How To - Reset Your Airbag Light

If you have the airbag light, it will show steady for a few seconds (the manual says 7 secs) after you turn the key from off to on (but not start) and then start to flash. Here is how to reset it:

1. Turn the key from off to on.

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

OK,
I did this procedure and it seems to have worked. The light does not blink any longer. I am wondering what would cause this to happen? Is there anything else associated with this initial indication that there is something wrong?

In any event, this worked....thanks a million QWIKWHIP, you da man. And thanks to the rest of you who responded....those were very quick responses.
Being that there are so many computer things going on in these trucks it could be anything. If it comes back on, then I would say somethings up, if it stays off than it was probley just some fluke. And as for the credit, I can't take full credit as this was posted by someone else on another forum. I just grabbed it to use here in a nice central location. :)
The main reason most people are getting this is after some kind of stereo instalattion or where the face plate of the stereo came off. While the stereo is unplugged or face plate is off and ignition is turn to on you will get the airbag light blinking. I'm sure other things will cause it too but main reason involed the stereo.
I believe it's as stated above if you have the passenger airbag light under the stereo unhooked and turn on the key the "brain" doesn't receive a signal from the indicator and puts up the warning light. It doesn't reset itself and stays in memory until you clear the code.
This sure as hell worke for me Thanx....[/quote]
Just want to say thanks. My Stealer wanted to charge me $48 dollars to do this. I think it took the service writer longer to tell my wife how good of a job I did on the GPS installation which caused the whole issue then it would have for him to just reset it.
Thanks a lot! My dealer was going to clear it for free but I was going to have to leave work and go across town (only about 10 miles but lots of lights). This took me less than a minute and worked the first time!
So I just bought an 06'Crew 4x4 Off-road and the truck has about 400 miles on it and the air bag light started flashing.

Do I perform the "do it yourself" fix or should I have the dealer check everything out?

I have not do anything to the truck besides drive it and tint the two front windows.

Thanks!
G
I would have the dealer check it out since you haven't done anything that would cause the light to flash.
Thanks!

That's what I was thinking. Even though saving a trip to the dealer is tempting.

Hopefully it's minor and not a sign of things to come. I was really hoping Nissan finally had things figured out with these trucks.

Love the truck and hope to enjoy it for a long time.

See ya!
Well OOokkk

Just wanted to also thank the geniuses that figured out how to do this. You guys are great! thanks again!
thank you the light was driving me crazy.
Yea the headrests dvds got the best of me. Thanx, now I don't have do deal with my service dept. Did I just say that?LOL
Dude You Freakin Rock!! I've been watchin that damn thing blink for six months now. I read this and ran out to my truck in my boxers! worked first time. Your the man bro. Thanks
fudge i paid the stealership 45 to reset it. some bs about how it only takes 5 minutes but they had to charge me for a full 30 minutes of work because that was the least amount. i feel stoopid now.

Good thing you at least had boxer on when you read it.:D
Mine went on the last time I went out offroading. Since then, my audio controls and cruise control have not worked and this resest doesnt fix the light. bummer.
