: Running the wires....
NKTITAN711 07-02-2005, 03:36 PM I have the factory system in the Titan (not R.F.) and I am adding a sub and an amp that I bought back in '98. I have an Orion Cobolt 150x2 amp and a 10" Orion sub that I mounted in a homemade box. I need to wire the thing up now, but don't know what I'm doing. Circuit City says it's $60 to wire it up, including an adapter of some sort that allows it to work with the factory head unit. This is the only decent place around to take my truck. All of the "radio shops" are real shady and I wouldn't trust these guys in my truck. Anyone have any help/advise/knowledge that you wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks...
jaysplaypen 07-02-2005, 07:45 PM 60 dollars is a good price if they do it correctly, I would ask how they do it, are they opening the dash and hooking up behind the radio, do the guarantee their work. Take a look at the interior mod section. I add subs and amp, and took pictures of wire routing under the carpet and places you can pop the wire through with out making new holes in the carpet.
I have had work done at Circuit City in the past and I plan on letting them do more work for me in the future. I would definately pay the 60 not to have to do it myself. They have pretty good shops usually.

NKTITAN711 07-02-2005, 11:10 PM Good deal fellas...$60 it is!
NKTITAN711 07-03-2005, 11:49 PM Nevermind my last. My girlfriend and I went into Circuit City tonight...and the truth was revealed. It's gonna be $70/$80 for the install itself. What they FAIL to tell you is that you have to buy their RCA cables and power cables etc. They won't hook it up unless you use THEIR stuff. Soooo, it'll be about $120 in supplies, plus the installation. But, the upside, is it is guaranteed for life and they'll take your stuff in and out for as long as you own the truck. So...I'll be waitin for a while. Just letting you know.....donations please???
goval 07-04-2005, 10:35 AM What I did was, I bought an aftermarket radio adapter($8.00/2 connections/withouth steering controls) connected it to the car wiring adapter, and only connected the power wires to the radio(12v ignition, system turn-on, illumination, dimmer, power antenna,...). Isolated the aftermarked radio speaker wires.
I bought some speaker wires and connected them to the adapter(speaker exits), and ran them from the adapter to my amp under my rear seat. Then I connected 2 RCA cables to my aftermarket unit. To power the amp is simple, you need a amp hook-up kit, about $30-90 depending on the voltage.
I ran the power cable from the battery to the amp using the plug hole in the driver side firewall, ran it under the side moldings and connected it the amp. The ground wire I connected it to the rear seat leg screw. using the same system turn-on wire for the radio, I just spliced another wire and ran straight to the amp. My sub, well you really should get another amp for it to get better sound, but I connected mine using 2 speaker connections on the amp(300w). Easy install using the diagrams that comes with the units. Sounds great!
Materials I used:
Speaker wires($8.00 roll), Amplifier wiring kit($50.00), isolating tape($3.00), zip ties($5.00), Nissan 00-03 radio adapter($8.00)
So yeah, you're going to spend about the same wherever you go, just don't go to best buy, they double the price.
I did it myself, because I happen to have all the materials and I only spent money for the adapter and the amp kit.
PrinceKheldar27 07-04-2005, 10:51 AM Hey.. Just bought my 05 Titan and love it. It is a HUGE step up from my F150. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the process they used to run a power cable from the battery to the rear of their cab. I'm a visual person and have to see it to understand it. I don't feel like messing anything up, but then again, who does? :) Great forums and hope to become a regular member here.

Good deal it worked for you, but he was looking for help, because he said he did not know what he was doing. I think he does not want to mess anything up. First you have to get the dash apart, then do the electrical, then put it back together. If he does not know what he is doing it might be bennifical to pay somebody to do and watch, so if they mess anything up they have to fix it not him.

nope no step one, step 2 pictures, that I can think of. But I can tell you the trim pieces at the bottom of the door frame pop right up, and you can run it under the carpet. There is a hole in the drivers side fire wall for coming into the cab, if you search the interior mod section I know somebody took a picture of the hole. As for the trim peices I happen to have a picture of them off, when I was doing my subs and had the seats out. so that kind of shows you the best way to get under the carpet. The carpet has many factory cut flaps for running the wire out from under without a new hole.
PrinceKheldar27 07-04-2005, 12:28 PM Sweet Sweet. thanks for the help. I've been looking around the forum trying to find a picture of the hole in the cab, I'm sure i'll run across it one day. Just a side question, the speakers in the rear doors are 6 1/2's, right? thats what they look like to me. And, do the door panels on the back just pop right out? Any tricks to help or hazards to be aware of?
jaysplaypen 07-04-2005, 12:40 PM pm me your email address and I will email you the section of the service manual that tell you how to get the whole interior apart.

