: Need input. . .
Darth_Titan 09-01-2005, 11:23 PM . . .from those who have installed capacitors for their audio systems.
I found a good price on a 1.5 farad cap, so I figured I'd add it to decrease my headlight dimming and am hoping that it solves some other power-related issues. Heres where I need help:
I had no idea this thing was so big! I guess the pics online just didn't convey the scale. Anyway, my amp is mounted under the driver's seat, and the cap needs to be installed close by. Any ideas as to where (and how) to mount this enormous thing under the seat? Any suggestions are welcome.
goval 09-01-2005, 11:33 PM Best place I can think is behind the rear seat, so you'll have to get longer cables.
baseballfanz 09-01-2005, 11:58 PM Or on opposite side, under passenger seat.
Darth_Titan 09-02-2005, 12:16 AM All install guides I've seen for capacitors state that they need to be within 18 inches from the amp. It seems both of these suggestions will run me afoul of those guidelines. I MAY be able to mount it under the driver's seat in the front. It looks like there is some spare room up there.
littlebuddha19 09-02-2005, 06:52 AM Yeah, keep it close. If it will fit under the seat, the plastic mounting brackets are pretty wide and will keep it from moving around while driving if you don't feel like screwing it in. But a good idea would be to go and buy some velcro strips and stick them to the mount so it will attach to the carpet.
Good luck.

Hmmmm, 18"? I don't know man, What's the size of the amp and the capacitor? You got about 16"x16"x5" under those seats
Darth_Titan 09-02-2005, 09:08 AM If by size you mean power, it's 600 watts. If you mean physical size, it's big. I don't have exact measurements, but it fills the gap under the seat side to side with about 1/2 inch of clearance on either side.
rcantu 09-02-2005, 10:44 AM how many amps do you have installed? I know the factory battery isn't very strong so an upgrade there may be more helpful in the long run. Also what guage wire are you running to the amp? if it's 600 watts I'd say 4 guage.
here's my stinger 1000 battery made by Hawker.

I have an Arc 4150 pushing ~450 watts and arc 1500xxk pushing ~ 600 watts and no dimming.
baseballfanz 09-02-2005, 03:56 PM What about room above the amp itself, is there room there? Maybe attached under the seat itself and let it ride back and forth over the amp when seat move. I hope you guys know what I'm trying to say.

That's not good for the amp since they put out a lot of heat.
A cap will work just fine. No battery upgrade is needed.
titantalker 09-02-2005, 08:38 PM Any luck finding a place?
Darth_Titan 09-02-2005, 09:19 PM Wow! Lots of response! To those that care, I did some wallowing around in my floorboard and determined that there was more room under the front of the seat than I thought. Not only that, but there's a metal plate under the front part of the seat that had the perfect clearance for the cap. All I had to do was punch 4 small holes in the metal to screw in the brackets. It's a tight fit, but the seat mechanisms still have enough clearance to work properly. An added benefit is the cool blue LEDs that shine on my feet at night. If I drop something while I'm driving, I can find it no problem now!
rcantu 09-02-2005, 11:10 PM just be careful that the positive wire doesn't cut into any metal or you're going to ground it and it will smoke.
good thinking though.
twizted 09-12-2005, 10:58 PM Be careful with that capacitor - you can KILL YOURSELF with those things!
On a side note, a single amplifier install only needs a 1/2 farad capacitor. I used to run a 1 farad capacitor with 2 US Amps, 4 x 10" Subs and 4 x 6.5" Eclipse Mids/Highs with NO problems at all in my chevy truck. I could never make the lights dim and the voltage was constantly reading 14.x while the car was on and the stereo was bouncing the windshield wipers :)
