Now that i'm in the 13's the track says i have to wear a helmet.I have a motorcycle helmet that is DOT approved,Its open face,half shell.Can i get away with that?

What NHRA requires (but not fully inforced) is a Snell SA Rated helmet. The SA means it is fire resistant, as opposed to just the impact resistance of the M series. You can probably get away with it, but an open face SA can be had for about 150-175.

Wish I had gotten that instead of my full face which only has an M rating (didn't know all the details at the time, and the Zamp matches my trucks graphics pretty well).

I would bet you can at the speeds you run and they will probably just look for some kind of helmet. If you do have to buy another one, get one that is at least SA2000 rated and buy from someplace that will let you send it back if all you do is try it on. Good luck man.

I have seen lots of guys at the track with other than SA rated helmets so you may want to just check Ebay if cost is the primary concern. I saw a lot of cheap helmets on Ebay but not car racing SA rated ones.

Had a hard night at work last night,so i did a little shopping.Looks like the the best price i could find is $129 for a SA.I only have to wear it for 13 sec at atime,lol.
