After running the new JBA catback for three weeks, it was time to make a decision about reducing the drone level. Today I decided to cut off 14" of tailpipe. Did it work? Hell yeah, the drone between 1600-1900 RPM is almost entirely gone! Doing this to the JBA catback worked even better than with the 18" Magnaflow and stock pipes I had on before. Cutting off the last 14" toned it down just a bit, more mellow and a touch deeper in tone. I'm 100% pleased with the results. Soundclips before and after, just some revs:

I've been thinking about getting rid of my JBA exhaust as im getting tired of hearing that awful drone. I can't decide on whether to get rid of it and get something else that is more quiet or change the k&n muffler to an aeroexhaust 3030XL with a built-in resonator. I hear that the Gibson exhaust systems have less drone or no drone at all. Maybe i should cut out the exhaust tip as Suddenurge and give it a try.

The reduced drone is a night and day difference with the shorter tailpipe. Don't waste any money changing out the mufffler. This mod to the JBA reduced the drone 80%, not just 50% as I experienced before with the 18" Magnaflow I had on my stock setup.

Thanks for the info, Suddenurge. BTW, what did you use to cut out the pipe?

Autozone has free tool rental. I used an adjustable chain type multi wheel exhaust pipe cutter, looks like a pair of pliers with a chain on it. I did it in their parking lot, and it took maybe five minutes.

I'll fix that in a second, thanks. It's fixed now.

Man you guys should hear the trucks out here... in Hawaii 95% of the trucks/SUV's are running FM40's, 44's. They sound like 500HP trucks but under the hood all stock. I'm not into that, the sound of my car has to match its performance.

I love my JBA can't even hear it with my radio playing.

Lol....Drone with a JBA?!?

I thought my Banks had no drone when I had it...then I got the JBA, and I really could hear no drone...

Some of you people must have super-sensitive hearing.

Hey guys, not trying to hijack the thread but I just installed my JBA this afternoon. dbolemiss, thanks again for the advance, it helped!!
OK, I have to agree with everyone else that the tailpipe clamp will NOT hold without welding, so I guess a trip to the muffler shop is due this week, however, for the time being I am running without the tail pipe extension and my truck is not noticeably louder than factory. It does have a nice sounding rumble, especially when I hit the gas but I have no drone and I am quite pleased with the way it sounds. I hope I don't regret it after I get the tailpipe installed. Is the drone really that bad?
By the way, if anyone else is considering the JBA, I have to say that it does help performance out a bit and it is not too loud. Installation is VERY easy, especially if you have air tools.

If you use a breaker bar to tighten the tailpipe, it will hold without welding. And, honestly, I don't hear any drone. Out of the 3 aftermarket exhausts I've had on my truck, the JBA is by far the one with the least amount of drone.

Damn straight the 44! I want all the "drone" I can get if I'm going to pay hunders of dollars

Well, I tried with an air impact and as tight as I could with a end wrench but it was still loose and would move. Not a big deal though, nothing a tack weld can't fix!
I do like the way my truck sounds now and I am very happy with the performance.

Throw a 1" tackweld on all the slip joints and never have to worry about any of them. I paid $50 for the complete install with tackwelds on all the slip joints. I'm sure you will notice some drone after you get that last section on. Drone is annoying to some and welcomed by others. The JBA isn't as bad as the 18" Magnaflow I had on with a full tailpipe, but the JBA drone got annoying lugging up a hill at 1600-1900 RPM. After the cut, it is perfect for me.
