thought i would write up a how to on the install of the transgo high performance reprogramming kit.

you will need:
transgo reprgramming kit, RE5RO5A-HD2
9 quarts of trans fluid
transmission assymbly lube
inch pounds torque wrench
foot pound torque wrench
2 rolls of paper towels
funnel
10mm socket
19mm socket
5mm allen socket
small screw driver or small piece of stiff wire
drain pan

Start by draining the trans pan from drain bolt, you will get about 3 quarts out this way.

next remove the 20 bolts that hold pan to transmission, becareful though because there will still be about 1 quart of trans fluid in bottom of pan.

at this point you will see this
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit001.jpg

next you have 2- 2wire sensors to unplug from valve body, let them hang down to the side
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit002.jpg

you then will use the this guide to remove specified bolts on the valve body to be able to drop the valve body out of the transmission. this is where you need to start to be very organized with where each bolt came from and the lenght of it (i made drawing of the valve body and layed the bolts out on it as to where they came from).
once all the bolts are out, there will be about another 4 quarts of fluiud that will start to spill out so keep the drain pan under it.
dont b to fast to pull valvebody down as there is 2 plugs that go through the trans case that our attached to the TCM, you have about 6" of slack to drop the VB down and undo the 2 conectors, then you can remove the VB and put it on your work bench.
here is the bolts to remove and the location of the connectors to undo
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage1.jpg
-note- the connectors shown on te last sheet is not where ours are located

here is what your trans will look like now
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit003.jpg

dont get out from under your truck yet though, you have a small tapered orifice to install into a hole in the transmission, here is where it is and it supplied in the transgo kit
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/installpage1.jpg

ok now the fun begins, take out your kit and get set up with the valvebody on your work bench
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit004.jpg

now you will be dissasembling the valve body to be able to install the shift kit

first you will remove specified bolts to remove the filter from valve body and put bolts in neat order as to where they were located. pull the filter off and set it to the side with bolts. when the filter is off you can use a can of brake cleaner to clean the screen and filter assembly
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage2.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit005.jpg

next you will be removing the manual valve body shifter and MLP sensor. start by unplugging the connector on the selonoid side of the VB, then remove specified bolts and set to the side. you then can pull the assembly off the VB but becareful as the is a check ball and spring in there.
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage3.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage4.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit006.jpg

next you will be removing the temp sensor, relief ball and spring, and the bolts holding lower valve body to upper valve body. lay everything off to the side in an orderly layout again.
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage5.jpg
here is what it should look like now
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit008.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit009.jpg

now you need to flip the valve body over with solenoids facing up, and remove last specifed bolt holding the 2 halfs together, again put all bolts off to side in orderly fashion as they are length specified. once undone you will lift the upper valve body and seporator plate straight up and flip it over to set the upper valve body off to side with solinoids facing the bench. BECAREFUL! there are chech balls, springs and filters every where now. you then can take seporator plate off the upper VB and place on bench.
now stop and take notes as to where all the filters, springs and check balls are located at.
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage6.jpg
lower valve body will look like this now
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit010.jpg
upper valve body upside down with seporator plate on top
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit011.jpg
now with seporator plate off to the side
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit014.jpg
and this is what your bench should look like now all nicely laid out
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit012.jpg

now your valve body is completely disassybled and the real fun begins!

start on your lower valve body, you will be removing 3 valves and replacing them with the 3 new valves in your kit with the 3 check balls and very small springs.
this is where you will be using the small stiff wire to remove the plugs, springs, and valves from the VB
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/installpage2.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit013.jpg
here are the old valves out with new valves installed. (yes i removed the spring from the smll valve)
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit015.jpg

onto the other side of the lower VB. you will be removing 4 more valves and install new springs provided by the kit but reusing the old valves.
this a tricky step as it is hard to get the new stiffer springs pushed in, hold them there, then reinstall the holding clip.
-note- i had the boost valve that required me to use the plain springs
put check balls and springs back in place where they came from, refer back to the notes you took
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/installpage3.jpg
here are the old springs that got removed and replaced with the new
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit016.jpg

now the lower VB is all done, time to drill out the seporator plate. you have 7 holes to drill with 4 different bits. line them up smallest to largest and drill out set holes with proper size drill bit.
once all drilled out, CLEAN ALL SHAVINGS OFF SEPORATOR PLATE VERY WELL!
i then used a bit off transmission assybly lube to hold 5 small filters in place on seporator plate
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/installpage4.jpg
there are 2 differnt styles of VB, i had the one with 3 check balls
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage7.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/installpage5.jpg

you are now done with the hard parts and its time to start reassymbly of your VB.
put seporator plate back on upper VB with all check balls in proper location on upper VB and the filters in place on seporator plate held in with assembly lube.
flip upper VB assembly over with seporator plate in place and set down on lower VB perfectly lined up so the filters go into the right spots.
you then will reassemble all bolts holding the VB together, making sure to use "J" bolts first to line up 2 halfs together with seporator plate in center
-torque all bolts to 70 inch pounds-
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage6.jpg

flip it over and reinstall these bolts, temp sensor and relief ball/ spring combo
-torque bolts to 70 inch pounds-
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage5.jpg

