Although I am a new member here, I'd like to suggest a few fluids that you folks can consider using for the Titans on this board.
Oil: As a general rule, from what I've seen, any 5w-30 or 10w-30 will do the job in this engine. Depending on the application though, you may need a thicker or more shear stable lube to not affect wear.
Transmission Fluid: Much debate about this topic, as Nissan specs their supposedly, proprietary Matic J ATF. The truth behind this fluid is that it is actually very similar to Dexron III (H), though I would not use it.
I'd suggest running Specialty Formulations Autoglide, Matic J ATF in this application. Specialty Formulations, custom builds fluids for each application, and we've had good results with their products over on Bobistheoilguy. They charge about $7/qt if you buy 2 gal or more, with occassional promos like right now, they give you 15% off the total order (incl. S/H).
If you're in a "hurry" and need to change your ATF, Valvoline Maxlife ATF is a good choice, but I prefer to stay away from fluids that are "peanut buttered" across the spectrum as they may not work well in all applications.
Transfer Case: Specs Nissan Matic D if I'm not mistaken. Any Dexron III (H) ATF will do the job here, though please note that once Dexron VI ATF launches, it may not be backwards compatible with Dexron III apps as Dexron VI is much thinner. If Dexron III ATFs are no longer found in the future, I suggest getting an ATF that is made specifically for the Matic D standard.
Front/Rear Differential: Despite what the manual says, I suggest a 75w-90 or 75w-140, if a 90 or 140 is called for, respectively. Good choices would be Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil Severe Gear, or Specialty Formulations.
Intervals:
Oil: Change oil initially at 1000 miles, then do two drains that are between 3000-5000 miles to clean up the wear metals leftover from the break-in period. Do not try extended drains >5000 miles until at least 10K, or when oil analysis tells you that the wear metals have dropped.
Trans, T-Case, Front/Rear Diff: Change fluid initially between 5000-10000 miles to remove manufacturing debris. Pan Drain ONLY. If you do not tow at all, change the ATF every 30K, if you tow, change it every 15K.
As for the T-Case and Front/Rear Diff, change it every 30K after the initial change.
