I have a 05’ CC with the 6 disc receiver Rockford package and the imitation subwoofer supposedly made by Rockford (not). I want to upgrade but I’m debating whether or not I keep the head unit. Has anyone kept the head unit and just added an amp? What difference did it make?

See my post a few down as to what I'm adding this week. Really didn't want to replace the head unit. I'll let you all know on Thursday how it sounds.... :headbanger:

In my opinion the "head unit" is the center piece for your stereo system. Put it simply..... If you have a crappy quality deck you will get crappy sound.

BUT....i would say the average person can't really tell the difference between average to midlevel sound quality.

So if you are happy with the sound of your rockford system why toy with it. MIXING and matching of the stock system usually turns out to be a diaster as most of the stock stereo components were designed to work together in your vehicle.

This is the primary reason why i don't order the upgraded stereo package. For about the same cost to upgrade you can do your own install with components you prefer/trust and be much more satisfied.

Once again it just my opinion and experience. Hope this helps

FLTitan please take a second to read about what I just did with my stock unit http://clubtitan.org/posts6678-15.html

I kept mine, and it sounds like an aftermarket high end headunit still by adding the Audiocontrol LC6. Hope this helps!

i disagree with "whodatitan808's" comment about a crappy deck equals crappy sound.

speakers have a lot to do with it also. i could hook up some infinity speakers to my stock head unit and, given, it wouldnt sound as good as if i added an aftermarket deck but the sound would be significantly better than totally stock.

when i had my civic i kept the factory deck in and added some rockford speakers in the back only. the improvement from just the back speakers was awesome, sounded much better.

this is JMO though.
