Just got 2 12'z, JL W3'z and a JL 1/1000 amp installed in the titan but kept the stock head unit. I'm starting to think that I should've just keep the system stock. The sound quality that comes out now is pretty crappy to say the least. The bass hits hard but I just dont have enough coming out of the highs. Pretty much all I hear is boom, boom, boom unless I turn the radio volume up to like 25, then I can actually hear some distinctive sounds. Should I get another head unit or another amp for my highs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

yeah if your running a mono amp with that much power the bass is going to just smash the highs! You could turn the bass power down at the amp.....
But it would be best to have a powerful 4-channel amp or run two...if you run two you'll probably def. want a capacitor.
I have a Sony Expol 4-channel 600 watt amp....channel 1-2 runs all my highs and 3-4 is brindged...sounds pretty good this way.

If you are putting that much power to 2 JL subs then you MUST put an amp to your mids and highs. Once you do this then you will be totally amazed at what a difference you made by spending a few hundred extra bucks.

I tried turning the bass down on the amp but that didn't work, or maybe i turned the wrong button....lol So I don't have to change out the head unit? Thanks.

The head unit is fine. It would sound a little better with an after market unit but in your case you need an amp for your mids and highs. Later you can upgrade to an aftyermarket unit. You probably will fine that you will like it without the aftermarket unit.
I am keeping my factory unit when I do my stereo.

Look into the JL Clean Sweep, supposed to be real good at turning a stock head unit to good quality pre-amp signal.

Do you have the premium RF system? A JL 1000/1 amp and 12" W3s is way too much for this system. I added a 250/1 and 2 8W3s in a custom box I made myself to exacting specs. Then set my imput sens. to the max unclipped power level. That setting stays where it is, but I tweaked the filter frequency & boost to balance it to the stock system, and right now I've got the filter frequency at 65hz and bass boost at +3db. It sounds great. I think in your case you should upgrade the whole system to match that powerful sub system. You can keep the factory HU, just get a LOC, new amps & separates. How in the world did you fit 12" W3 subs? They require 1.25 cu. ft. per driver in a sealed enclosure, and 1.75 cu.ft. in a ported box. Also, how do you have them wired? That amp is stable from 1.5 to 4 ohms, so if you have D2s you could only wire them in series for a 2 ohm load / D4s in series for 4 ohm load / or D6s in parallel for a whopping 1.5 ohm load.

Aye, 1.25 cubes each is a bit much for under a seat :) But who knows how it was done. By my calculations you can do 1.05 cubes x 2 subwoofers pretty easily with 5/8" board - and possibly with fiberglass and a good custom fit you could get 2 x 1.25 cubes under there :D
I'm going with .703 cubes per 10" sub for my setup.

I agree on the power. you can wire your 2 subs in series for now. the amp should run less power to it than it would from 1.5 to 4 ohms. the sensitivy is what you can turn down and also since you have a stock radio, you may have it wired to a LOC unless that amp takes speaker inputs. If you do have a LOC you should be able to turn down the output to.
This is only temp until you can upgrade your speakers and amp.

It all depends on which 12W3's he has and how they are wired.
12W3: 4ohm+4ohm DVC x 2 all Parallel = 1 ohm Mono
12W3: 4ohm+4ohm DVC in Series x 2 Parallel = 4 ohm Mono
12W3V2: 2ohm+2ohm DVC x 2 all Parallel = 1/2 ohm Mono
12W3V2: 2ohm+2ohm DVC in Series x 2 Parallel = 2 ohm Mono
Regardless of how it is run he should be able to tune the system to the level of base he wants using the POT on the side of the amplifier or line driver :D
