Have been reading some about the Gibson Dual Sport Exhaust Kit.
Comes with big pipes. Has anyone out there any info on performance gains vs cost? Just curious-- :)

Love it, Love it, Love it! :D I do not have any proven data but the seat of the pants dyno says big gains! My gas mileage has also increased about 2mpg but I think some of that is due to the fact that I lost some mileage when I had my flowmaster installed. I paid $436 shipped and I think it was worth every penny.

Did you install this system or pay to have it installed?

Speaking of those tools...were any of them pneumatic, or did simple hand tools work okay?

I do have air tools, but I didn't use them with the install. All you will need is a good set of mechanics tools in the correct sizes. That means no vise grips! :D

Oh come on....all you need is a hammer and vise grips and you are good to go!!! 8)

Then after you screw it up you can come over and I have what you need to fix it!! If I don't....I'm a sucker for tools...I'll buy it! Can't tell you how many things I have that I only used once.

Hey, you must've had the same shop teacher I did! But really, if you use the right tools (definitely not a vice-grip), it's an easy install. Mine came out with one pipe a bit lower than the other (it appeared to be by design but I didn't remember the pics I saw looking like that) but I used 2 2x2's inserted into the ends to adjust them without kinking them. Maybe tomorrow I'll figure out how to post some pics (actually today- it's 3AM).

Great thread...and my first post!!! w00t!

I'm also considering the Gibson exhaust, however I'm not certain which application I should purchase - Extreme Duals, Swept Side, or Dual Sport. I'm concerned about the extreme duals, because its mentions that it won't fit with a trailer hitch....however I like the look. Any performance differences between the dual and single outlet?

And I LOVE MY TRUCK!! I'm just happy to find a forum with fellow Titan owners.

I've got the Gibson extreme duals along with the factory class IV hitch. I don't know why it mentions it won't fit because it fits perfectly...

I'm not sure if there is a performance difference or not but based on other peoples dyno's the Titan seems to like the single exhausts best.

It seems to me the reason extreme dual is not recommended for towing due to the fact that the item you are towing can trap exhaust which could then find it's way into your vehicle. I don't know for sure, but I think I read that somewhere. If you plan to tow, your exhaust should exit out the side - at least that's what I remember reading.

I've read the same thing raw but only on exhaust that exit straight back from under the bumper. The side exit exhaust like the dual extremes should work fine.

I don't know for a fact, but it seems I remember reading that out the rear eliminates your spare tire also?

I have the Gibson 3" single and am VERY happy with it.

When they first started making them there was some clearance issues with the spare. That has since been resolved. :) All of the Gibson's are combatable with the spare and the trailer hitch. The reason the straight out the back dual is not recommended for towing is cuz it can cause turbulance with the exhaust fumes when towing and send some fumes back towards the cab. It's not really a big deal, alot of people do it anyway with no problems. You just have to keep your rear window closed.

Hey BiXLL...do you, by chance, have any sound clips for the single? I'm afraid that if I buy the extreme duals, some bending will be required and I don't know any "specialists" in the area for installing cat-back systems. I was thinking the neighborhood Midas would work good (?).

There is no additional bending needed with the Gibson kit's. There are a direct bolt on and should be able to be installed in your own driveway with basic mechanics tools in under 2 hours. You don't even have to jack up the truck. :D
