: Alarm System?
TitanLimey 01-23-2005, 04:29 AM I went to my local "Best Buy" today to find out about getting an alarm installed on my Titan professionally at their installation shop.
The girl at the counter said that they do not have a product suitible for a Titan, even if they did, she told me that Best Buy has yet to train its installation people how to install stuff on Titans.
Anybody out there have any ideas?, have any of you had this problem?
Cheers in advance ... TitanLimey :o
04crew 01-23-2005, 04:49 AM Ok, First of all I am not responding to this to bash a certain retailer, however, the Best Buy by me is full of installers that I personally fired. I am a Sales and Installation Manager at Circuit City. I am not going to tell you to go to Circuit, but what I am suggesting is that you stay away from any place that gives you that kind of answer. New cars come out every year, and we all have sources for the technical information, wheather it be through the alarm companies themselves, or friends/connections at dealers. Just find someone that can confidently quote you on price and doesn't give you the " we are out of the parts for that car" run-around. However, there is nothing tricky in a Titan, so there should be no issues.
I know quite a few people who get security systems and back up sensors and remote starters done at Circuit City. I have been in there a couple of times for advice and the install guys are always great. I took my Titan there a few weeks after I got it and they had never even seen one yet. They all loved it and were really impressed. The main installer said they would put whatever stereo in it I wanted even if they couldnt find a dash kit they would make one for it. They seemed to really have it together there. I have had work done at Best Buy also but I do find they are a little less knowledgable there it seems.

Car-toys is a franchise place. They tried to tell me $500 to mount my own monitor. Went to a custom shop they did it for $125 :?
Caltitan 01-23-2005, 05:32 PM One idea is to try to find out who the local Nissan dealers use for alarm upgrades if they don't do the work themselves. Here in So Cal there are a lot of independent alarm installers and some have contracts with dealerships to do their install work. You can probably get a cheaper price directly from them for the same alarm upgrade the dealer offers. I did this for the alarm in our Mazda minivan, dealer charged $425, I had the same unit installed with their contractor for $275.
Way back in 96 I was working for a custom shop and helping IASCA define rules for competitions, and I must say I was impressed with almost every circuit city I judged at. Some of my best IASCA co-judge friends were CC employees. I hope they are still as good.
Best buy, well, cant say much. I go in occasionally, but never buy much, and wouldnt have them do an install.
CarToys seems on par with CC here in Plano. Just have to get past the pushy salesmen.
Wish I could give you a recc from personal installation experience, but I still have to do all my own installs. :) Its fun when it's not your only job!
Speaking of... I'm gonna install a dei remote start on my new XE in a few days... anything tricky on the 05's? Dual starter wires, throwing the tranny into limp-in if you skip something, etc? How about good secured mounting locations..(high in dash middle?)
I havent grabbed the manual from techinfo yet...

PS - dealerships used to be cutthroat, and would try to sell a $45 3-wire install for $200. The only people that could compete were hack artists at best. Hope that's changed, otherwise, the guy doing dealer installs is not necessarily a good choice.
xetitan 02-18-2005, 11:58 PM My brother inlaw and I installed a Viper 550 in my XE with no major problems. I have a CC so we had to diode all of the lock wires for the remote keyless. You have to tap the lock and unlock behind the door panel, witch kinda sucks, but no big deal. I tucked everything up under the driver dash. Not to concerned about accesability because if someone wants it bad enough, they can have it.
I think I'll be OK (using the same alarm actually). Since its an XE, i dont have to worry about immobilizers or power locks yet (will add on later).
Got the service man today. It's an impressive vehicle. Wish I had $$ and time to hack the CAN(LAN) system it uses, that could be fun!
