ok, I want to keep the original stereo/cd player.

i need 6X9's for the front. and separate 3'' tweeters. and 6 1/2 rounds for the rear. Is this correct?

I was thinking about these speakers for the front.

INFINITY KAPPA 693.5i 6"x9" 3-Way SPEAKERS + TWEETERS
INFINITY KAPPA PERFECT 6.1
INFINITY KAPPA 10.7t 1" MMD TWEETERS

do you think these will be compatable. will i have a huge difference in the sound? I do not want to install an amp.

If you're willing to make a plate, you can put 6.5 in the front instead of 6x9

Those Kappas won't be very loud/punchy at all without some power going to them. Get a more efficient speaker if you're powering it with the factory cd player.

I was looking at the Polk DB speakers, or the Infinity Reference speakers myself.

I tried Infinity Kappa 4 ohm speakers ( not the same that you have listed) in the rear
doors & they did not sound as good as the stock speakers. No bass. So, I returned them.
I don't know much about audio, but tech told me
Infinity Kappas need much more power than stock.

You will have a hard time finding something to replace the factory speakers that will sound better while they are being powered by the stock radio.

If you you really want to keep the factory unit you should get a LOC to convert your factory speaker outputs to RCA's so you can add an amp to properly power the speakers.

What he said! I have tried the keep it stock approach and it failed. System actually sounded worse after the install of amp and aftermarket speakers. It's a pain in the ***. I tried the speakers first then added an amp and finally broke down and bought the HU.

The best thing to do is build your system with quality and if you must slowly. It will be worth it in the long run.

Here's mine and it was pretty inexpensive and sounded great.

HU- Alpine $265
Adapter kit$ 40
3" RF Full range $40
6x9 Pioneer Fronts $69
6.5 Pioneer in the rear $50
Alpine 2 way amp $80 (clearance from Circuit city)
Alpine 3 way type s 6x9 under the rear seats $69 (ebay)
Speaker boxes $15

Total: $630 and it sounds really great. Bass is deep and crisp and I can enjoy the music as it was meant to sound. It is not a bass pounder but it does not distort and sounds great.

I would definitally put some subs in under the rear seat instead of the 6x9s. Even if you don't want tons of base, some 8" subs will sound really good and give your system a more complete sound. Theres tons of 8" subs for cheap and that don't need all that much power. You could just get a 5ch amp and run everything off it. Nice and simple.

Thanks! That's something to think about...

How much work goes into replacing the tweeters in the dash? After replacing the other speakers with 6.5s and making plates for each I'm pretty darn tired of removing and making crap :) How do they come outta there anyway?

For the stock tweeters there are four clips if I am not mistaken that you have to pop out. I used a screw driver to pop the tweeter out. I fit 3" speakers in there after with some cutting. Nothing major. Total iinstall time was around an hour.