Dude! Open your engine compartment, on your right side, note a bunch of cables in one bundle going through the firewall, right under that plug there's another plug, except that nothing is going through, pull it out, go inside the truck under your driver side dash, above the pedals, remove the carpet just a little to see the open hole(because you pulled the plug) run the cable from the battery going across the engine under the cowl, using some zip ties, tie the cable to the other cables going across untill you reacch the plug, insert the cable through it, and go inside the truck to pull it. Remove all the bottom side moldings on the driver side and the rear driver side, run the cables through there. The side moldings comes off easily by pulling it out, no screws. The middle pillar behind the driver side seat you have to unscrew the seat belt screw so you can remove the side molding there. Follow the diagram that comes with the amp for proper connection of the cables. Run all your cables around the same place. The ground cable you can connect anywhere that touches the body frame(to make it easy, any hard metal, I used the rear seat leg screw.
Ohh, and before you do anything remebe:
If you remove the center bezel, make sure your truck is off before you disconect the airbag light, and don't turn it back on with it disconected, or else you'll be making a trip to the dealer to re-set your airbag system for $70.00

hey prince if you happen to have this problem, you do not have to go to the dealer and pay them, that would be ghetto. In the do-it-yourself section we have a how-to for fixing the airbag light problem. So no worries, shy of shorting out your electical there is not much you can do wrong that somebody has not done already and figured out how to fix it. Good Luck.

Oh yeah, good thinking! Forgot about that!
PrinceKheldar27 07-04-2005, 10:31 PM Hey thanks guys,
I will begin working on that on Tuesday morning, bright and early. I don't have a really kickin' system but it works. I have a little " mini bass cannon " type deal with the little 8" sub and amp built all the tube dealie. I'm going to replace the back speakers because i think one is blown and im gonna just hook it up to one of those. This is how i had my Ford setup w/ its stock system and I had no worries, so i am pretty confident It'll be just as good here. You won't hear me down the block, but you will hear me outside your house :) I guess I could snap a photo so you all can see how good the advice is I was given. Thanks again.

NKTITAN711 07-05-2005, 01:48 AM As far as under the hood goes, there aren't many areas to which I feel uncomfortable. BUT, when it comes to interior looks and wiring of some sorts, I'm not afraid to ask for help. I may end up paying Circuit City b/c the work is guaranteed and they'll undo whatever they do, for as long as I have the truck. PLUS, you're right...if they break it, they buy it. If I break it, I buy it. Kinda like an insurance to have. All I need now is a coupon of some sort. :D Thanks for the advice though.
PrinceKheldar27 07-05-2005, 10:41 AM I've been thinking about the connections to the mini bass cannon I have and wondered if there is some way to fashion a quick connect type deal. I could solder the positive, the ground, and the speaker cable to one connecter on the sub and the other to the wires comming off the truck. If I need to remove it for some reason I could just disconnect a male/female adapter, similar to the scosche wiring harnesses you can buy. Make sense at all? nyone had any similar thoughts?
jaysplaypen 07-05-2005, 11:38 AM I have always built my own boxes, and I put a terminal in them so they can be taken in and out quickly. I don.t know if you can do that eith on the cannon, or truck side. here isa pics of what i am taking about. But if anybody has what you are looking for, radio shack would be the place.
PrinceKheldar27 07-05-2005, 02:27 PM I cannot find that hole on the drivers side. In the engine compartment on the right (drivers) side all I see there is the brake assembly. Is it above, below, right, or left of it? Also in the cab, do i need to take the dash apart? or Can i get to it, from underneath? Thanx
jaysplaypen 07-05-2005, 02:32 PM if you pull up the carpet under the pedals you will find it. So that would make it lower than the brake stuff
PrinceKheldar27 07-05-2005, 03:03 PM Does that also require pulling up the black stuff under the grey carpenting? I'm guessing so.
jaysplaypen 07-05-2005, 03:51 PM here I found a pic, not mine and not the best, but maybe it will help
