I set up an appt to get my already purchased speaker system w/amp installed in my King Cab and just realized the rear door speakers I have are 5x7's.

Can anyone tell me if these will work or not? I have a bad feeling i'm going to be buying new speakers tomorrow morning. Which I hate to do, these are JL Audio XR's which weren't cheap.

Thanks in advance!

I guess I'm confused....what size are you trying to put in?

Yeah??? If it don't fit, improvise, you can always buy some plywood and make an adapter

Nah, plywood would resonate too bad.

ah! The original is 6x9 right if I'm not mistaken? Well like I've said, improvise. But I think they have adapters out there. Ask them at the place where you are getting it installed.

Beat me to it!  They should have the adapter there. Some kind of polycarbonate stuff.

True, but some rubber or foam cushions would resolve the problem no?

Doubt it. Usually the resonance comes from the plywood layers themselves. That's why most "speaker builders" use some sort of pressed or medium/high density fiberboard (basically pressed together sawdust or small pieces).

Then again, a solid hard wood works well, too. And it'll change the sound tone slightly....my favorite it maple. It gives a SOLID "hit" with base and carries mids and highs very well.

Those are 6X9's in the back? Wow I could have bet it was 6-1/2"'s back there.

Well that's good news if they are 6x9's , I just hope the 5x7's give me enough bass.

Looks like i'll be adding a sub soon enough :D

the back ones are bigger than the front ones. I can't recall the size of the front ones, but they're smaller

That's on the Crew Cab, I don't know about the King Cab

Okay, I've decided to go to plan B.

I'm going to go to the audio store today and pick out a whole new set of speakers that will fit this truck perfect. I don't want to put undersized speakers in this and regret it. So i'm starting over and doing it right.

Man I loved those JL Audio XR Speakers. I have about $650 wrapped up in them. Welp guess i'll be selling on ebay soon.

Okay guys I just got back from the audio store after a high anxiety filled day. I always get like that when people I don't know are doing work on my car, especially when it involves tearing apart doors, the dash, and taking off the seats. :nervous:

After biting my nails all day long I am very impressed with the result, I spent twice as much as I planned but it was much needed and worth every bit.

I ended up with:

Headunit-
Stock everything and added a six channel line output converter which is a Audiocontrol LC6 which works much like a JL Audio Cleansweep but half the price and works as effective, though the cleansweep is a bit more customizable. The result, I was told, was the same minus a few controls. I was sold once I heard the difference, it sounded like a aftermarket high end head unit I was running.
Read more here: www.audiocontrol.com
I highly recommend this little module (or cleansweep) for anyone who wants to keep their factory headunit and throw in a new set of speakers and amps.

Fronts-
JL Audio XR650CSi's in the fronts (6-1/2" Components)
Soundstream Reference 500s Amp

Rears-
Diamond D361's in the rears (6" Coaxials)www.diamondaudio.com
Soundstream Reference 200 Amp

I popped in my tastey array of music of Tool, Gorillaz and Coldplay. Wow, just blown away by clarity and was very surprised by the deep bass response the Titans doors created (cheers to Nissan on that).

My 500s Soundstream amp is only turned up maybe a 1/4 turn on the gain because it's such a powerful amp which I might "choke" into a possible 10" single sub down the road. But for right now i'm a pretty happy camper. The installer was a great guy, did a outstanding job too, and he even bought my 5X7" Speakers I had left from my old car system! HAH! :D

MODS MODS GIMME MORE MODS! What's next, I need more!

Very cool.

What did the LC6 cost you and where did you get it from?

I bought it for $150 from www.horizonaudio.com in store, this is my local dealer here in town. I'm sure you can find this piece somewhere like onlinecarstereo.com or cardomain.com or crutchfield.com too.

Fronts are indeed 6X9" and rears are 6.5" as I have the stock speakers sitting 10 ft away from me.

Doesn't say speaker size in the manual.
I'm pretty sure that the only difference between the CC and KC is that there is no Tweeter in the rear door of the KC.
But someone with a KC could let us know.....

sounds good. I'm sure you'll want a sub in there soon to get that little ooomph. I have 4 6 1/2 subs and it's pretty nice but takes too much room so gonna do 2 8inch subs. A nice 10 will be good like you mentioned.
