: Adding Satellite Radio to the Titan
Knox_Titan 11-12-2005, 12:30 PM Has anyone installed satellite radio to their Titan? I have the 6 disk changer so I know it can be done, but I don't know how hard it is. My local Best Buy will do it for $100 after I get the hardware. I heard the hardware has to come from Nissan. Anyone know anything about this?
a4bry4 11-12-2005, 12:52 PM I paid my local shop $80 and it was done in less than an hour. The instructions out of the service manual have a lot of difficult steps including removing the accelerator pedal which is totally unnecessary. Jerseyparts can hook you up with the receiver and antenna. You will only need to buy the mounting bracket if you have the RF system in your truck. Here are a couple of pics of my XM antenna.
Knox_Titan 11-12-2005, 01:00 PM Thanks! I have left a message for jerseyparts but haven't heard anything back. How much was your kit? If you don't mind me asking.
Rossi 11-12-2005, 01:02 PM That antenna is a little over done....most of the XM antennas are really small compared to that one....sure that's not a Navigation Satalite antenna??????
LinkNuc 11-13-2005, 06:16 PM I installed the OEM Sirius sattelite in about 20 min. Its easy andy don't pay the dealer to do it!
Driving 11-13-2005, 07:07 PM Can you post some pics of your sirius. I want to do it in the next few weeks.

There's nothing to see, its all on the stock unit basically right behind your acclerator is a metal bracket that has an amp if you have the Rockford Fosgate System or nothing if you dont, you put the Sirius box there and connect 1 stereo wire and 1 antenna wire and you're good to go! OH yeah and you have to run the antennaa, I used the stock loation (behind the mirror( and have had zero reception problems...but you can route it outside if you'd like
Driving 11-14-2005, 09:26 PM Sorry if I am being stupid, but how do you access the use of it. I have an 06' LE(w/ Rockford Fosgate), and there is no SAT button on my head unit. Is there one on yours?
Did you by it thru your dealer? And, if so, what did it run you?
Thanks
bubbad3 11-14-2005, 09:44 PM If you are looking for Sirius, they just came out with a portable unit with cradle, to go in the car or home. It has a built in MP3 player, so you can download music into it just like an iPod. It holds 1GB. It's a nice looking finish to it, just like the new Nano's, all shiny black. I don't have a pic, cause it won't ship until 12/1.
Knox_Titan 11-14-2005, 11:01 PM XM makes the same things.
I do not have the RF package but I have the 6 disk changer and have a SAT button on the Right side of the changer. I don't know about the 06 cause I have a 05.

Actually, the XM/Delphi units will only record programming received from XM. It won't record MP3 files from a computer like this one.
But hey, just trying to help man...
LinkNuc 12-28-2005, 01:51 PM You Must have a SAT button or you'll have to go aftermarket for satellite radio
MikeZ 12-28-2005, 05:36 PM You Must have a SAT button or you'll have to go aftermarket for satellite radio
Actually no. If you dont have the Sat button you can still use OEM unit. Instead of sat button, you press the radio button until sat appears. The sat button wont appear until the unit is connected though.

Word! The windshield already comes with a trim that lets you hide the antenna wire, can't be easier than that.

Ok, that's good news for those without it, I was told otherwise, but thenn I guess not every Nissan Dealer knows everything...oh yeah the antenna wire hding was easy too
Knox_Titan 12-29-2005, 08:13 AM I was told the same thing, and in the owners manual it says you have to have the RF system or the 6 disk changer to use your stock unit.
goval 12-29-2005, 08:57 AM Let's put this down.
A sattelite radio needs 3 things to work:
Display unit, tuner, and antenna
A display unit is used instead of the tuner if the factory head unit is not sattelite ready because it already comes with the tuner built in I believe.
If yours say "sat" or "Sirius/XM" ready, then all you need is the tuner and the antenna. The tuner is needed to capture the signals from the sattelite, and it is connected on the factory antenna wire vice direct radio transmiting.
If yours is NOT "sat" or "Sirius/XM" then you have 2 options:
-Buy the complete kit with the tuner, receiver, and antenna; and use the radio signals on you head unit to play sattelite
-Buy a new head unit that is "Sirius/XM" ready and all you need is the tuner and antenna
If yours say "Sirius" ready like mine, then you need to stick with Sirius if you want to use the head unit to search through stations, or you can do like I did and buy a XM kit if you want XM instead and play it through the head unit's radio option (transmitting through a radio station)
Driving 01-02-2006, 05:19 PM Does anyone know what the equipment costs? My wife got me a sirius starmate for X-mas that I havn't installed yet. If I could get the stock stuff and not have an extra display mounted in the truck for reasonable, I would rather do that.

not sure how much the stock equipment is but I also have the Starmate Replay unit. I dont know what else you have installed but I installed on the dash where others have installed xm/sirius units, nav screens, etc and ran the wires into the dash, real clean and i like how it turned out.
Driving 01-02-2006, 11:10 PM I think I saw a pic of that a while ago. I tried to find it in a search earlier, but couldn't find it. I was planning on doing the same thing if I stick with the Starmate. Have you been happy with yours?
Knox_Titan 01-03-2006, 11:56 AM Here is what mine cost to go with the XM... here is the link to the thread also....

