We need a slogan for the race club so we are having a contest to help us decide.

We will put this slogan on shirts and other items but the shirts are first so I will talk a bit about them. This slogan will appear on shirts first but should not be specific to just a shirt in case we want to use it elsewhere. For example on the back of a shirt you might say, “If you can read this I’m winning” but that would make no sense on a coffee mug and neither would “ TEAM VK56 won the race and all I got was this shirt”

Don’t focus on the Club logo either because that will go on the left shirtsleeve or the left front chest in a small 2 or 3” format as the club identifier. The shirts may end up having TEAM VK56 on the front or back as well as the slogan but this contest is just for the slogan alone and nothing else. The print colors have been worked out already as well and they are red, gray and black and the shirts themselves will be white, black or gray. We will have a design contest following the slogan contest to decide parts of the overall shirt design but this contest is just for the slogan.

Here are the rules:

1. No profanity or variation of anything that could be considered profane. For example “My headers have tough nuts” or “How do you like my engine hose” would not be acceptable. Use your imaginations but keep it ultra clean, this is to be a family friendly slogan.

2. Try to keep it short, no one wants to read War and Peace off of a shirt or anything else.

3. No race type or vehicle references allowed. For example, “Titans rule” or “Follow me to the drag strip” will not be acceptable. It’s all about the engine and not the type of racing or the Titan in specific.

4. Anyone can participate, you do not have to be a member of the club yet.

5. You are allowed to take someone else’s slogan and modify it. For example, if you saw “The VK56 rules the races”, you could change it to “The VK56 rules”.

Just submit your slogan in this thread and if you like a slogan or two, quote it in a post and tell us you like it. We will have to narrow it down to three or four for voting but in the mean time we just want to see where this goes and are going to give it a week before we start voting. The voting will then run for another week and after we have a slogan we will start the graphic design portion of the contest.

Have fun with it, you have at least one week to give it your best shot.

Holy ShiftI've been thinking the same thing and it probably is trademarked. We may be able to get away with it since we are Nissan vehicles but we are not going to risk it. Let's come up with a slogan that leaves the Shift out of it for now untill the legal department checks into it, and given the size of the legal department........ that will be never, lol. That throws out a lot of them but leaves a few good ones as well and we will keep going till the end of the week.

VK 56 may be trademarked also, even if not a registered trademark. Yes, worth looking into, though I don't think any of this would be a problem for Nissan. The Ricer crowd likely has a ton of this stuff, never gets in trouble for it. But, be careful. Remember nissan.com. :)

Not yet but we don't know what the future holds and we don't want to be in an awkward legal position later on with another companys advertising slogan all over our shirts and stuff. We are already looking into sponsoring Team Renezeder and a truck in the Baja race so we would just as soon not use the "Shift" anything for a slogan.

Wether or not you sell something, is not the sole required determination of infringement. Use is. Within Copyright law, our church is allowed to record and distribute to the congregation, music we perform during the service, if the congregation is singing with the song. But, if it is simply performed, with no expectation of participation, we are not allowed to record it. We distribute CD's for free, and pay into a national copyright organization called CCLI, whichs pays the artist. This fee covers all of the songs we perform, but not every situation. It is complicated stuff. I attend a class on this each year to try and stay current. Copyright, Trademark and Registered Copyright or Trademark are all different, but related in concept.

But, back to slogans. The real purpose of this thread. :)

This one's getting some love on another forum. I don't know about the rest of you but I was born to compete and I think the fact that we are always calling our victories "kills" and saying we had a Hemi for lunch and a Catfish for dinner makes us all predators, lol. I also think it opens up a lot of graphics possibilities, claw marks, teeth and so on.

yea, I also like the predator or something viciousI would love to put the word street in their somewhere but we can't do it. As a club, we can't endorse any street racing whatsoever. Yes, it happens and I have been known to have some tough battles at the on ramps of the local toll road but as a club we just can't be seen as endorsing it. Even without the word street in there, the message will be clear and I can't wait for the graphics part of the contest. We will start the voting this weekend for the slogan and if it's a landslide to one particular slogan, we will kick off the graphics part of the contest early. I think the idea of a predator is catching on somewhat so start thinking about what type of graphics you would like to see involving a predator. The teeshirts could be much better than I imagined and something that people outside the club may even be interested in. thanks to everyone for the support and the WE WANT SHIRTS attitude, lol.
