I recently purchased a 2007 Titan 4x4 with 130k miles on it. The previous owner unfortunately put a body lift and 33" wheels and tires on it. I reverted it back to stock wheels and tires.
The truck started making a horrible noise at like 20 MPH and up. I took it to my regular mechanic and said it needs a transfer case.
He suggested a new from Nissan one for MSRP of 3100 but looks like sells for about 2,700 on some other online sellers.
A used one is like $ 300.
He wants $ 700 labor to swap it out.
My question is: Are these 2007 titan transfer cases a common failure item? Or maybe did the huge wheels and tires tear it up? Would you guys chance a used one?