Well if you want it to work through the SAT button on your deck, you will have to get
Description Part #
Sat Rad Receiver 999u9-nv003
Antenna 999u9-vr000
IT Bracket 999u9-vq011
This is for the XM system. I do not know if the sirus is different. I just got mine back from the dealer today. Its pretty sweet, but its pretty pricey also.
You may be able to get it cheaper on here, but I tried to get it from some of the sponsors but I didn't get any response from them. It cost 390.46 in parts from my dealer and 150 for the install.
You can get the systems like the pioneer air ware for a lot cheaper, but you have to attach it some where in the truck. I just think it looks better to use the deck.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask...

i have been very pleased with the set up, only thing is that i wish the unit went in and out of the cradle a little easier...otherwise i love it. Good visibility, easy controls, etc...
msp2928 01-05-2006, 10:40 AM Anyone know the price for the SIRIUS parts alone?? I have an 05 with RF and Nav and they told me $661.00 installed! I have a FM transmitter in my other vehicle! I just wanted to keep everything on my NAV screen!
Driving 01-05-2006, 08:45 PM I don't know, but I asked today and my dealer wanted $640 installed. I'll be sticking with the starmate!
Driving 01-08-2006, 05:15 PM Just got my new starmate in yesterday getting ready for Howard Stern tomorrow! I stashed it up in the sunglass holder. Worked out perfectly...no drilling and everything looks stock if you want it to.
It's obviously in the way of the mirror a little bit, but in the mornings I'm sure I will listen to Howard the whole way to work, and there are really only about 10 other stations that I'm going to be flipping thru that are all programmed in, so I'm guessing most of the time it will be up.
Knox_Titan 01-08-2006, 09:30 PM That looks sweet. You can close that compartment still cant you? I think I like that set up the best out of all of them so far.
Driving 01-08-2006, 10:10 PM Yeah, it opens and closes like normal. You would never know it's there when it's closed. So far, I love it.
msp2928 01-09-2006, 05:48 AM Sure wish it was 59 here!!! Really sweet install! I love it!!! Just game me an idea!!!!
BadassTitan 01-11-2006, 08:32 PM i have a sportster replay and i mounted it on the dash tray above the radio. let me see if i can figure out how to post the pic.
MrFisherman 01-17-2006, 05:05 AM Author, how did you install the antenea there?
did you have to remove the windshield?
Does it leak?
Did you have to cut the cable?
Looking forward to doing something similar.
Driving 01-17-2006, 08:40 AM To be honest with you, I had it done at Sound Advice. I really don't mess with my truck like that. I just gave them the idea and they did it. But, from other things I have seen on here, I think there is a groove made for a wire to be run or something. I'm sure someone who knows will chime in.

I paid 289.00 for the Sirius Kit (bracket, antenna, reciever and parts) Easy install, no way worth 400 bucks for 45 min of work!
Knox_Titan 01-17-2006, 11:27 AM Just a note.... the Sirus equipment/install is different from the XM equipment/install.
Driving 01-17-2006, 12:51 PM Total with install I paid around $250.
New_Guy 01-17-2006, 10:28 PM So with my '05 fosgate system, there is a tuner I can buy and use the existing factory radio (steering wheel controls) to control the sirius radio?
Knox_Titan 01-18-2006, 08:02 AM So with my '05 fosgate system, there is a tuner I can buy and use the existing factory radio (steering wheel controls) to control the sirius radio?
Yes! It uses the SAT button on your radio. I had the XM installed and had to go through the dealer to get the equipment, because there wasn't any after market stuff out that would hook up to the factory radio. I am not sure about the Sirius.
You could check with Jerseyparts and see what he can do for you. I am not sure if he is at work this week due to a death in his family, but you could try him.
TitanCrew 01-18-2006, 12:07 PM I have the same antenna mounted on the windwhield by the dealership and mine faces the other way. which one is right?

I strongly advise you NOT to install the factory Sat. system to your Navigstion system. I did and wish I had not. The song title and artist does not stay on the screen, only the station is shown all the time. If you wanna see the title of the song or artist, you will have to press the tuner button to find out. The only good thing about it is you can change stations on the steering wheel. I now wish I put in the Starmate (Sirius) after market unit. I have a second car and won't make the same mistake twice.
Good Luck.
Driving 01-24-2006, 07:57 AM I really couldn't be happier with the Starmate...especially for the price. It comes with a remote, so not being able to use the steering wheel isn't that big a deal.
instingkt 01-24-2006, 12:06 PM I have the SAT button on my unit. So, all I have to get is the antenna? Also, how much does it cost for the service?
Driving 01-24-2006, 09:20 PM It comes out to around 12 bucks a month or something. I bought the service for a year, and you have to pay a one time activation fee. I think total it came to around $170. It's totally worth it though. I honestly have not had my regular radio on since I got it. It's worth it for Stern and the comedy channel alone.
jamesmilam 01-25-2006, 06:11 AM Hey with your starmate did you just plug it into the Aux port? Just wondering how that looks!
Driving 01-25-2006, 08:17 AM No, I used an FM direct adapter. It sounds great. I have my IPod plugged in most of the time, and didn't want to be swapping wires all of the time, and have extra wires hanging out everywhere. But, to be honest, ever since I got the Sirius I don't really listen to my IPod anymore.
