: Will a lift void my warranty?

I really want to lift my truck with the 3"front 1.5"rear leveling kit and add rims and tires. Will this void my warranty with the dealer?

Also...the rims and tires package I was looking to use is Mickey Thompson ATZ LT325/60R18 (33x13.50R18LT) on MT classic 18" rims http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/truck.html . Will they fit? I saw someone posted a tire size calculator here---> http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html and it's seems strange to me that a 33" tire on a 17" rim is smaller than a 33" tire on an 18" rim. Am I wierd for thinking that? Also the calculator only allows for a 325 max. I can't try any sizes higher to see if they will fit.

Anyone know of another calculator that will work for truck size tires?
Any help would really be appreciated.

Ohh...one more thing. Any 808'ers out there can help me find a local source for tires and rims, or who is reputable for shipping out to Hawaii?

It is my understanding that a lift will void the warranty on parts that the dealer (or Nissan) can show failed as a direct result of the lift. I looked in to this and spoke with my local dealer before I went ahead with the lift on mine. It's actually being done now and should be done Friday.

I've heard others here and at TT postulate that a dealer could claim that your new rims and bigger tires put more wear on the brakes and drive train, thereby voiding those warranties. While this might seem at least plausible, I've not heard of anyone who actually experienced this.

Having said all that, I've not heard much of anything from folks who have had lifts, then failures of suspension components.

My primary concern were the brakes and rear diff, which are the two weak spots on our truck. I got the new brake kit last week and my dealers service manager told me he didn't see how a lift or bigger tires could be the cause of a blown rear diff. I also have the 05 with the aluminum diff cover, so I'm less worried about this.

That's my .02 on the subject anyway.

Regards,

John

Here's a link to a post about Warranty Coverage & Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (http://www.nissantitanforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=151).

In short, your warranty may never be "voided." You can be denied warranty coverage on a certain component or system, but your warranty can't be voided.

Aftermarket parts are not warrantied by the OEM manufacturer or it's agent (dealer). OEM components which have been damaged as a result of the installation of aftermarket parts need not be warrantied, provided the warranter (dealer) can prove that the damage resulted from the aftermarket parts. The onus lies on the dealer to PROVE that the damage to the OEM part or system is a result of non-OEM parts.

Great Job Austin, this must be one of your favorite subjects.

How wide are the wheels?

Some 33" tire will fit without a problem, but it all depends on the width of the tire/wheel and the offset or backspacing of the wheel. With the wheel set out too far or with too wide a wheel/tire, you get rubbing while turning on the side you're turning into. For instance, if you're turning right, the outside of the right tire will rub the inside of the fender liner.

I wouldn't put a 13.50 wide tire on anything less than a 9" wheel.

It's not strange at all that a tire on an 18" wheel has a larger or smaller diameter than a tire on a 17" wheel. It all has to do with the sidewall height. In your case - the sidewall is 60% of 325mm, which is 195mm or 7.7". Multiply that by 2 and add the wheel diameter, and you have a rough estimate of the tire height. 195mm X 2 + 18" = 33.3".

Another thing you have to remember is that 10 tires of the same size, from 10 different manufacturers, will be 10 different actual sizes. Metric sizing (325/60) is usually more accurate than flotation sizing (33x12.50), but none of them are exactly what they actually should be.

Another huge Mahalo for your help. It's helping me understand the different codes. One more thing.....I know  I'm a pest...but.... If you could answer another question that would be great. What's the bolt pattern for our TITAN? and how can I understand backspacing and offset better? I know...that's 2 questions.

I am thinking of switching to a 16"x10" rim so I can have a better selection of tires to choose from. I want an agressive look but am not able to lift the truck a full 6", so I want to fit wider, but not necessarily higher tires.

Your help is greatly appreciated :notworthy:

Our bolt pattern is 6x5.5" or 6x139.7mm.

Most 16" wheels won't fit. I've heard someone found a model that fits, but I don't remember the brand, and I never saw a picture.

Offset refers to the distance of the mounting surface of the wheel from centerline of the wheel. Positive offset moves the wheel/tire further into the wheelwell, while negative offset moves the wheel/tire further away from the wheelwell - negative offset gives a wider stance.

TireRack and DiscountTire both have good tech pages:

Will the warranty void the rear diff problem if your truck lifted?

Mine has 6" lifted. I hope I don't have to deal with rear diff problem.
