High DEF use

18 platinum reserve cc diesel. 5000 miles. Is it just me or does this thing suck DEF like a vampire at midnight on NYE? Just finished an 1800 mile trip towing a 28' enclosed car hauler with a 2500 lb load. Average less than 10 mpg but it also used over 5 gallons of DEF. I used to think my Ford F350 6.7 had a thirst for DEF, but this seems excessive.
Anyone else have this issue? Something for a dealer to take a look at?

bump note:

Update.

3900 round trip total miles. Nashville TN to Los Angeles and back. 28' enclosed trailer. 4300 pounds loaded going out. 4500 pounds loaded coming back. 10 gallons of DEF used. Tried running with the Tow/Haul switched on for 500 miles, just to see if it would change anything. It did. The gas mileage REALLY sucked in tow/haul (7.8 mpg) and was just plain lousy in O/D (8.5-9.1 mpg).
Had the 5000 mile service done at Nissan dealer in Las Vegas and made sure to have them update the ECU to latest version, but still what i think is excessive regens and DEF usage.
Anyone else getting lousy DEF range?
