I am looking to change out my shocks to bilstein 5100. Currently I am riding stock, but the ranchos are starting to go. I would like to go with the bilsteins to give it a more leveled look.
The rears are certainly easy enough, but how do I go about changing the fronts. Do I need a tool to compress the springs? Can I leave the springs on and somehow slip out the shocks and fit in the longer bilsteins?
Any help would be appreciated.

You have to remove the shock/spring assembly, then use spring compressors to remove and reinstall the springs.

thanks for the info
so with the compressors (possibly rent from autozone) is the job fairly straightforward?

Yes, but you will need good heavy duty compressors; the springs are very stiff.

Great choice on the 5100's! Best money I've put into the T (besides the plow) so far. You will notice an incredible change in the ride and handling. I agree with scr38, with a good quality set of spring compressors the job is easy.
