Does anyone have A dvd burner on there computer?
If you do what kind of software do you use.
Does it allow you to copy any dvd you want or just some of them?

I do have a dvd burner on my computer and a dvd recorder on my television. As far as software ,I use Roxio easy media creator-the digital media suite 7, which I highly recomend. Most dvd movies you buy are copy protected, which means they are not able to be duplicated. If you wish to make a copy of a store bought dvd, you need software to remove the copy protection before you try to burn it.ummm, so I hear

My son knows how, and copies every movie he rents. He will be here over Thanksgiving, I will have him pm directions to you if you want.

What I've been told is that you can't make a copy of the copy....you have to have the original.......which you should have since you're ONLY backing up the disks that you OWN, right?

My new Dell laptop has one but I haven't used it for DVDs yet. The software came with the computer and is called RecordNow by Sonic. I've heard that not all DVD-R discs are the same, something about positive and negative type discs. Anyone know more about this?

heh, its all good. I get that sometimes myself
Cal, dvd burners/recorders record om two formats + and -. Difference is that some older dvd players dont support the + format and wont play dvd+r. I was told that the - format is best for dvd movies. I know that my pioneer dvr unit will play + format, but my older toshiba player wont. It will however play movies in the - format. As far as the real technical stuff on the formats, I couldn tell ya in real detail. This is just stuff I found out when I was buying all my stuff, hope it helps.

...hope it helps. Thanks for the info. I'll check to see what my computer and DVD player can handle. I plan on transferring some home movies onto DVD discs this weekend so we'll see how it all goes down. My laptop also has an S-video plug for easy hookup to another video source.

So far what I have found out is that the + ones are the way to go. My computer that I have will only burn them on the + ones. so far it plays on every DVD player that we have in the house .
You hear diffrent stories from diffrent people but just from my own expierience is that the + dvd have always worked for me...

DVD-R format is more accepted by home DVD players from what I've read and found out through personal use. As for sofware, I use DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink and Nero 6 Ultra

Same here except I don't use Nero anymore...If I need to burn something that DVD Shrink won't do, I use Alcohol 120%

Most of the older home DVD players will accept - only.
I "hear" that DVD Decrypter is the most fullproof "cracker" out there. It is also easy to use.

Hollywood type dvd's are 9 gig. Store bought blanks (single layer) are 4.7 gig.

For a program to compress the cracked movie down to fit on one disk "1 click dvd copy" just cannot be beat. There are numerous ones on the market, some free, but @ $49.00 it is a steal!! The software author regularly updates it and their customer service is awesome!! It also comes with a bonus "copy of copy to dvd" which is a great general burning program.

I use the dvd decrypter and then the Dvd shrink and so far I've been able to burn every Dvd.

I gave up trying to figure out dvd shrink and went with 1 click.
Is there a GOOD guide somewhere I could download that you know of?
