: All Terrain tires for Titan
LAfirefytr 10-18-2009, 12:41 AM I am currently running Terra Grappler AT 325/60/18 and very dissatisfied with their tread life. They are right at 25,000 and need to be replaced. I am 37 yrs old, rotate them every 4K-5K miles, and do not abuse them (burn outs, racing off line at intersections, ect). I don't know if I got a bad set or if this is the norm for their tread life as Nitto offers no tread life expectancy which leads me to believe they must not hold up well.
So with these not holding up at all, I'm in the market for new tires. I drive highway most of the time and offroad (trails, muddy roads) during hunting season (Oct-Jan) so I need a tire for both. I have been looking at Bridgestone Revo 2, Toyo open country AT, and Cooper AT. If anyone has these tires or had them in the past, what has been your experience? If anyone can suggest another brand I'm open for suggestions.
I am looking to run a 33" size and I'm even considering going back to a 17" rim to increase my tire sizing options. I have 18" Moto Metal 951 Blacks now but may get the 17's. I'm also not going with as wide of a tire this go around, something lil narrower but still in 33" size overall. Thanks......
NorCal 4x4 10-18-2009, 01:50 PM You might want to consider going with a AT that has a tread wear warranty. Most LT versions don't offer them, but the Goodyear Silent Armors do. I've seen this tire "in person" and it reminds me of the BFG A/T KO, pics don't do it justice. Btw, the KO has great tread life, but no tread wear warranty. The KO also needs aftermarket siping IMO, (they get very slick in the rain when they still have 1/4 of their tread left..
Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grade - w/50k mile pro-rated tread life warranty (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=31850&counter=9&ar=70&rd=18&sw=false&cs=275)
The Toyo A/T, tread wear warranties are only for 17" and below sizes ... 40K miles for the LT versions, 50K miles for their P rated ones.
For the stock 18's, in the LT265/70R18 size there are several P-rated AT's that offer tread wear warranties.

rpeles 10-20-2009, 06:15 PM Firestone Destination AT tires have a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty in the P metric sizes.
Renegade45 10-20-2009, 10:17 PM I have the 315/70/17 BFG KO AT's on mine, they have 24.5K, for the most part these things have very little wear showing. The tire has great road manners and is very quite, I highly recommend them. The Toyo's are great looking tires, and get good reviews as well.
LAfirefytr 10-21-2009, 09:20 AM Thanks Renegade and everybody else thats chimed in.
Discount Tire 10-21-2009, 01:14 PM Norcal makes a great suggestion, the Goodyear Silent armors would be a great tire for you. Also I would recommend looking at the Hankook RF10 ATM. Please let us know if we can help. Anyone here would be happy to put a quote together for you. 1.888.459.4080

The Goodyear silent armour is nothing more than a renamed Wrangler that has been around for years. I will have to say one thing poistive for Goodyear, they build the best square tires in the world. Ask Tony Steward about Goodyear. Plenty of information of Bad Year on this site. Nothing against Discount tire, just a haven't had the best of luck with GY.
nmbronewinner 10-22-2009, 10:43 AM Heck Im gettnig 50k out of my Toyo M/Ts I gotta imagine the A/Ts have got to do pretty good....and I like the way they look for an A/T.
WyoTITAN 10-22-2009, 01:18 PM You might try the new GoodYear Duratrac's. Probably going to put a set on next year.

LAfirefytr 10-22-2009, 01:52 PM Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it. I'm still looking at my options.
TightWhite08 01-07-2010, 12:54 AM So what tire did you go with LAfire?
i'm up for a new set and looking around. Got the Bfg all terrains in mind....
Timnagin 01-31-2010, 01:25 AM I have an ’04 4x4 LE crew cab without the off-road package – 18” factory rims. I have been looking at the BFG TA KO’s but not sure exactly what size to get to match the factory size tires. I want the BFG’s to be the same height and width as factory and not throw off the speedometer. Anyone currently running these tires on a stock configuration and have any opinions?
I have had at least three sets of these on my other little Nissan truck and absolutely love them.
Thanks.

Thanks. On mine a 33.5" tire was more accurate with the speedometer than the stock 33" tires, and I've heard others saying that too, but maybe there's a range +/- a couple of mph when it reads 60 .... truck to truck variation.
But anyway, the LT285/65R18 is the same diameter as stock P265/70R18, and only about 3/4" wider. That's not too wide, as even the Off Road package's 17x7.5" rims came with a 285, and they're a half inch narrower rim than the LE and SE alloys. So the LT285/65R18s would be a great match for the stock LE 18x8" rims. The other choice would be the slightly taller 33.2" LT275/70R18, that is about 1/2" taller, and less than 1/2" wider.
Timnagin 02-09-2010, 10:35 PM Thanks for the help! I will probably go with the 285/65R18 BFG AT's. Now if I can just figure out why the rear axle pops when coming to a complete stop and the rear settles.

I went with the BFG TA KO's and absolutely love them! The ride, handling, traction, everything is night and day from the Nittos. Only regret is I waited so long to get them. I got a killer deal on them and would tell you about it but the last time I made a comment on here about someone giving me a good deal I got reprimanded b/c they weren't a site sponsor. I have no idea if where I got the tires from is a sponsor here or not and don't base my buying decisions on that. But nonetheless, I would highly recommend the tires.

Sorry for the delayed update but I finally had the same BFG's installed on my truck. I loved them on my little Nissan truck but, like you, these tires on the Titan are a world of difference. I should have installed them sooner. They have a very slight roar to them on the interstate but it's barely noticeable due to sound-proofing. It's definitely acceptable for the performance increase and unless you are looking for it you don’t hear it.
I also noticed the speedometer correction. With these tires the truck is now dead on with my GPS. On a side note I have had at least four people notice the tires and say how good they look and ask if I had the truck lifted. That surprised me more than anything.
The installer set the pressure at 36 or 38 PSI. The side wall states 80 PSI(?). I think that would be far too rough of a ride. What pressures are you guys running in the BFG's?
Thanks in advance.
rpeles 09-27-2010, 07:57 PM LT tires are made for much higher pressures than P-metric tires. You need to run higher pressures to prevent heat build-up in the sidewalls. I asked several manufacturers, and only received one answer, which said not to run LTs on a Titan. Well, many of you do so that's no answer.
