Most mud terrain tires use a softer rubber compound to help improve off road traction. MT tires are build for off road use and really can't be relied on to last long. There are some MT tires that last longer than others but no MT tire has a mileage warranty. If you are concerned about life I'd recommend sticking with an AT. There are a few AT's with mileage warranties and for the average driver most of them are more than enough for the limited off-road driving they do.
