Hi all,

Can anyone help me find the best place, to tap into, to get power for a 350W inverter? I was thinking of installing it under the front passenger seat. The inverter will provide a power source for a laptop charger, TV, etc.

I guess I could run wires right to the battery but there may be a closer power source.

Thanks for your help on this project.

Hi Brian,

I had the same delimma when I installed my DVD player and inverter. The best thing to do is go to Wal-Mart or an electronics store and buy an amp wiring kit. They cost about $20. It typically comes with 17ft. of 10ga power wire and 2ft. of 10ga ground wire. Run the power wire right to the battery. You can drill a small hole in the firewall right near the passengers footwell to run the power wire. All you have to do is remove the fenderwell liner and you'll see where I'm talking about. Another good thing about the amp kits is that they typically come with a 25amp fuse built into the power wire. I paid $30 for the kit I used from Best Buy, then saw the same kit at Wal-Mart for $20.....grrrrrrr

Or you can run it through the holes on the drivers side......without looking it has a few other cables already going through it but I got my power cable to go through it with now problem.

I tap a 300 watt inverter to the wiring harness under the steering wheel column and don't have any trouble at all.

I think he's asking where to connect the wires from the Inverter.

I bought a 700W inverter so I can use my GameCube and connect my Flat screen TV that I put behind my center console, and I'm looking for a wire that I can connect to. On my Grand Cherokee I used the cigarette lighter wires, had to put a fuse there though. But I won't do the same or I will void my warranty, so I have to find a better place to connect the inverter

For a inverter of this size you will have to run a suitable wire directly to the battery. With a full load on the inverter the current draw from the battery will be over 30 amps. You will need a #10 or larger wire, properly fused.

there is a hole on the driver side that is plugged you can fit up to 4 gauge wire thru it and if you ever remove the system you can just put the plug back in, no drilling required.

You're right. The one I had for my old Grand Cherokee was way smaller, so I had no problem using the cigarette lighter wires. This one I guess I will have to put a stronger wire, didn't think about the change.
