: About 2G's in and starting to get P.O'd
Ok... I started off just wanting to replace my stock door speakers with something a little better and now it is just way out of control. Here's what I currently have:
Boston Acoustics - SX series in the doors
MB Quart Tweeters - on the dash
JL Audio - 10W1v2-4 - 10" Sub
JL Audio - e4300 amp
JL Audio - e1400D amp
JL Audio - Clean Sweep
Had the clean sweep installed yesterday because it still wasn't sounding right with the stock head unit. Picked it up yesterday and now it sounds worse and to boot, my airbag light keeps flashing now.
My front door speakers still make this "popping" sound like they are blown or something. The sales guy keeps telling me that they are supposed to be pretty good speakers. I think i'm going to insist that they replace them with something different.
The install guy said it was the first clean sweep he has installed and it was hard to calibrate since I didn't leave my iPod with him. I'm taking it back in there this morning to have it calibrated correctly and the guy said he was going to call a JL audio rep.
I'm at the point that if it doesn't knock my socks off when I pick it up this afternoon, that I'm just going to have them rip it all out and put my stockies back in there and give me my money back.
got_titan 09-23-2005, 11:16 AM sounds to me like they dont really know exactly what thier doing. make them fix it!
BroncoAZ 09-23-2005, 11:27 AM Sounds to me like you just need to ditch the POS stock head unit and the clean sweep. That setup should sound great. I'll be starting my install as soon as I get my truck back from the paint shop.

Maybe you should go and make installer, and sale's man lights flash before there eye's :machinegunner: :machinegunner: :chainsaw: :chainsaw:
The Aux input of the CleanSweep does not go through an EQ circuit so it's calbration has nothing to do with your Ipod. It's obvious that your installer does not understand how CleanSweep works.
Please contact JL Audio with the dealer name or have them contact us directly.
There is nothing wrong with the OEM deck. Most aftermarket decks would be a lateral move at best.
If the speakers are popping, it's most-likely poor attention to sensitvity setting. Ask your installer to set the amplifier sensitivity as outlined in the Owner's Manual and your problems will go away (unless there is a major installation issue).

Awesome to get a response from a JL person. The installer is going to contact you guys today to get a better grip on this. If he still can't figure it out, I may just mess with it myself.

Wow, your still around. :dance2:

The cleansweep senses the output voltages of the HU, or external oem amp and automatically calibrates to correct the imput signal voltage to the aftermarket amps, but as JLTD said, the imput sensitivity of the amps must be adjusted by metering the ac voltage at the speaker outputs of the amps to attain the correct target voltage according to the impedence of the speakers. You play a test tone sinewave at 0 db and desired frequency to be amplified at 3/4 volume (with bass, treble & loudness settings at 0) and adjust sensitivity dial to set the maximum unclipped output level. This could be why the speakers are popping, but maybe not. I hope it works out for you, because all the equipment you're using should have no problems with compatability.
twizted 09-24-2005, 04:27 PM I hope they are only sending high frequencies to your tweets! (Wait, can they be that stupid?)
Sounds nice now, but is my iPod supposed to run completely on its own now? I can have the head unit off and still play the iPod.
Blue_Water_Rush 09-24-2005, 10:47 PM Yes, if you are using an aux imput in the cleansweep for the ipod, then the amps are sensing a music signal at the line converter from the ipod and are powering up. Then I guess you just use the volume adjustment on the ipod. Did you try to use the aux jack in the dash? I am curious to know if it still works, and how it sounds compared to the aux imput of the cleansweep. How do you set your bass and eq controls if the HU is not on? This is strange...

That's what I'm trying to figure out....??? Sounds good the way they put it - probably shouldn't screw with it now that's finally right.....
twizted 09-25-2005, 12:59 AM But you have to ask yourself - is it actually right now? Or wrong, but sounding right.
tjmutlow 09-25-2005, 09:29 AM I run Orion 6x9 in front door 6.5 orion in rear door, infinity tweets in the dash and rear door, Alpine mrv-f545 4channel and Mrv-f605 mono amp on two JL 12w1 subs, everything sopumnds fine, but I alos use a pioneer DEH-P 90hdd hard drive radio.
But you have to ask yourself - is it actually right now? Or wrong, but sounding right.
That's probably a more accurate description.....
rcantu 09-25-2005, 01:37 PM if you ever pass by Orange County I don't mind taking a look for you. I'm not a pro but an avid hobbyist. I've taken my truck's interior apart so I somewhat familiar with that and have a decent ear.
StriKing_Cobra 09-28-2005, 02:47 PM Jeez sorry to hear about your luck, it sounds like your installers didn't know how to dial in the Cleansweep correctly to me.
It's all good now - just thinking about relocating the master volume switch. Anybody else have the JL Cleansweep? If so, where did you put your master volume control?
