: JBA Exhaust installed

12-18-2004, 06:52 PM
Just finished installing my JBA system. Overall the install wasn't that bad except for the two stubborn nuts on the drivers side resonator flange. I tried vice grips, nut cutter but nothing worked. The instructions say to remove the exhaust from the resonators back then remove the resonators by themselves. You can remove the whole system including resonator all at the same time. The sound is nice and deep although a slight drone around 1500rpm - 2000rpm. I can tell a difference via the butt dyno not too mention that the delay / bog at take off is gone. Before I could never spin the tires from a dead stop unless it was wet but that problem is history  While out testing the new system I decided to open her up from a stop. While in 2nd gear around 4000rpm I hit a small dirt patch which caused the rear to let loose. This is definately money well spent ($355 shipped).

I just e-mailed a vendor on ebay, of the eurostyle antennas like I have, to see if the ones they sell will fit the Titan. I'll let you all know when I get their response.

Great to see someone else got it first.....he, he, he

Didn't get any pictures or sound clips but did get the dreaded CEL today. After driving 25 miles the CEL came on. I retreived the code (1283) Bank 2 (A/F sensor 1 Lean Shift monitoring). Anyone have this problem?

Not sure. Maybe try to reset the computer. May just need to adjust to new system.

I hope that's the case. I came across someone else who encountered the same problem with the JBA. I also believe this is the same problem Dale (JetTech) ran into whe he replaced his resonators with straight pipes. For everyone reading this, I am not pointing the finger at JBA in the least. This problem can be found on other's trucks not running JBA. The cure might be some O2 sims.

All, I just pm'ed slurp what's up with his SES light coming on. This is not a problem and it will eventually go out. Maybe later on this evening I'll try to explain further as to what's happening with his SES light coming on if anyone is interested.

Please explain JetTech.......

Let's see if I can do this before I get home tonight. 1273 and 1283 are left and right bank lean shift codes. Basically what this means is the computer is getting a rich signal from O2 sensor S1, from this code it sends a lean signal to the MAFS and throttle body. It then waits to see if the mixture is leaning out from the S1 signal. If it takes too long, or is not leaning out, the computer will trigger one of these codes.

So in a nutshell the engine is running rich and the computer is pissed it can't lean it out, so it decides to cop an attitude and turn on an annoying little yellow light on the dash.....

The computer will learn the new mixture settings in several weeks when it gets the long term fuel trim stable and consistent.

Oh yes, and this will happen anytime you remove your cats/resonators and install anything that is basically straight thru or freer flowing. It will ALSO do this if you reinstall the factory stuff, but again it will learn the new settings in a couple of weeks. Why it takes so long I don't know.

You soo smart lol. Thanks for the explanation I was figuring it needed to relearn but I didn't know the technical stuff behind it. Thanks for the great explanation that even I could understand.

12-20-2004, 05:32 PM
I assume that it's safer for it to run rich than it is to run lean? How bad was your gas mileage affected O' Wise One of the South?

JetTech
12-20-2004, 05:37 PM
who knows about gas mileage. With the awesome sound comes heavy right foot, which of course means I don't want to know....

Yes rich is fine until it learns the new settings.

Great pics I love to look at this stuff. I am thinking of getting new tips for my exhaust the ones on there are not rolled tips I like the rolled look. Mine seem to be wanting to turn colors on me already too. Gibson has some nice ones I might get. Intercooled tips http://www.gibsonperformance.com/products.asp?pid=19058
If Bill sees this post maybe he can post a picture of the ones he has from the Gibson Exhaust they donated.

I just remember handling the Gibson Tips and really liking them. Then boxing them up and sending them to BiXLL for the review. I really liked them. They were heavy and felt like they were really high quality.

I have had the JBA cat-back installed for about two weeks. I didnt have any warning lights come on. Thank goodness or my fiance would have flipped because its her truck. I think it sounds Ok I just wish it was a little deeper. I bought the JBA exhaust because they are the only ones who have headers out. I think my fuel economy has gone down but I'm not sure yet. I got mine shipped for 282.00 from proficientperformance.com they had all JBA exhausts 50.00 off.

I guess I just jinxed myself as my check engine light came on today on the way home from work. I've already made an appointment to have it looked at on tuesday. Im not sure that I'm going to take it though.

Use the manual process and retrieve the code yourself.

Did it come with the "y" pipe? I may go this route next week. Whadya think?

Sorry for the late response. The kit included the Y pipe. The kit replaces everything from the rear O2's back.

Does the JBA cat-back roar at Freeway speed??? How's the overall resonance inside??? I'm no youngster anymore so now I am more interested in the performance gain than the cool sound. :)

Actually it's pretty quiet. I've found myself cruising at 85mph and not thinking I'm going that fast since I can't really hear the exhaust. About the only times you get resonance is when you are in D and driving pretty slow and you give it gas and it "bogs" if that makes sense.

wooo, whhhooooo!

Got it in and put it on Saturday Morning! Yeah, it's louder and much more throaty, but I haven't noticed and performance gain yet, as I figured. Maybe after a 100 miles or so, I will.

Anyway, I'm excited!

Still need to take it and get everything tack welded.

All it all, it took me about 1.5 hours with my 2-yr old helping

Slurppie (or others that have JBA)...have you been able to tell any noticable gains/losses in gas mileage since your JBA install? I know in a previous post you mentined that you couldn't tell yet. Im looking at exhausts mainly for an improvement in that area (after you get done stomping on it to hear it). Even just 1 mpg is well worth it. Thanks for any info

Well, man, it's HARD to keep my foot out of it! I LOVE THIS THING!!!! Anyway, I didn't even check the first tank...after the second, I did notice between 1 & 1.5 increase. But, I check every tank, so I'll keep you posted!

By the way, did you see the Raffle we're having on that setup? It's on the Home page.

02-18-2005, 01:44 AM
Well I'm averaging around 15-15.5mpg and I travel 38 miles to work each way and it's all stop and go traffic.

Curious why you fellers chose the JBA. I'm stuck between Gibson or JBA. They look similar. Do they sound similar? My stupid laptop speakers make them all sound the same and I KNOW the flowmaster 50 doesn't sound like a gibson!!! Hell....with $30 and a little luck... my decision might be made for me

02-19-2005, 01:46 PM
Well I wanted to be different not too mention that the JBA was in my price range. I also like that JBA replaces the resonators on 4x2 models which is an area of restriction. I think both kits are of quality so it's just a matter of taste. Some like having dual outs where I like just a single output. Looking at my dyno, I can say that the JBA kit works.

firecracker
02-19-2005, 02:28 PM
For me it was about the price.

I think the performance of both is pretty much equal.
