I need new rotors on my 04.
I read some of the old threads and the Stillen big brake kit seems too expensive for me. What other rotors do you guys recommend? I do a lot of highway driving and I want quick contolled stops.
I read that the stock rotors are too small, and I just had my truck at the Midus shop and they said there was a grove cut in the rotors already. If I get new aftermarket rotors will they end up getting a grove cut since they will also be too small? Or are some of the aftermarket rotors better made than the stock rotors? I just don't want to have the same problem again. Is the Stillen Big Brake kit the only fix?
Thanks

I have had my DBA rotors for a while and is very happy with them.
Another option is to go OEM big brake upgrade.

I just broke down and went to the dealer today for new rotors. They reminded me that they knew of the brake problem, but that it was not covered by the warranty. I wanted to make sure I got the newer, larger rotors, and they were not really even sure that the new ones were the larger ones. If these new rotors start to shake, I will just go back to the dealer. The rotors were about 120 each, 200 for labor, 150 for pads. Seems like a lot for pads, but I wanted to get the whole thing taken care of. Afterword, it was a huge difference. I am pleased so far, no shake, we'll see how long it lasts.

The Updated Rotors are thicker, not larger diameter, as far as I know. 12.9" diameter before and after.
I got some nice Dimpled and Slotted Rotors from www.brakeperformance.com. You can get them with Semi Metallic Pads for about $200 Total. Excellent quality, machined in the USA. Black or Silver Coating too. Change to Ceramic Pads (Less Dust, but slightly less Grip) for $10 more.

HI Guys, sorry for the duplicate post. I couldn't delete either one.
I decided to order the pads and slotted dimpled rotors (4) from brake performance, It's the holiday and I can't call them. Two questions please:
1) Why does the rotor style change at 10/04 ? My truck has been in the shop enough times for judder. Always had factory rotor replacements under warranty. Pretty sure I got the updated rotors. My truck came off the line in July '04, so the earlier style is what I should order I guess? But what is the difference? All I can tell is the dealer installed newer style rotors. Also new pads. Truck has about 65,000 miles on it.
2) Won't the ceramic pads heat up the rotors more? I see the guarantee, but if they warp, it's still a PIA to replace them. I want what works best. Wouldn't the premium semi-metallic be a better all around choice, a good balance between wear, dust, and heat?
All of my factory pads look good, inside and out, yet my braking has deteriorated badly. There is a lot of judder as expected, and occasionally even grinding under hard braking. Some scraping noise that comes and goes, sounds like a wear indicator, but the feelers aren't close to the rotors.
I haven't measured the runout on any of the 4 rotors, but just feeling with my fingers, they all appear to be quite thin.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully I can order these today if anyone has time.
Thanks!!!!!!!!
