Back in 2006 I wrote in this forum about a pretty positive experience I had with the service dept at Sheehy Nissan here in Manassas. I'm back 2 years later to basically rave about them again.

This time around I took my new Titan (like last time, not purchased at Sheehy) in for an issue I had discovered with my new truck. Since I bought my truck quite a ways from here, I could not go back to the original dealership to resolve the issue.

When I got to Sheehy, the service writer could not have been nicer and more interested in resolving my problem to my complete satisfaction. He even went to bat for me with the original dealership so I wouldn't have to.

Anyway, there's a lot more to the story, but I'll spare you the details. Suffice it to say I'm extremely happy dealing with Sheehy for service issues, and I can heartily recommend them.

Sign me one happy camper.

I'm glad someone has had a good experience there.

My husband and I have purchased 3 vehicles from Sheehy in Manassas over the past 9 years: 2 Maximas and 1 Frontier. I am sorry to say that we will NEVER return. We have noted a growing propensity for Sheehy to essentially make up problems with our vehicles, and our repairs have gone through the roof. In December we had the newer Maxima and the Frontier both in the shop for "routine maintenance". When they were done with all the things they "found", we were over $4000 lighter in the wallet. Now, only 4 months later, the Maxima started making a funny noise. We checked the oil and it was almost completely gone. Wait!!! Sheehy changed the oil when it was in the shop. That was 3800 miles ago. Yes, due for a change, but no oil??? It had to have gone *somewhere*!!! There was no leak and no smoke coming from the tail pipe. We put oil in it and the sound went away. Took it to Sheehy immediately, expecting that the seals had worn out and would need to be replaced and expecting another $2000 service bill. But instead, they claim we need to buy a new engine. It seems that they looked us up and we've only had the oil changed THERE NINE times in the 131K miles we have on the car, so clearly we have ruined the engine. HELLO??? We have the oil changed every 5-7K miles at another shop that is more convenient, and we put fully synthetic in it. We have babied this thing. Took it back to the place that changes the oil and they claim Sheehy is crazy.

Bottom line: I couldn't recommend Sheehy to anyone. Don't go there unless you like having your wallet raped.

Never trust somebody else to take care of your oil. Let them change it, then check the level before you ever leave the premisis. And check it again a week later. Sorry to hear of your motor being lost.

Good to hear of others good d ealings with Sheehy, I bought mine form their Annapolis store, and have been pretty pleased overall with parts and service dept both.

I think you missed the point. I'm not saying there's not any damage. I believe there is. But, we didn't "lose the engine". We don't need a new one. The "good" folks at Sheehy either LIED or they are grossly incompetent. Either way, I don't want to do business with them ever again, as this isn't the first time they've pulled something like this. We kept giving them "one more chance". This time they blew it totally.

Motor not lost, good. Still, as you posted, "We checked the oil and it was almost completely gone.", be sure to check more often. It would be quite normal to burn a quart in 3800 miles, maybe even more if 131K miles are on it. That is the most important thing. Hope that helps prevent losing a motor due to others error.

How much oil did you have to put in to make it full?

P.S. - Welcome to CT, I think you'll like it here! :)

We put a quart in just to drive to the Sheehy (Manassas). We subsequently took it to the other place and had the oil drained and replaced with the synthetic we normally use.

I should note that the car does not have a history of losing oil. Rather, it's been very good about keeping it (mechanically it's been a great vehicle!) Even if we did burn a quart (did I mention that there is NO smoke coming from the exhaust? My husband followed me the entire way home watching for smoke -- there simply was none) there still should have been over 3 quarts left. There was almost none, plus what was there was VERY dirty. It had the look of oil that hadn't been changed in 7-9K miles. In 3800 miles, it just shouldn't look like that unless perhaps the seals are breaking down, which is highly possible given the mileage on the vehicle. That certainly doesn't warrant a new engine, however. I do know that replacing all the seals would be very expensive.

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps Sheehy simply didn't change the oil, even though they charged us for the oil change and put a sticker in the window saying they did. I wouldn't be able to prove that one way or another. I've certainly never had someone cheat me on an oil change in that manner before. The place we normally use to change the oil always makes us come and look at the dip stick to show us the oil level before we leave the shop. Sheehy doesn't do that. In retrospect, we should have checked, but one does assume a level of competence and honestly. What makes me more angry is the "you need a new engine" garbage, based on their records of when THEY changed the oil and the assumption we never had it changed anywhere else. The guy even accused my husband of that. I promptly sent my husband to the other place where he got a copy of the oil change history for that car for the last 4 years. We did not "run the oil to the far limits of its ability" as the jerk at Sheehy accused.

