: Head unit won't fit?

I previously installed my Alpine head unit using Scosche's crappy kit. I decided to order the XE bezel so I could put my hazard switch and airbag light back where they go.
However, apparently the opening in the factory bezel is a bit smaller than the bezel in the Scosche kit. Now my head unit doesn't fit! I kind of thought that single din sized head units were a standard size, and I know that there are lots of you here with aftermarket heads in the XE bezel. Has anyone else run into this, and how did you solve it? Am I going to have to bust out the dremel tool?

Took me a while to respond, as I've been experimenting. The problem is not really that the head won't fit. It will fit if I install it before I put the dash bezel in. The problem is the head unit's trim piece that covers the area around the head. Here are some pics of what I'm talking about.
The first pic shows why the head has to be slid into place before you install the dash bezel.
The second pic demonstrates why the head's trim piece just ain't gonna happen.
The third pic shows my problem. I'm not happy having the edge of the mounting sleeve and the head's locking mechanisms exposed. Maybe a new mounting kit would be the solution?
Please help guys this is kind of ugly and makes me install look less than professional.

I have the Scosche and an alpine deck and dvd player below it. I have gaps on the both sides. No kit was used. The trim plate won't fit either.

can you mount it before the bezel and look for a smaller trim plate? There should be some generic that may help.

good luck

I'm trying to get my hands on one of the Metra kits 'cause I like how they look better. Hopefully it comes with a generic trim piece. Otherwise, I have no idea where to obtain a 'generic' trimplate.

Yeah, the deck goes in first and then the dash bezel.
Most decks come with 2 trim pieces(1 flat and 1 dome shaped. The flat one is what you need. If you installed the deck then you should have the other trim piece. Maybe still in the box.
If not.... Then it's pretty much up to you.
Maybe an audio store has one that they didn't use. They don't sell it by itself. Or maybe the manufacturer has a part number.

The trim pieces are usually name brand specific.(cliping in specific spots).

Yeah, I just found this item (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra-1-4-Universal-Plastic-DIN-Trim-Ring-89-30-0250-/sem/rpsm/oid/10344/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) at Circuit City.com (also available in 1/8"). It would probably do the trick, but seems a bit pricey for a piece of plastic. I've been looking around for he Metra 99-7405 install kit and just ordered one from AudioOutfitters.com. I like the look of that kit better anyway, and hopefully it will have all the parts I need.
I appreciate everyone's input.
