The rear diff takes 68 ozs. per the manual (that's a little over 2 quarts) but some have reported being able to get a little bit more in than that.
The M1 75W-90 is a perfect choice and the smell is typical gear oil. Nasty isn't it?? That's why after I change it I get the old stuff out of my garage ASAP because it will stink up a garage big time....
If you have a 4x4 make sure to check/change the front diff. too