I would get a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) done by Blackstone Labortories. They will send you a free kit, and you send the sample to them in the bottle they provide. It cost $22 to get done, and they email extensive results and commentary about 2 days after it is shipped in. I used to do mine every change, due to track use, and will return to doing it soon.

Interesting... I think I'll try that out. Thanks!

Although I didn't buy my truck from Sheehy, they done all the service that I don't do myself at their Annapolis location and with NO regrets I would recommend them to anyone. Zeek, the service manager(now promoted to a new location) went out of his way along with the rest of the service staff to keep my ride running flawlessly!!

Yeah, they used to take good care of us too, or so we thought. That's why we bought THREE vehicles from them. Keep in mind that we've been their customers since 1998!!! To say I'm disappointed is putting it mildly. Our experience with the 1998 vehicle with them was awesome, and we would have been customers for life. But what we found is that they'll take really good care of you as long as you listen to what they say and just pay the money. Unfortunate for them, we starting questioning some of the things they were telling us, cause it just didn't sound right. There are numerous issues, such as telling us that the expensive Bose CD player that was under warranty wasn't broke (even though it kept freezing up on play), that is, until it was no longer under warranty. Then it was going to cost over $800 to fix. Similar experience with the XM radio receiver. Failing us on a inspection when other places passed us under the same conditions. They cost us another $500 on that one. This latest issue was the last straw. I'm tired of giving them tons of money to make up for the great deal we got on the car.

the washington dc area has been getting crappy over the past years in customer service. I bought my 2008 from Chantilly Nissan and got a great deal but their service sucks and they forget about you. I take my truck to Browns Sterling Nissan and always recieved great service. The service rep is James. Now living in SC the Greenville area I have only two dealers to deal with, one is Upstate Nissan......no words can describe them as for service, they have no clue! thoe ohter one in Greenville is ok but too far for me.

I bought six cars from FairOaks Dodge in Fairfax City, they sold it about 2 years ago. Anyway I had a 2002 Dodge Durango and wanted to tade it in for a new 2006 1500 offroad. Well I bought the truck and took it home that day and on the way home a called Sirius to activate the reciever and cancel the on in my durango. The radio inthe new truck was CRAP!!!! didnt display the the song info or the station like the 80's on 8!!!So the next day I returned to the dealer about the crappy radio and upgrade it, the sales guy told me it cant be done. I argued with him until I pretty much said "give me my f**kin durango back, found my keys and left the dealership. I didnt finish signing the paperwork the night before and thats how I got away with it. Six cars and they didnt give a sh!t about customer loyalty. A few days later a friend of mine found out I was buying a new truck and wanted to buy my durango. I went to CarMax to make sure the price I was selling it for was right, about 10k for it. Next door was Browns Nissan, so I walked over and looked the the Titan, yep I was sold and took home a 2006 XE Offroad preferred package and a very happy Titan owner for 3 years now and on my second one.

I want to be clear that our beef is NOT with Nissan. We love their vehicles, and I would buy again. But not from Sheehy in Manassas. Other Sheehy dealers may be fine.

A positive thing I can say about the Manassas Sheehy service is that they do not forget about you. I appreciate it that I get a call when it is nearing the time for my service/maintenance. That is very helpful to ensuring the vehicle is properly maintained. We have gotten ALL our scheduled maintenances. What I don't appreciate is that lately every time I go in there, it costs me $2000. There's something wrong when that happens. I know times are tight and everyone needs to make a profit, but you don't make it by scamming your loyal customers. In the long run, you lose your customers. That's just stupid.

I'm the guy that started this thread, and I'm surprised (and sorry) to hear about your problems with Sheehy Manassas. Since my original post I've had more occasions to use their service dept, and I am still a big fan. I will certainly keep my antennae up though, based on your experiences. Times are tough out there, and who knows, maybe there are shady mechanics out there just trying to squeeze an extra buck or 3000 out of unsuspecting customers, just like the shady wall st'ers.
