: Pro Comp or BFG All-terrain
Brktwnazn 11-04-2005, 10:02 PM I can't decide what tire to use the pro comp all-terrain 33-12.50-17 or the BFG all-terrain KO 285-70-17. I've got a prg 2 1/2 and 1 in the back. Any thoughts? I like the bfg look better but the pro comp is a little wider which i want.
firecracker 11-04-2005, 10:11 PM Both are good tires. Dunno...personally, I prefer the ProComps.
Conberg 11-04-2005, 10:17 PM I have that size of BFG AT's on my truck and they are awesome. The only thing is that the sizes are a little hard to work with for a stock or small lifted titan. I have a 2.5" front level kit on mine and sometimes the tires look a little smallish. Its your call, do you want the tires to fill up the well more, or do you want the BFG tread? I went with the BFG and havent had second thoughts about it since
docopharm 11-04-2005, 10:30 PM ProComps are a good tire but I prefer the look of the BFG myself - more agressive tread pattern. I have yet to hear anything bad about the BFG AT/KOs. Everybody seems to be happy with them. I would have them on mine if they offered it in the right size.
Brktwnazn 11-04-2005, 11:06 PM thanks guys i think i might go with the wider pro comp tire especially since they come with a 50k warranty. I'll post some pics tommorrow when i get them put on.
misery-tom 11-04-2005, 11:14 PM with the prg lift you could clear 315-70 BFG's, thats what i have, without the prg, they fit ok
jojo4x4 11-04-2005, 11:56 PM I love my ProComp Xterrian's 35's
Kingoftheroad 11-05-2005, 11:52 AM I don't have any experiences with the ProComp tires BUT, I've had BFGs for many years on my trucks and I've never looked back! The BFGs would be my choice, thats why I'm glad my Titan came with BFGs.

315 70s fit just fine? They don't rub at all?
misery-tom 11-05-2005, 01:46 PM very very little on a full- unlevel turn, can be fixed by heating up the plastic wheel well at the rear of the tire and just pushin it back a little
ImissMy92Pathfinder 11-05-2005, 02:06 PM Tom, do you have any pics of a side view of your truck with these tires on pavement?
misery-tom 11-05-2005, 02:52 PM i sure do but fer sum reason this section wont let me upload the pic lol, ill PM it to u
NorCal 4x4 11-05-2005, 03:25 PM I can't decide what tire to use the pro comp all-terrain 33-12.50-17 or the BFG all-terrain KO 285-70-17. I've got a prg 2 1/2 and 1 in the back. Any thoughts? I like the bfg look better but the pro comp is a little wider which i want.
I recently got the BFG AT in the 285/70/17 on the stock OR package's rims. Like them but the Rugged Trails are a better riding on road tire, since they are an all season passenger designated design. If they didn't wear out at 20,000 miles or so, or I was really rich, I would continue to run them.
I chose BFG AT 285s over the ProComp 12.5" because I didn't want to have to go with aftermarket rims and knew I wouldn't have to trim or risk breaking a bead off-roading. They are plenty big for a 2.5" lift, IMO.
The other thing is the PC AT tire weigh 11 lbs. more each, and someone stated that since it is unsprung weight, it is like 7x sprung weight. So that's like carrying around an extra 308 lbs. Or at minimum an extra 44 lbs. on your suspension. And if you have to go aftermarket rims, this will be even higher, unless you spend a lot of cash for light ones.
I also heard they wear out faster, and at the price of this size of tire tread life matters.
I have the BFG A/T on my truck and wont buy another tire. I put these on my truck at 2000 miles after I got it stuck with the factory tires(sucked). My A/T's do better in mud and snow than my buddies Dunlop mud tires and last way longer.

Havent had much snow in Califonia, so they havent been put to the test.....hopefully the snow gods dump a little on us this year to see how they perform. I'll keep you updated!
