Getting the following installed on Thursday....

Alpine V-Power Amp (4-channel 50w)
Boston Acoustic S-series 6x9's up front
Boston Acoustic S-series 6 1/2's in back

Just wanted to update the stock speakers and not be too showy...

Do you have the Rockford Fosgate system with the 6 disc changer? I'm debating if I should upgrade my systems with all Alpine stuff.
My next door neighbor is an electrical engineer for Alpine... he's a Program manager for Dodge (Alpine supplies DaimlerChrysler with their factory stuff).

I know that he's gotten me a lot of Alpine equipment @ 50% off retail price (employee discount) for my '03 Mazda Protege5.

No RF package for me, but do have the 6 disc in-dash. I like the aux input for my ipod. Like to control it actually thru the ipod and not the head unit as required by all other aftermarket head units....

Shoot.... if you're getting Alpine stuff discounted - you got no excuse not to upgrade......

Let us know how the install goes. Are you also replacing the head unit? I have heard the S-series from Boston and I was very impressed.

Let us know how it works out. I am seriously thinking about changing the speakers and adding an amp. I don't want to go with a full blown system since the benefit doesn't really outweigh the cost for me (I think I have a bit of hearing loss from my youth ;) ).

Please buy either the LC6 (http://mobileaudiocontrol.com/product.asp?Product_Id=31215&d_Id=5249&l1=5249&l2=) or the the JL Audio Cleansweep (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep_pages.php?page_id=79) if you are planning on keeping you stock headunit, this is an abolute must. The LC6 is about $150, the Cleansweep is about $300, same result, though the Cleansweep has a bit more tweak controls on it.

I just got mine installed last night....and I feel if I did or did not get that, it would have been a make or break situation. I put high end stuff in my car and didn't want to run those cheap line out converters, the LC6 is worth it's weight in gold.

Well... overall opinion is  Can't even tell I just shelled out $800 for speakers and an amp....

Gonna change out the Alpine amp for something that has better controls - probably going up to a JL audio. Also going to do a 10" sub and another amp for that.

I'm 99% sure they just put them cheap line converters in your setup. Ask them for the Audiocontrol LC6 or the JL Audio Cleansweep. I'm telling you man, 10 times better.

I'll ask them about the LC6 today....

Thanks

Just what exactly are you disappointed in? Not enough power? Interference? Engine noise? Muddy? Describe it so we here know what you're talking about, thus we could possibly suggest the best solution.

I am still sticking to my LC6 or Cleansweep suggestion, but you might be talking about something totally different.

Initially, there was too much bass coming thru the amp and it was really distorted - sounded like the speakers were blown or something. The install guy turned the bass down on the amp all the way and then it sounded like I hadn't done anything - sounded just like the stock speakers.

Solution - swapped out the Alpine - Vpower amp for a JL-e4300.

Going to add a JL Audio 10" sub under the back seat with a JL Audio 1400D mono amp. Was going to try the Infinity Basslink II, but it wouldn't really fit anywhere comfortably - too big.

Install being done right now.....

Took your advice and am getting the JL Audio Cleansweep installed right now. Should sound pretty *****in once that is done....

I had my stereo unit and speakers replaced recently by the dealership. Im not sure but it sounds like its lower than before as far as bass and output. Is there a volume control on the amp or somewhere I can maybe look at and turn it up! Also how hard or easy is it to install some subs in the rear using current set up?

If you keep the stock headunit , it's a must to run amps and an Audiocontrol LC6 or JL Audio Cleansweep. That is unless your Amp has a built in Line Out Converter, which some do now.

The stock headunit output is crap for aftermarket speakers unless you do an amp.
