I’m not one to preach because I have done my share of irresponsible things but I guess I learned at an early age the dangers of street racing and to keep my testosterone in check till I get on a race track. Have I been known to go too fast on public roads? Sure. Do I always obey speed limits? Honestly I rarely do and that doesn’t matter weather I’m going to the store, work, vacation, you name it, I can generally be found going at least 5mph over the speed limit. I make exceptions to that when I am in areas that pedestrians frequent, school zones, neighborhoods, parks and parking lots but mostly I speed.
I have also been known to race to the speed limit and a little more from a traffic light and race getting on to the expressway but if I want to be really irresponsible, I find a nice deserted stretch of country road or highway because if I misjudge a turn or exceed my vehicles capabilities or my driving skills in some way, I am the only one there to pay the piper save the occasional cow that they were going to slaughter anyway.
You guys out there that race on the public roads around other people are a lethal nuisance and need to stop it. Rush hour traffic is no place to test your driving prowess or your vehicles cornering capabilities and the local school zone is no place to see how fast your car can get from 0 to 60. Please cease and desist before you kill someone’s friend or loved one. If you want to commit vehicular suicide and push your rod to the ragged edge, go do it on a deserted stretch of country road somewhere. I have really had it with the guys who can regularly be seen tailgating, swerving from lane to lane and driving like they were in a hurry to get to their own funeral because they saw it in a movie. This is real life guys, think before you floor it and kill somebody.
The reason I bring this up is because my friends life was claimed on SR 520 in Orange County Florida last Friday night by some idiot in a Mustang that crossed the median and flipped his car which landed on top of my friends NSX and killed him and the girl riding in the Mustang. The kid driving was OK of course and they released him the next day. He faces charges of vehicular homicide because witnesses said they saw him and a truck street racing down SR 520. RIP Robbin Hollar, sorry you had to die because some jerk in a Mustang couldn’t control his car or his actions. The really sad thing is that the drag strip is less than 5 miles from where this happened and WAS OPEN AT THE TIME. Save the dangerous stuff for the track guys and I’ll see you at the races.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. My street racing days are far behind me. Most of my stunts are performed FAR from any road.

Sorry to hear pappa,I know i'm guilty, and will keep this in mind. It's hard when it hits home like this.I know we have all gone too fast from time to time and I am guilty as well but the one thing I don't do is drive it on the ragged edge unless it's out in no mans land. This kid was obviously pushing the vehicle and himself to the limit and that's the kind of thing that gearhead kids usualy do, I know I did but we did it on deserted country roads. Be safe man and maybe I'll see you at the OT meet.

I am really sorry to hear about your friend, my sympathy to the friends and family of all who mourned a lost one in the wreck. I am guilty myself and have toned down quite a bit since my serious carwreck of '03.

My wreck was caused by a speeder overtaking and coming into my lane around a bend(talk about blind corners) resulting in my totalled vehicle.

Before my wreck I was preparing for a street drag race using both lanes of a public road 3am in the morning. I had previously gotten beaten by this dude by just a bit and the next race was going to be mine because my vehicle was well tuned this time and I had spent thousands in performance parts.

At that time I had three vehicles and ended up selling 2 to pay medical bills and the same guy that I was going to race bought some of the performance parts off me, the rest of the parts were also sold. Funny thing is you should see the look on his face when he saw what I had in store for him, he said that he would have never won the next race with me LOL.

Thinking back on it now those were really dumb and dangerous activities that I was involved in and some actions have serious consequences and as they say "If you can't do the time Don't do the crime."

People need to take that type of driving waaaaaaay out in the country somewhere with no one around.

Sorry for your loss.
I too have lost friend and family to irresponsible drivers. Nothing new. The youngest was my 8 year old cousin 'in the middle of nowhere', 'way out in the country' 'on a deserted country road' in Oklahoma.

We lived 'way out in the country with no one around'. Problem is there usually is someone or something around 'way out in the country' like farm/ranch kids, hikers, wildlife, livestock, kids joyriding just on the other side of the crest of the hill, coming out an obscured side road or from an 'empty' field, etc. You can't really 'see everything for miles'.

Statistically, almost all of the deaths here 'in the middle of nowhere' in Wyoming are from negligent driving. Very few are 'accidents' caused by equipment failure or an act of G**.

The only safe place(relatively) is the track.