put manual VB assembly back on now and use a dab of the assembly lube to hold the check ball and spring in place
-torque all bolts to 70 nch pounds-
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage3.jpg

now put your filter assembly back on and torque down the bolts
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage2.jpg

now your VB should look like this and be all set to be reinstalled into the transmission
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit017.jpg
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit018.jpg

now take your new modified valve body under your truck. start by connecting the 2 connectors to the TCM and hold VB up in place careful to line it up correctly with manual VB assembly and revolution sensor into its correct hole.
tighten bolts finger tight first and make sure there are no wires caught anywhere. then procede to tighten bolts down.
-torque bolts to 70 inch pounds-
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/removalpage1.jpg
now your VB is back in, dont forget to reconnect the 2-2wire sensors back up with wires put into the clips
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit020.jpg

now take your drain pan and clean the bottom of the pan and remve the 2 magnents to clean them. put magnenets back in pan and reinstall pan onto the bottom of the transmission. tighten all bolts around pan finger tight first then tighten them to 70 inch pounds aftewards.
time to put 9 quarts of your favorite trans fluid in, make sure it is matic S or matic J compatible. i went with amsoil atf
http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af107/smokedya2/transgo%20install/titanshiftkit021.jpg

CONGRATULATONS you are now done installing your transgo shift kit!
before you drive it i would start your truck and let it idle for a few minutes and let it sit in P,N,D and R for a while to get air bubbles out of VB.
now its time to look for any leaks or check engine lights to come on, if none its time to take a easy drive and make sure it shifts through all gears and does nothing funny.
finally after all that checks out for about 10 minutes of driving its time to find out what your truck shifts like under power.
punch it and feel your new improved lightning fast firm shifts.
spend the next day or so trying to wipe the goofey grin off your face from your performance shifts.

ENJOY

This write-up is much appreciated. I am sure it will help a lot of people when doing the install and it will help some others decide if they want to just pay someone else to do the install instead.

Also, when that sleeve is pressed into the transmission itself, does IPT or Level10 do anything like that?

This is a truly amazing writeup! I want to do this so bad but the lack of tools and time are keeping me from doing so. This needs to be stickied.

GOOD JOB
.
If I may add, use a magic marker to lay out the separator plate before drilling, mark the holes and check it again. Then drill your holes. There is “NO” replacing the separator plate if you f-up. The drill bits width and length are progressive so the .103 is the shortest and the .136 is the longest (the width is in relation to the length). Also deburr the holes.

Update time!

well i had a nice day here today about 45* with some dry warm roads and decided to do some datalogging on the truck for 0-60 times. i now have about 1000 miles on the truck with the shift kit installed.

well first off i did about half dozen 0-60 logs all back to back using manual shift mode and they all were consistently about .15 to .2 seconds faster then my previous best times!! thats with good holding power on the clutches now and a fast firm shift gaining me that time. my 0-60's only go through 1 shift from 1st to 2nd. 1/4 mile times should be dropped about the same if not a tenth more for another fast shift.

well next i was pulling out of my secret roads in mexico and noticed a early 2000's mustang GT go flyin in front of me, i quickly chased him down and got next to him on a 4 lane road. he revved at me and i did it back, i knew he wanted some. we came up to the next stop light that turned red at the perfect time. i put her into manual shift mode and waited for the green. when the light turned green we both stomped on it, well i rolled into it to not spin, and both took off. i started to inch him out and was about 3/4 of a truck lenght ahead of him when i used manual shift and shifted into 2nd. all of a sudden my truck lurched foward with a small chirp into 2nd and continued to pull on him up to about 65-70 when we let off. its almost as if all the previous 0-60's had got my truck used to shifting hard and decided to show off for the mustang, it was so sweet, that was the first time ever that i have caught rubber going into 2nd, it was awesome. after the run he got next to me, rolled down the window and gave me the rock-on sign, he graciously took the beating without a nasty flyby.

afterwards i decided to head home and check my logs, but not before stopping to do a sweet burnout in front of my buddies house. well i put it back into manual mode and locked her in first, then punched it and watched the tires instantly light up and revs peg out. i then shifted it into 2nd and it hit so hard and fast that the tires continued to burn off and pull the rpm's up in 2nd gear. i have never been able to do that before either, every other time the shift is so slow that the wheels have time to stop spinning before i get to 2nd gear and then doesnt re-light them up in 2nd., just pulls me foward.

the shifting is by far a noticable mod to install when drivin in a performance fashion, in regular driving my wife doesnt even know that there is a shift kit in the truck because its nice and smooth.

i'll update again when i get more miles on the kit and am able to take it to the track and test it out properly.

I followed SMOKEDYA2's DIY thread and installed the kit today. It deffinately pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone but with this thread printed out on 11x17 sheets and the examples of how to stay organized the install went ok. After driving it around a while to heat of the tranny fluid to do a level check............I hammered on it hard and what a difference this kit has made.

Like I posted over on TT....the only part of the install that I problems with was the way the list was made for drilling the holes on the vb plate. The hole list did not follow the smallest bit to largest so you heve to be careful in that area but other than that the job that SMOKEDYA2 did was awesome and saved me the $250 that the shop here wanted to install the kit.
