: Including the full size spare in the Tire rotation
:?:
Has anyone included their spare in their tire rotation? I read in the owner's manual that Nissan does not recommend using the spare in the rotation.
Although I have not removed the spare, it looks no different than the 4 other ones.
Any info would be appreciated.
Redright9 06-14-2005, 06:27 PM I think they dont recomend the spare being used is because it does not have a tire pressure sensor in it..So the low tire light will be on..Thats all I can think of..
Thanks for the info. If it's only the tire pressure gauge and light, I think I can live with it.
I'll take the spare off this weekend and take a closer look at it.
Chief 06-14-2005, 09:50 PM I'll be using the spare for the first rotation since the two back ones aren't gonna pass inspection anyway. I'll get it remounted on one of the rims with the sensor. Then I'll only have to buy one tire.
(maybe I'm a redneck)

Sounds like you gotta keep yer foot outa it
(yeah, sure  )
electricjohn 06-15-2005, 07:34 AM I used the spare in my rotation and the only problem i have had is the low pressure light comes on on long trips. The warning buzzer does not sound. It is easy to live with since the light is in the lower left of the info cluster. You don't really see it. I plan on using a five tire rotation till they are worn out, then saving the best of the five for my spare, and going to a four tire rotation. If memory serves me right, when the spare was on the back, I did not get a low pressure warning. I rotate every 6000 miles. At 15000 now.
Kopperking 06-15-2005, 08:10 AM Just make sure to use Flash Cards to "Demonstrate" to the "Certified Tire Technician", that if he pulls a rim from the Right side, Don't Re-mount it on the Left side!!!
Oh yeah, when you get home, be sure to "double-check" the Lug nut Torque. (Ever since I had a wheel fall off a vehicle after a tire change, I don't TRUST, "Certified Tire Technicians") :grrr:

You and Ron Smith. He said his Certified Tire Technician was sick on LUG NUT DAY.

Just remember to check your pressure regularly, since the light will be on all the time, you will not know if you are really low on air unless you check.
Chief 06-15-2005, 06:08 PM Good Suggestion Jays,
As far as where they go, I finally started to mark them on both sides with a permanant marker. I mark where they will go before I get to the shop.
I'm sure this method will somehow fail me in the future :x
I was thinking about this one today too, tell them they must mount any weights on the inside of the rim if they are balancing, otherwise it's a do-over.
Chief
jaysplaypen 06-15-2005, 06:36 PM I love you more and more chief, I hate the outside weights they scratch and are ugly. At least I am not the only one.

I believe it was Ron White
I've had a dealer and three tire techs tell me that the spare has a sensor. The dealer told me that when you rotate the tires the light will come on if you don't reset it. They charge $20 to reset it. The guy that just replaced my tires said the process to reset should be in my owner's manual (haven't checked yet). I just had them put all the wheel back in stock location and my light went off.
I guess that proves that at least one dealer and three techs don't know what they are talking about.

Hi Mav, you do know that the information your dealer and tire techs told you was incorrect right?
Mavryck 06-26-2005, 11:30 PM haven't popped the tire off the rim of the original sprare to look for myself, but they all say it has the right kind of valve for it. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other, I drove the thing for ten months with the light on. I've driven other vehicles for twenty years without a tire sensor at all. I know how to read a tire guage.
Sjguy01 06-27-2005, 12:01 AM my sensor light also goes on during long trips because i switched my spare tire with the front tire. I ignore the light and it eventually shuts off, and i check the tire on long trips so it is fine.
Rossi 06-27-2005, 12:27 AM I kinda forget the spare in my vehicles even exists...I may hit it or something every now and then...but never have rotated it. Since you are even talking about this...I assume that it is on the same rim. Is it the same tire too??? RAted the same?? I have not looked...however I have aftermarket rims now so it don't matter.
jaysplaypen 06-27-2005, 12:43 AM that could be a problem. If you get a flat you gonna run 3 of one size and 1 of another to the tire place to get it fixed. My neighbor got a flat yesterday, and he had the take it off and drive it in another vehicle to get it fixed since the spare was a different size. to much hassle for me, so I will stick with the 5 matching tires.
Rossi 06-27-2005, 12:47 AM The diameter of the stock wheel/tire is identical to my aftermarket wheel/tire.
jaysplaypen 06-27-2005, 01:12 AM rossi your truck came stock with 22's
Mine has 18's
Am I missing something? I am not a tire expert by any means, but they sound different to me.
Rossi 06-27-2005, 01:15 AM It did have stock 18's...and yes...now has 22's...but with the lower profile tire...the diameter...is equal to stock. The overal height of the wheel/tire combo has not changed. The new tire are a 45 series tire compared to..whatever they are stock. But I did a bunch of checking...and with the bigger rim..the 45 series tire was exactly what I need to have no spedo issues.
jaysplaypen 06-27-2005, 01:23 AM good thinking then, I would have never thought of it that hard.
Rossi 06-27-2005, 01:27 AM And you thought I was just the funny guy online!! LoL
Actually...I think m95roadster told me this before also...but he went with 40 series cause he wanted it lower...or something like that. So it wasn't all me...but I asked the questions!
