Exhaust for my Titan

6151 Views 22 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  baja220
Hi yall,
I'm new here!! Just bought a Titan last Fri and I need info for exhaust. What do yall recommend?
Also, I've read 5 pages of oil change threads. I knew what I was gonna do, but now I don't. I was gonna change the factory oil at 1000 (only 300 now) and replace it with AMSoil. Bad idea?
Anyone know if or when white gage faces may be available for the Titan?

Hi there Baja220 welcome aboard. Good choice in trucks by the way. Is it your first truck?
As far as exhausts go it boils down to your personal tastes. Do you like a subtle quiet exhaust or do you like a loud race car type exhaust, or even somewhere in the middle. Also are you looking to keep your low end tq and hp if so stock or tuned cat back from one of the major exhaust makers like Gibson, or Banks. Flowmaster is coming out with a cat back for the Titan in just a few weeks.
You can go the way of custom exhaust also like I did. I had a custom Flowmaster 50 series Dual in Dual out installed. I absolutely love the sound of my exhaust. Only downside was I lost some low end tq and hp. I did pick up some top end though. I was able to regain some of what I lost by installing a Volant Cold air intake. It increased my throttle response at take off and at cruising speed. Let us know what kind of exhaust sound you like, soft medium or loud. We can help you choose. There are also several sound clips on this board of different exhausts. You should listen to them and tell us what sounds good to you. Here are a few of them.
This first link is to RockyMtnTitan's new Aero-Turbine muff & reso sound clips.

If you search the forums you should be able to find some more. Let us know what you like.

Thanks for the welcome!! And the quick reply :D This is not my
first truck. My first truck not made by Ford tho. And I think I made a very good choice. I was just about to buy a new Lariat to replace my 97 XLT, then a stopped in a Nissan dealership, Signed the papers the next day, picked it up the next. They had to go out of town to get the one I wanted.
I love my Titan. Funny, I called my XLT "my truck", but I call my Titan "MY TITAN" I need to know how to post pics!!!!!
Anyway, I want duals out the back and I want a nice, throaty rumble. I want the sound to match the power. I quess that would be med loud.
I don't wanna loose low end tq or hp. I have a boat I drag around all summer. Does that give you an idea of what I want?
Something's wrong with the sound on my computer, so I can't here them.
Most of the Cat back systems are pretty loud. You may want to go with a custom exhaust with something like the Flowmaster 70 series muffler. Its softer sounding than mine. Mine can get pretty loud. Depending on if you want dual out or not you need to consider having the exhaust exit the sides instead of straight out the back since you will be pulling a boat. I had my custom Flowmaster 50 series dual in dual out parts and installed for $350. Wait till you get some other opinions and weigh out your options. Let us know what you decide.

Welcome baja. Glad to have a former Ford owner here. I have had several Fords myself (still have a 78 F250 Custom) and I did the same thing. My other trucks were just that. Trucks! My titan is just that. MY TITAN!!!

As for the oil situation, I am now running Mobil 1 0W30. I am sending oil samples to Blackstone Labs for analysis. I know several people who use AMSoil and love it. Might want to talk to JetTech. He is an authority on the oil change around here.

I use Mobil products because I have used Mobil in just about every car/truck I have ever had and I like it. This is my 1st time with a synthetic oil so I decided to stick with Mobil.

Good luck.

Welcome aboard, baja220! You can also post pics in the gallery.
I'm holding out for the Flowmaster kit when it comes out around Christmas (provided it is priced within my budget). I will likely go with the single out 70 series. I could go custom right now but some guys who went that route have complained of irritating drone in the cab when cruising at certain speeds. Flowmaster's kit is supposed to be drone-less.
M4ck~~~You got the 50 series kit and had it installed for 350.00!!???? I can swing that. Flowmaster has a 40, 50, and 70 series with 40 being the loudest? If that is right, the 50 may be what I want. I had another reply from Caltitan, said Flowmaster wasn't coming out till Christmas. How did you get yours already?
Do you have yours coming out the back or the sides?
Do you have a pic of it? Need to figure out what's wrong with my sound so I can here them
I'll try to post a pic tomorrow. What about how to get one under my name on the left of the post.
Does anyone know anything about different gauge faces?
Thanks everyone!!

Well, his was a CUSTOM job, not a cat-back TUNED setup. He does have the 50 series. I believe his exits out the sides. There's couple of pictures of his truck in the gallery section (button's uptop)

That's called your AVATAR. You'll have to go into your "Profile" (button upper right of screen) in order to change it.

Not sure what you're talking about here????

He is talking about the instrument cluster in the Titan. They make some really cool aftermarket replacements. They look really cool. Some even glow in dark.

Here are some pics of the custom exhaust I had installed. Like firecracker said I didn't have the Cat Back installed. I had it done at a Muffler shop from scratch.

Hey, that looks good!! The tips angle down a little bit too. Looks like that would make it a little louder.
Yes, the instrument cluster. But can't you just get the face replacement cover to change the color? White looks really cool. Gives it a sporty look.
By the way, he is a she. My name is Debbie.

Ahh very very sorry Debbie. We don't get too many women around these parts. My wife stops in now and again but not too much. I'm sure in a few more months we will start seeing more aftermarket products for the Titan. Its still soo new right now that there isnt a whole lot out there yet. Companies are working on designing products right now. Hopefully this next year will bring a slew of products for us to customize our trucks. Can't wait to see what the new year will bring. Here is a good place to keep an eye out for http://www.godfathercustoms.com/index.cgi I'm sure when things come out these guys will have it.

If you go for a custom install, don't use just any shop. Try to find a few with a good reputation for their work and get written quotes for the system you want (muffler type, dual/single exhaust, pipe diameters, stainless steel or aluminum). They should be able to do solid welds and have the ability to do mandrel bends on the pipes, as well as warranty their work. Ask to see some of their installs going on in their shop when you stop for a quote.

That's VERY good advice!!!!!!!!!!

Get something in writing!
m4ck~~~Finally got to hear your exhaust you posted for me~~~Did it at work~~~Don't tell anyone
Yours sounds great. Thanks
Now to see what the muffler shops say. We'll let ya know.
Hi Deb, I've had a custom setup and now an aftermarket setup. If you want to save your factory system your best bet is to buy an aftermarket setup. Besides that they're hard to beat on price as well, all mandrel bent tubes with most being easy to install. Make sure to take a look at both before you decide. OH YEAH........and WELCOME to ClubTitan!!! :)
Has anyone checked out Gale Banks exhaust system for the Titan?http://www.bankspower.com/app.cfm?appid=AN01

Can't say that anyone on this board has had it. Others have said it's LOUD and because it was 3", they lost some lowend torque. Other than that, I'm probably not much help to ya.

I found that out after lookin on the other forum. Yesterday I went to a couple of shops and talked to a coupld of friends and always get different opinions. I think the shops just wanna give me whatever they have in stock~~~one wants to put on FM 40 series~~~"It's not that loud" I won't be goin there.
So what about true duels? Leave the OEM on and add the FM to the other side and connect them with a X or H pipe. Any one checked that out?
Ok~~~Bashes welcome!!!!! It was givin me an error, so I didn't think the reply was going thu :?:
