That article brings up the durability of our rear Dana 44 axle. Is it enough axle for a full size 1/2 ton turck? I've been pondering this a little and breifly looked into it, I think it is the smallest/weakest axle in a full size truck (corect me if I'm wrong). I know the Dana 44 is a good solid axle for smaller 4x4's for example Jeeps but even on a Jeep that is about the minimum for serious off roaders.

Just some thoughts, I've had no problems with mine yet but I've really put no stress on it either on or off-road. I think my wife might leave if I tell her I need to put a custom Dynatrac Dana 60 on my brand new truck LOL.

Go get a 60 from a 3/4 ton Ford. I pick them up off and on for anywhere from $150 to $300. Plasma off the mounts, weld 'em on the 60... perfect.

Dynatrac can kiss my ***.

I'd like to get my hands on some traction bars like they were putting on! Without lifting the whole truck.

i don't know about the second axle they broke. howver, the first one, they were towing without going through the low speed breakin process of the first 500 mmiles.

i'm close to 30,000 miles. offroad quite often with alot of wannabe baja 1000 on the trails up to 90 mph. i have the dealership check the diffs everytime i change my oil and sofar sogood. :reallygood:

Hi Louie,

The Dana 44 we have in our trucks is an 8.5" unit, same as the 12 bolt that Chevy uses in their 1/2 ton trucks. I believe the heat issue with our rear diffs is more of a problem than overall size when it comes to durability. Take care of the heat issue with an aluminum diff cover and synthetic fluid, and I doubt there will be many problems with our units.

Dafridge good to hear you've been putting yours thru the paces.

Jettech good info.
This is not a huge concern of mine just thoughts going thru my mind based on things I've read in some of the forums.

:? Did I miss something? I read they used a 4.56 axle in the rear axle conversion. No mention of speedo or front axle. Is there some front axle in existance that is the same as ours and did they just leave the speedo?

Latest issue of Four Wheeler magazine shows that their long term CC Titan was decimated by a patch of black ice, just before they were to turn it back in. On the upside the truck performed way above their expectations and completely protected the occupants during the incident.

First of all...sweet Project Truck they have. The lift and decals are NICE! And as for the Four Wheeler Titan that spun out...I was CRUSHED! For months, we were reading how it was the "work house" of the fleet and how much everyone loved it. They were gonna de-comission it too soon....but it CRASHED! I was sad...
