: What to replace Toyo Proxes S/T with???

Hey guys -

As you can tell I'm a newbie here as far as posting. I've lurked here off & on for some time seeings how I'm the original owner of a 2004 CC LE Big Tow with full factory mods (you know....multiple warranty brake jobs, rear end replacements, A/C upgades, etc.). Anyhow.....

Over 50K miles ago I put on a set of Toyo Proxes S/T in 305/60-R18. There was a guy where I work that had a set on his Titan and he said he liked them. So I gave them a shot and have been very pleased with them. Sadly, now that time is drawing near for them to be replaced, it appears that Toyo is no longer making the Proxes S/T or S/TII in that size.

I know how this is gonna sound, but aside from the fact that I like the way the Toyo's have performed, I really like that brawny look of a 305 on my truck. And I'm trying very hard to avoid buying new rims just to get "that look". My truck does no off-roading but does do the occassional towing gig with a relatively light load of approx. 6000lbs. And the only real mod is a PRG 2.5 front spacer.

Any suggestions? I know that's a wide open question, but I'm truly at a loss as to what to buy that I can shoe-horn on to my stock rims that will give me a nice, quiet highway ride and have the brawny look the 305 Toyo's have.

Much thanks in advance. And BTW, I've appreciated much of the info I've gotten from this site and you guys.

Tom

I had the same problem - I had the Proxes S/T and I really liked the look of the tires but they wore down pretty fast. I wanted to get another set but they don't make that size any more.

I went with the Toyo Open Country A/T 325/60R18, but I don't know if they're too wide for the stock rims. I have aftermarket 18x9 and I think the stock are 18X8. They rub once in a while at full lock but it's not that bad. I think they ride a little better than the Proxes and the traction is better on wet roads.

Could you Please post a pic. of these tires on the stock 18" rims?

I got a quote on these same tires from my tire guy on Monday. He did not say if his distributor had old stock or not.

All, but one, of the tires I've seen in this size are M/T's or more aggressive A/T's in the light truck, LT305/60R18 size.

Found one P305/60R18 ... the Nitto Terra Grappler A/T which should have a nicer on-road ride. Probably not quite as smooth as the Proxes, but maybe. P305/60R18 Terra Grappler (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=40506&counter=5&ar=60&rd=18&sw=false&cs=305)

Thanks guys for the quick repsonses and advice. Being new to this forum, I'll see what I can do to post a photo or two (every forum has their own quirkie way of posting pics).

And I'll pop over to the Nitto site to give those Terra Grapplers a look.

BTW....in the event that SWMBO signs off on the appropriations bill for a new set of rims for my Titan, would I have more options by going to a wider rim and staying with the stock diameter of 18" or would going to a 20" rim be a better solution?
