So I wanted to improve the sound in my Titan by installing some Kicker aftermarket speakers....they were apparently put in with the rear door speaker cross-over wired in wrong (the rear door speakers are component speakers that have a separate woofer and tweeter). To make a long story short, the system blew 2 amps, and Nissan changed them out, along with the Navigation unit, thinking it might be shorting the system. They failed to do some basic trouble-shooting to see if the most common of all amp failure was the output side, instead of the input side.

Anyway, they finally discover that I had some aftermarket speakers and called me to tell me that I was going to have to take my truck back with the amp not working. (It had blown the last time in their shop after replacing it with the 2nd new amp) I was told that I had failed to tell them of the aftermarket speakers. I had previously had Circuit City put them in, and after the first amp blew, I went to them to see if they could have been the problem. Their response (which seemed logical at the time) was, "We simply replaced the Nissan speakers with our speakers, and there is no way that this will affect the system."

That seemed to make sense. So, I took the truck in after the dealer ordered the amp and it had finally come in. I picked it up after hours, and when I tried the sysem out, the rear speakers did not work at all. In my call the following day to the dealer, they said the speakers had worked all day long, the previous day. Ok, so the speakers from Circuit City were in a month before the amp blew, so I did not give it another thought about the speakers.

So, Nissan ordered another amp and I took the truck in, this time to leave it for a couple of days. The dealer was kind and gave me a rental for those two days.

They called me and said that I should come get my truck, that they had discovered that I had installed after market speakers and the left rear door was exhibiting a higher than acceptable ohm reading. The service manager said that the tech basically wanted nothing more to do with this job, due to the frustration of not being told there were aftermarket speakers installed. I simply said that I had checked with the company that had installed them and their claim was they had replaced basically like for like.

He said that he was going to close out the work order by claiming the system was fixed, so he could get compensated for his tech labor from Nissan. I said OK, thinking that I was going to be forced to pay for the labor fees, or for that matter, the 2 amps and the Nav unit, if I did not comply.

I have now removed the amp from the truck (it is kind of a chore, because you have to remove the entire throttle assembly from the firewall to get the amp, satellite and some other module out of the slide brackets.

So, I have this amp out and I have located the part number (P/N28060 85110) and the model number (EN-1225H-B), and I wonder how much these things cost. Can I have it repaired by an electronics tech? Rockford is located right here in Tempe, a 20 minute drive.....Can I go to them? Can I buy a remanufactured unit?

When I got the truck back, I went back to C/C and had them put in a 600 watt Infinity amp, bypassing the oem amp. Actually, they took feed from the inputs to the oem amp, which are the outputs of the RF head unit, and fed the new amp with those. There is an annoying engine hum/whine, even when the sound system is off. I am wondering if the aftermarket ground is not adequate....

I am also wondering if the C/C people should be taking feed from the output of the amp, for gain matching reasons of the oem amp to the RF head unit...I am getting to the limits of my understanding of electronics, but I have read somewhere that you have to be carefull sometimes when using aftermarket amps with these higher-end systems. Anyone have an opionion on this, or know more about this?

If there is a case to be made for gain matching or similar issues, I will need to get a new/replacement oem amp, so we can use the amp output to the 3rd party amp.

I apologize for having such a long post, but I have seemed to really mess things up here. C/C has taken very good care of me for over 5 years with all of my vehicles, but I am wondering if I should pursue something with them....

Anyone got any thoughts on what I should do next? I would love to get some locations/prices on where I can buy this amp from a remanufacturer or repair facility, if there is such a thing. Nissan parts want $499 for this baby. Thanks for tolerating such a long post....
