11:28 PM Hi, I new to the Club Titan. On the heater issue there is a blend door motor which is mounted on top top of the a/c box delow the dash on the passenger side. This motor controls hot and cold door. Learned this because I work on heavy equipment and they use the same type of a/c system. Some times the motors will just quit or the internal sensor will fail and create a popping noise. It took Reliable Nissan in Albuquerque 2 weeks to get me the right part.

What was the part and part number? Mine was working fine but now its not and it keeps making a popping noise. It works about 50% of the time now.
rdnajera 10-29-2007, 01:30 PM The part # is 27743-ZP00A for the actuator and 27163-ZC30A for the heater lever. Upon inspection my also had a broken heater lever. It is a pain to gain access to this acutator because the whole dash has to come off. The passenger side air bag is screwed on to the dash. One way you can tell if the motor is working with the heater dial is to remove the glove box, look to the left towards the 2 heater lines entering the a/c box. Move the heater dial and see if the lever moves. I'm also suspecting that your a/c is working properly, because mine was. The nissan dealership will probaly try to sell the one that is on there part page which is wrong.

I just unhooked the glove box and I cant see a lever. I just hear some popping noise when I try to turn the heater on. The dealer doesnt seem to care and isnt going to try to fix it anymore I guess. I am kinda sick of this situation. Yes the ac is still working fine.

I had a rear powerdoor lock malfunction and they replaced and then the problems started, one day after i had the lock fixed i rolled down the power windows and my rear passenger door popped open!!! i was like thats wierd. so i went to the back door shut it and it wouldnt shut... so i rolled the window up and shut it and it closed. then went to roll down the window again and it stopped about an inch from being flush with with top of the door.... so i went to open the rear door from the outside and the back door wouldnt open from the outside or inside handle. needless to say i went back 4 times after the original power door lock incident before they got everything fixed and in the right places. I had even told the service manager how much i was disgusted etc etc and they (Douglas Nissan) had a very stand offish attitude saying well its mechanical etc etc and things fail and i had said not when they are properly installed etc etc.... i ended up getting money taken off my Tranny Fluid Change and free oil changes but i doubt i will go back there for service. I had also gotten a Front End Alignment but noticed today that my Passenger Front is Wearing on the edge still so im not too thrilled about that....... I'll probably go back to Planet.

Yeah it seems like all the dealerships here have a stand offish attitude. They dont even seem to want to try and fix my heater and im getting very irritated.

Every Reason to be also! did you call Nissan Directly? What year is your Titan? Still Underwarranty?
LasVegasTitan 10-29-2007, 05:44 PM Every Reason to be also! did you call Nissan Directly? What year is your Titan? Still Underwarranty?
Yeah I called nissan directly, didnt get me anywhere. Its a 2006 with the gold package extended warranty.
110ROADY 02-13-2008, 06:30 PM Well my heater quit working and its 24deg,s with the wind chill facter here in atlanta georgia. Im going to the dealer saterday morning, I will relay what you guys had done to your titans at the dealership here. Can,t say any thing about the dealer here cause I just moved to the area from florida. Might be interesting?
grasutu 02-17-2008, 07:54 PM My 08 that i ve had for 2 weeks stop blowing hot air , took it to the stelarship on friday and they told me that is some kind of am electrical part and that they ll have it by monday .Saturday evening my heat start working again ....i have to call them in the morning to see what to do ....my Titan has healing powers !!!! :)
Kubed 02-17-2008, 08:35 PM I'll be very interested in seeing if anyone in Vegas gets their heater fixed. Mine was kinda iffy before, but blows cold now. I took it to douglas and they wanted $130 for a radiator flush before they would even look at it. ... and that's on an '06 with 28k.
LasVegasTitan 02-17-2008, 08:40 PM I guess I forgot to ever post a follow up. Planet nissan finally got mine fixed. They ended up having to take the entire dash out to replace that actuator that changed the vent from cold air to hot air.
Calhoun687 02-25-2008, 11:05 PM Vegas
I just went through this with a local Dealership, it was in 4 times for similiar issues.
A/C stopped blowing, A/C would change to full blast without me touching a thing Resolution= was the Display was defective it also cured the volume of air between sides
Second was either too hot, too cold, different temp between passenger and driver
Resolution= was the Air intake sensor behind the Dash, I am waiting for mine to arrive then they will be taking the dash apart
the best way to tell is this.Turn on the heater and let it warm up
From the passenger look up toward behind the Center dash and start changing the temp from 90 to 85, the mechanism should only move slightly maybe 1/2 inch if it does like mine did and move almost all the way around from 90 to 85
in your case it might start off on the cold side and by the time it gets to 80 or 90 the mechanism should go almost all the way around.
What we found that the common problem with the air intake sensor is too hot and no control, too cold air or lack of control or changing temp while driving
That is the air intake sensor behind the dash and the whole dash needs to be removed in order to fix it.

sorry I replied before I read the final response. I went through this with my titan and the same dealership 4 times until I filed a complaint with nissan customer care and took it to another dealer and they fixed the problem

The air intake sensor has a mind of its own, some days it is ok and some days it wants to act up, there is nothing consistent with this problem, it does appear there is allot more titans with this issue then they are admitting to.
HRTKD 02-26-2008, 12:35 AM I'm wondering if I had this problem last week. It was around -6 Farenheit and my feet kept getting cold with the heater set to 75 degrees and the truck had been running on the highway for an hour or so. I had to crank it up to 90 degrees before I could get decent heat. Does that sound familiar?
dropit69 02-27-2008, 11:46 PM my 08 heater sucks..can leave it on full blast all way to work ..20 mins and it barely gets warm in cabin..can hold hand right up to vent and it wont burn ya like alot of them do..think its the controller?
