I HAVE AN 04 TITAN AND THE A/C SYSTEM ONLY SEEMS TO BE COLD ON THE MAX A/C SETTING AND NOT ON REGULAR A/C-WHEN I SAY NOT COLD I REALLY MEAN LUKE WARM-I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY TELL ME IT IS NORMAL-IS THIS TRUE OR ARE THEY MISSING SOMETHING?

All Max a/c does it put it on recirculate..BUt with the a/c button on and temp on cold, the air should get cold comming out of the vents..If it is only luke warm after it has been running, the dealer is missing something....I really dont see Titans/armadas with a/c problems...Being it only seems to get cold on the max setting, may be an indication something like the control head is going out..but the dealer should look at it and diagnose the problem..Doesnt really sound normal to me..

my new 05 titan with 1700 miles, isn't very cold when it is at idle. I have to be driving it to get cold. Its annoying but i guess that just 134a for ya. Has anyone else experience not being very cold at idle. This is about a 90 degree day.

I don't think it would hurt for either one of you to take it back to the dealer for a second look. Of the two Titans I've owned, each one would freeze you out if left on the normal setting A/C full cold. It didn't matter if I was cruising down the highway or sitting in Atlanta traffic on a hot summer day. I almost always have to add a little heat just to keep the inside comfortable.....Sounds like your systems may be have too much freon in them.

no problem with a/c here. Get to the dealer :cold:

Yeah mine works great too.

No problems with mine....kinda odd that you state that it works on MAX....you are pushing in the button and getting the AC light to come on right??? Had to ask. Cause MAX turns it on automatically if I remember corectly.

Mine freezes me all the time no problems. I would take it back, or go to a different dealer.

My AC works great when it supposed to, but it also works when it's not supposed to.

If I'm going down the road, like this morning to work, I turn on the dash vents and the temp full cold, all I want is 65ish degree air and the AC compressor will kick on even when I haven't pushed the button to turn on the AC and the yellow light is still off. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough to disturb me now and then.

I've confirmed that the compressor clutch is running without the light for the AC being on. Also the MAX setting will automatically turn on the AC, but you guys already knew that.

One thing I've noticed in the winter is that the heater on the floor is less than adequate and blows in all the wrong places. My go pedal foot is always cold and never sees any air flow. My wife has similar issues with the passenger's side. I've never had a truck or car with this badly miss-directed air flow.

The AC dash vents on my Titan are also somewhat limited on the driver's side for good cooling of the driver in extreme heat.

I'm not knocking the Titan, I really do love it, but hey, it's still okay to have issues with something isn't it?????

My wife has an '04 Murano and she loves that thing to death. The only thing I have a problem with on that is that being a gearhead it bugs me that you can't feel the transmission shifting from gear to gear. I understand how it works, but it just doesn't seem right to have a vehicle speeding down the road gaining speed without shifting. Oh well, it works great and she says it's hers anyway so get over it.

I'm about to make an appointment for my brake judder service trip. I've just turned over 16K miles and I've had a slight pulsation for about 6K to 8K miles.

By the way, has anyone come up with a solution for the sliding rubber caps on the bed track rails? Mine keep sliding and making that nice thunk as they hit the box front panel upon hard braking.

Sorry for the sidetrack on this thread.

Later dudes and dudettes.

Dan you are so right the ajustablity is lacking. It is bad at aiming it at you, but it is worse to aim it away. I like to have the air on cooling the space, but do not like it aimed directly on me. I get cold to easy that way. the middle vents near the radio do not turn far enough away to be off you unless you aim it at your window. But then my arm gets cold. And try to aim the air to the back for others is not very easy.

I have the same problem with my 04, only last year it worked much better. Last summer I hardly ever put it on max and I remember one day the mirror was reading 106 and I was still comfortable with the a/c on normal. This summer if I don't put it on max I am sweating. I just took it to the dealer Monday and was told the system was full and operating like it was supposed to. I would believe it if it wasn't for last summer. I guess I will have to connect my gages and check it out myself.

With my a/c it doesn't get ice/real cold, just cool when it is on normal and when I turn on the recirculate and on normal it get really cold. Does everyone turn on the recirculate on normal air, if not I probably should take mine in to check the freon.

Just an FYI for everyone, Nissan only covers "seasonal freon recharge" for the first year OR 12,500 miles of the vehicles life..So, if you think you may have a low freon issue, get it in! But if a defective part is found, thats still covered with the 3year 36k warranty.

keep in mind a/c isn't meant to freeze you out. It is meant to lower the ambient temp by 10°-20°. On the hottest days, a/c may be working but it still may not feel like it. But 20° cooler than 105° is still 85°.
Turn the recirc on until the truck completely cools down then let the fresh air back in. If it gets too warm, turn back on the recirc. Also, the faster you rev, the more there is compression in the system forcing the cooling effect in. At 500-750 RPM idle, the compressor isn't working too efficiently.

Use this table to see if your A/C is performing correctly.

Nice chart SCR.
I didn't realize the humidity made that big a difference.
Do you have a Houston chart that goes above 70%?

:sweating:

06-24-2005, 10:47 PM
Don't have a chart with higher humidity. The discharge temps will be 2-3 degrees warmer here on the Gulf Coast. But you realize that the A/C does reduce the humidity inside when it is on recirculate, so after running for a while the outlet temp will be quite a bit lower.

My AC also seems week. 2005 Titan Crew cab. My old Ford Taurus blows ice cold air, my Titan is just cool. Whats up with that??? I will have to bring it up to my dealer when I take it in for the 1st service. Does anyone know when we are supposed to take the new truck in for the first service?

Same thing here and yes I turn on the recirculate too. I've had a hose replaced due to a bad seal and the compressor replaced due to a leak where the lines attach so I know the system has been vaccumed and recharged at least 2 times. It has never felt any different even before the first problem. Sure would like to figure out why some have very cold air while others of us have cool. It has been in the mid 90s with high humidity here for a while. Takes the truck about 20 min to cool off on normal setting and about 5 with the recirculate on. Surely we have an A/C expert among us who can offer some direction.

JT, just curious, why was too much freon your first thought rather than something else? Anything to it or just shooting from the hip? (I understand what too much freon can do.) Thanks.

hey guys with a/c problems, there is a TSB about it, check it out and see if it applies, rossi just posted it higher in the technical section
