im gettin a pioneer dvd/nav this week and trying to find a good shop that will install. I know of a few but i dont trust them. please let me know if you guys know of a good shop. I already get the parts from a supply house but i dont want to install it myself. I know some shops wont install products that are not bought from them.

Just an idea but if you can't come up with a shop you trust for custom stuff try Circuit City.At least they are big enough and carry insurance and whatnot that if they screw your install up they can cover damages.(not that you want that to happen)If you do go there ask for the manager in the car audio section and find out how long he and his installers have been working there. If you express your concern before hand and do it politely I am sure they will pay a little more attention during install.Like I said it's just an option for you.My local CCity will install customers products so that shouldn't be a problem.

That unit has to be bypassed in order for the nav to work while in motion. Circuit city will not do that, unless the guy does it on the side, but it is a liability issue and illegal. It should run around 100-150 for labor, normal rate and needs either 2 switches or unit has to be soldered inside. find an authorized pioneer shop to put it in, that is not a terribley hard install, but can be time consuming.

Circuit City sells that unit. They will install it.They are also an authorized Pioneer dealer.Best Buy can do it for you as well, and they are authorized by Pioneer too.I just prefer CCity.

yeah, they do a standard install, and that unit shuts off after a caertain speed, 5-10mph. that is why it has to be bypassed.

Um.Please clarify that for me TJ.What you are saying is this unit which is a navigation unit will only perform at a dead stop or a roll of less then 10mph?Unless of course you hot wire it and install it illegally?Does it have a speed sensor and when it reaches a certain mph the unit just shuts off?How exactly does that work?Excuse the questions since I am not expert on the thing but I have never heard of a navigation unit that only works at 10 mph or less.I might have to do a little research on these things before I buy one if that is the case.I thought it was only illegal to do with a DVD player, but navigation systems were exempt as far as being functional in motion.

Absolute BS whoever told you that. The only thing illegal about in-dash units are the DVD player part of it. Dvd's are supposed to be mounted behind the front seats if you want to play a movie while the vehicle is moving. GPS and navigation systems are designed to give you directions when the vehicle is in motion. Thats why they come stock on so many cars and trucks now.

the navigation part works all the time its the dvd part that doesnt work when your driving execpt for the monitors in the back or whatever monitor you have hooked up beside the main one in the dash. only certain people know how to make the DVD work while driving. most places wont do that because its illegal.

the n2 and most others even factory, has to be stopped or under spped in order to operate it. You have to program it and stuff before you go, if car is in motion, you can not change it or input while car is in motion. and also the n2, you have to put the disc in , program it then if you want cd, take disc out. once you get to your destination, you have to put your disc back in if you want to go somewhere else.

Wouldn't you WANT to program it BEFORE you start driving? And the deck will hold at least 30 square miles of maps, so you only need to reprogram if it's outside of that area.

the only way to bypass that pioneer unit it to turn it over, (there is a small silver sticker) remove it, and youll see two leads inside it, they need to be connected with solder, or a small wire

MOST shops wont do this!!

as far as good sacramento shops ( I do all my installs) but if I was to ever use a shop id use this one

is a VERY high end shop, so they ARE NOT CHEAP, but there young installers are awesome. The owne is not so friendly(putting it lightly lol)

--but you wont deal with him anyway as he mainly works on the higher end porsche installs, the young guys do most of the other cars

not sure they will install a unit not bought at there store, but im sure you could get one of the installers to install it on there off time outside the shop

and in all honesty, get a few stereo nissan 95 and up stereo harness, and a scoshe reverse wiring harness, a nissan stero manual for wire colors, read the direction for thepioneer, nad you can do it yourself

the only hard part is the brake wiring, but even that im sure you can get around that

pm me if you need more intricate directions

or do as the other gus said circuit city

MAKE SURE IT WORKS before you take it anwhere to install though, so they cant say it was broken before they installed it

Another good Sac shop is Paradyme on Fulton near Arden. They've done a couple of high-end installs for me. Their work is top-notch, although a bit more $ (as you would expect) than some of the other chop shops like CC, Best Buy, Fry's, etc.

I was just curious, did you get your rebate yet, the place you said you got it from does not show up as an authorized pioneer dealer. maybe they are new, but i would double check with pioneer, if they are not, you will not see that rebate. Just a thought.

the reason there no on the pioneer website is because they are a wholesale dealer to all the local shops around town. Pioneer never list wholesale distributors on there website. its 1275 then i get 300 back from pioneer guys. if you own a shop or do other things in stereo business then you can go though sierra select otherwise you wont get that good of a deal anywhere in town unless you know a owner of a shop who can hook you up.
